  1. That's sick paul! How'd you manage the front sight gas block on the S308? That's my favorite so far! Very nice! thanks, i welded it myself, full write up here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/67879-my-308-build-low-tech-highly-functional/
  2. i threaded mine 5/8-24 with a TAT, there are instructions on how to determine if your barrel is OK to thread either to 5/8-24 or 17x1. also, you may already know the answer, but isn't it possible to rethread a 5/8-24 brake to 17x1, would open up more choices for you ltdan
  3. I moved my factory front sight base back to the gas block (cut and welded) and threaded the barrel with a yankee hill phantom C2 flash hider/brake combo. I prefer a peep, so i also put a tech sight in the rear to replace the middle leaf sight full details here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/67879-my-308-build-low-tech-highly-functional/
  4. 1/4" riser, but i really think i'm gonna order 1/2" one soon, just my personal preference. stock is good, relatively inexpensive and sturdy.
  5. just wanted to add mine to the mix here, just got my csspecs steel mags today too!
  6. last time i was at the range, the guy next to me had a "muffled" AR10 (308) and we both agreed, hearing protection was still required for the shooter, it was still loud. the shootee on the other hand, well....
  7. tech sights +1 if you prefer iron sights or at all familiar with AR/M16 style irons go with tech sights. i did on my 16 saiga, and it was a night and day difference. of course, having 8 years of familiarity with M16 sights also influenced my increased accuracy.
  8. kickassseabass!!! taking preorders for the saiga 308 version??
  9. i got to this point in a roundabout way, at first i had removed the FSB and threaded the barrel and remounted it further rearward like most people do and only later decided this is the way i really wanted it. SO if i could do it all over again, i would have cut the lower tubular portion of the FSB in two at the forward-most mount pin (leaving the entire round portion under the front sight pin with material to cut away from when reattaching it on the gas block) , and reused the rearward portion (with pin hole still intact, probably flipped around) as the C2 backstop at the original rearward bar
  10. My CAA tube is straight off the back, no angle. you can see for yourself here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/67879-my-308-build-low-tech-highly-functional/ for look's sake I would suggest some other type of fore-end if you truly do go with the CAA/magpul stock/18" barrel, maybe the CSS aluminum one? http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-1046/CSS-Saiga-Rifle-Forearm/Detail?sfs=7de1f961 I suggest this because of two reasons, 1st) i think the 'traditional' AK fore-ends look best with AK stocks, and that's a nice looking complete set you have there, and 2nd) be
  11. not sure what platform you are talking about? the sight just replaces the dust cover "button", meaning also: the part that dovetails into the rear trunion and guides the spring. and, no cycling issues, don't see how it could cause any it's just a beefed up dust cover "button", everything works exactly the same as before, just the dust cover is different. the dust cover itself is a little more of a pain to remove now, but it's really not that hard to do once you have it in your hands and see how it works. it's still very field serviceable. besides, all the other options also incre
  12. i don't currently have a press, but when i did mine i had success heating it up with a mapp torch, and the heat also helps when you're trying to line up the pin hole. my full write up here: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/67879-my-308-build-low-tech-highly-functional/
  13. I personally can't say enough good things about the tech-sight, worth every penny to me (and alot of pennies it is compared to the competition) since I too had years of extensive training with M16A2/M4. So, with the standard saiga/ak leaf, i was shooting it about the same as my 30-30 w/ leaf (inconsistent 3-5" 3-shot groups @100yds), I tried to the mojo, even used the smaller apertures and I was significantly worse (all over the place) then I bought a tech sight, and can do consistent 1-3" 3 shot groups @100yds, and can hit a 12X12 paper @ 200yds... full write up here: http://forum.saiga
