  1. Could you add more details on how the bipod is mounted? Did you just go thru the cooling holes on the handguard? My PSL as well as others I've seen really likes the Czech light ball. The 7N1 was designed for the SVD and is a little heavy as the PSL's seem to like 150 gr. and below bullets. Plus the light ball is easier to find, cheaper, and has less recoil. I was also impressed with the factory trigger, and a little time spent polishing and some FP-10 make a noticeable difference.
  2. After shooting my PSL, I just wish the Saiga BHO worked automatically... sure is a nice thing to have. I left mine out and think I will one day get around to reinstalling. Bolt is pretty snug on those FBMG 20 rd mags.
  3. I used the Red Star Arms VEPR FCG and it is very nice, and adjustable.
  4. If I slow down and relax some, it pretty much makes a ragged 2" hole with 8-10 rds. The PSL surprised me with the factory trigger and all. Note that the sight in holes are pretty much double taps.. kinda all over figuring out the PSOP scopes... duh!
  5. I've seen a couple of these stocks that had the bottom cut off completely, similar to an RPD style. They seem to hold up fine. My main thing is to try and finish off the part of the slot that is showing after I cut the receiver back. I guess I could cut a sliver of wood and glue it into the slot, do my reshaping and just recut the slot at the end. May add a screw down from the receiver to help hold the PG up... hmmm
  6. I have to say a 21" is every bit as accurate as a non-tweaked M1A. Here are a couple rapid fire targets at 100 yds. from my PSL and Saiganov... shooting Czech light ball out of the PSL (those are sighting in groups) and South African surplus out of the Saiga. Only gripe I have on both is they tend to vertical string in rapid fire as the barrel heats up. Saiga off a bipod, PSL off a bag. PSL has a 4X scope, Saiga has a 6X...
  7. OK, so I want to cut and change the angle on the PG part of my drag stock, to more closely resemble the PSL. I plan to cut the radius on the rear of the Saiga receiver, then file/sand the stock. question: what is a real good wood glue I can mix sawdust with to fill the receiver cut? Once the receiver is trimmed part of the slot in the stock will be exposed. Plus when I get the angle and narrow the PG part, I will probably be getting in the slot and am worried about the stock splitting. They are cheap enough I may pick one up for a guinea pig. I have been hunting around for an origi
  8. I am actually thinking that I need to study my magwell in the G3 and CETME, and see if I can maybe weld something up. Never know!
  9. I experimented last year with a cheap Taiwanese mag and welded bar stock for the tabs. It still has some issues I need to fix and massage, but I don't see any reason it won't work. Pics and info are here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=14499 But I can see where it will be a one at a time, fit to rifle thing, so trying to mass produce them would be a challenge. Myself, I would still like to see BattlerifleG3 produce his G3 mag adapter. That would solve all my worries and use cheap, barely modified G3 mags.
  10. I am very fond of my Saiga's.. luckily they don't have a jealous bone in their sexy slim bodies. They never look down on me if one of the AK gal's catches my eye with a glint off their lightly stained buttstocks.. or their cousin SKS family wants to unfold a bayonet or two, just to play mean. Or maybe that lady in black the G3 whispers in my ear "take me, I'm all yours.. get me hot" Or even when one of the old mil-surp Mosin gals shake their roughed up tail feathers and want to get a little rough.. Ahhh, so many choices, so little time...
  11. Would really like to see this come about. Still waiting for the day you decide to make a run of these so I can get one.
  12. Just to go back to your list of MBR; my 16" Saiga shoots every bit as good as my CETME's, G3, M14.. don't have a FAL to compare. My 21" Saiganov with scope does just that little bit better than the others, but they have open sights so how do you compare? Once you get out to 200 yds you are dealing with a lot of other variables beside the rifle. And to the mention of bedding a K31.. everyone I have seen or shot does a lot better when the barrel is free floated; my K1911 tightened up considerably when I relieved the stock off the barrel.
  13. I can absolutely verify the gas tube is the same; I have a Romy tube on my 308 Saiganov I don't have an Ultimak on there, and the only interference I can see would be the barrel diameter, but I don't know that the 308 OD is that much larger.
  14. From most reports the PSL is not that much more accurate. My 308 must be an abberation because my worst group with milsurp at 100 yds is not much bigger than 2". Most are one ragged 1 to 1.5" hole with 8 shots. If I rush and get the barrel warmed up, it will shoot a vertical string, with most if not all holes touching. And my cold barrel shots are pretty much POA. At least within my skill level. Now it would not shoot that well stock, the factory trigger sucks for me. But with the RSA it is a completely different rifle. The PSL versions are not sniper rifles. They are designated ma
  15. The 1968 NFA act was concerning full auto and SBR rifles.. 922r came quite a bit later.
  16. At the rear, the cover should sit down in a small notch in the rear stock tang. Is your recoil spring button all the way out in the square hole at the back? At the front, by the sight block, is it seated in the groove? If so, try pushing the cover back and see if you can lift it out of the groove. If you can, it is a little short and has just enough play to pop out. Easiest way to fix is use a pair of pliers on the rear of the cover, and carefully bend it back at the bottom, until all the front and rear play is removed.
  17. I'm in the wait and see mode. Wasn't a similar deal on Gunbroker last year, and everyone lost their money that sent any? I would send him a query on COD's because just about any legit business will do those. Show me something, and a review, then I'll open the checkbook. Maybe. At this point I would rather have one of BRG3's G3 mag adapters for mine, because I already have plenty of alum. G3 mags.
  18. Say what you will about bump firing, but in this case I would blame the ammo. Indian has been proven over and over to be iffy at best. I myself would not use it in anything I own, even as a last resort. And just about all the rifles we as a group play with, be it an AK, CETME, AR.. were all designed to be FA from the get go. So bumping them for fun is not that big of deal.
  19. How cheap is cheap? You can get a Kobra with mount for under $200, and they hold up to anything you'll put it thru. I picked up an Aimpoint clone, but the jury is still out as to how it holds up with the 308 recoil. I have it on my G3, so it won't get beat as bad as a lot of 308's would.
  20. My HK sight seems to be holding zero just fine so far, thru about a dozen on/offs... I did make sure and pinch the sides and rear of the DC to get it as tight as possible, and I have a piece of sheet metal welded to the top, that goes forward into the old sight base and keeps the front from moving side to side. I did that more for something to anchor the rail I have on it, but wouldn't hurt with just the open sights.
  21. I'll have to take mine apart and look at it, but I had zero issues with dropping it in and running fine. No grinding of any part.
  22. My S308 with HK sight on the DC has maintained zero so far, within the accuracy that I can shoot at 50-100 yds. I have had it off and on at least a dozen times. I did make sure that is was as tight as I could make it to start, by pinching in the sides and rear to remove all the slop. It is very snug to remove and reinstall.
  23. The biggest one that they keep coming back to is the large capacity military mag. Anything over 8-10 rds is considered large capacity, i.e. non-sporting. And like was stated above, there is no set list, other than what they reply in all the various letters they have sent out over the years. And that changes day to day, and depending on who you talk to. Best rule of thumb is if you change it from the condition it was imported, you have removed it from it's intended purpose. Common sense here. If the regular AK with its 30 rd mag, pistol grip and folding stock is banned from import,
  24. Not so much the loads as the mil-spec brass. The thinner commercial brass tends to swell and flow into the flutes which sticks the case in the chamber and rips the base off. On that note the Saiga will eat pretty much anything.
