Well, we disagree here. I don't decide on which fights I take up based on ability to win, I decide what I believe is right and act accordingly. Or, at least I try to. If I lose, I lose. Won't be the first time, and won't be the last time. And I find it extraordinarily unlikely that shots will get fired over this so I doubt anyone's life is on the line. At this point, there are more free states than non-free so resorting to violence doesn't make much sense to me. That said, I can say with honesty that I value a good death over a long life. I've stared down the business end of a gun and found th

Yeah, I know, and I've said similar things myself. But it is also reality that despite how much something bothers you, you can't always just pick up and move. I've given the "hey just move if it comes down to it" speech myself at times in the past to fellow NYers at rallies over the last year, and I've had my view turned around by folks in circumstances that I had never considered that are very far removed from my own. Consider, for a moment, a fellow that I met that has both the means, money and DESIRE to get the hell out of NY, and has wanted to even before the SAFE act was passed (tired

Right on. The "move out of NY/CA/wherever" BS is old. Honestly, that is counter-productive. It would be more beneficial if gun-loving folks in free states moved HERE so that we could just vote all this asshats out in one shot. When we could all move to Cali and do the same there, etc. But that is entirely unrealistic, and so is simply moving for many folks. I have a family home here in NY as well, fortunately, my wife's place in VT is available for getting my shit out of the state when the time comes. Good thing the real estate market turned to shit back in '08, otherwise we probably would

There is some misunderstanding here, then. The product would not use .45 ACP blanks. It would use powder and 209 shotgun primers; like their XD casing. The casing is far more durable than a normal shotshell, allowing many more reloads. It is field reloadable. The primers are held in by snap rings, and the whole thing screws apart for maintanence/cleaning and loading.
-
No, it isn't a misprint. The screw-apart reloadable shell offers a lot of functionality over what normal ammo casings will get you; especially in the way of field-reloadability.

Hi there guys, So I've been in contact with the owner of reloadableshells.com to make a 12ga shell based on their essential design. I've tried the Magtech brass shells, and the primer pockets have been out of spec for me, and I wanted something more durable than brass anyhow. He will do a run of shells in anodized 6061 AL. Price will be $30/shell, and we'll need to get a minimum qty of 50. If I get enough interested people, I'll front the money to have them built. Anyone interested?

10rd S12 mags fit perfectly in Romanian mag pouches designed for RPK magazines (40rd 7.62 / 45rd 5.45). The Romanian pouches I have are a navy blue color. I know for a fact they work beautifully. You can fit 4 10rd S12 mags in there with no issues. 12 round mags would probably work too, but you'd probably need to re-work the latch mechanism on the pouch. You probably want to do that anyhow to use velcro and make them easier to re-seal. There is also a small additional pouch meant for an oil bottle that holds a handful of 12ga shells nicely as a bonus. I suspect other comblock RPK pouches w

8x 45rd bakelite mags 4x 30rd bakelite mags approx. 500rds 7n6 ammunition. $800 takes it all. I'd prefer to do it all in one transaction, but will consider parting it out if I don't get takers for the full deal.

I'm with you on that, but for slightly different reasons. I've found that the auto-adjust on the optics I've tried worked fine, in both darkness and bright conditions.. though I am wary about such circuitry going awry and leaving a poorly visible reticle, I've found that isn't really a problem with the optics I've tried (no Russian ones, but I've used the Burris FFII, a Zeiss Z-point, and a few others..). The bigger issue for me is that without manual control, I can't tone down the dot. So if I want to try for a more precise shot, it is difficult if the dot is blooming. Hands free operatio

IOR is great, isn't it? Their glass is made by Schott Glasswerk, who also provides glass for Zeiss companies. I've heard rumors that IOR has licensed some of Zeiss' recipes for coatings, so conceivably one can get glass every bit as good as Zeiss from them, with a bit of savings to boot. I've used an IOR hunting line scope, and found the elevation and windage adjustments a tad hooey.. not imprecise, they just didn't feel great. I'm not sure how their tactical line compares in that regard. But the clarity is certainly wonderful.
-
That looks really, really nice. Seems like the perfect level of tint, too. A good tint like that is definitely needed to help keep the reticle visible. I assume it still washes out though when pointed at a good, bright light source? That is one of the main things keeping me away from tritium based optics if I can't cowitness it. Though I have to admit, the Obzor is intriguing. Any chance the optic can be removed from the mount? Even if I have to put together my own mount, I'd like to try to get it lower to the bore if I were to use one. The height is really the only thing stopping me f

Hey TX; I know you're a combloc optic lover and all. I can certainly respect that. I'm an optics geek myself. I haven't played with the range of combloc optics you have (I've enjoyed your info and reviews though! good stuff) but I've taken a few for a spin. Personally, I wouldn't rate combloc optic clarity as "excellent" - but that is all in what you get used to. But it is certainly good, at any rate. You're sort of right about the mount/rings issue, but that is only if you go with a picatinny side mount. That is how I got the experience with Russian optics in the past on my AKs.. didn

FWIW, I find the HK sights to be a pretty decent solution for a shotgun. A set with a notched rear is pretty quick, and you can dial up an aperature on the drum for shooting a slug if needed.

Well said. I'm glad to see some positive news in this area. I had full confidence that Mike wouldn't let us down, so long as things remained stable on the political side. Personally, I don't care about large capacity, so even if a political magazine capacity limit were put in place again, I'd still be in the market for a shit load of these mags. I don't like the drum partly because of the bulk, and partly because of the weight of 20 shells. But I'd love to see short, compact 10 or 12 rounders that rival or even best the quality of the factory Russian mags. This whole thread shows that pe

Well, "worth it" is pretty relative and depends on what you're looking for in terms of features. I've used a kashtan a bit. It's nice, but I wouldn't pay more than $300 or maybe $400 for one. But, and this is huge here - I'm not particularly fond of the dragunov style rangefinder or stuff like that. I don't like how high it sits. Also, $600 or so is about my beginning point for an optic, so I have a lot more options to look at. So, for me, the russian optics don't offer me a great deal compared to other product lines. If you really want the ranging reticle.. if that is a "must have

Yeah, the more I think about it, I can't think of a good reason to build a purpose-built suppressed AK.. at least for an individual. I know the Soviets did it with certain suppressed krinks, but they also issued special heavy subsonic ammo, as I recall. You could probably get a suppressor going that is designed to supply a large amount of back-pressure to the gun to aid cycling subsonic rounds - but again, that stuff is tough to find in combloc calibers. Even so, this would probably preclude you from firing supersonic because of the overpressure that would result. The AK is an inexpens

What kind of weapon is this for? Something like this gives you no ability to clamp the optic back down with the same amount of torque each time. You're not going to get a good re-zero with it, I don't think. You might get close enough for S12 / buckshot patterns. If you're not concerned about re-zero (i.e. it only comes off if the optic fails) then you're probably OK.
-
You're not going to get fantastic suppressed results with either, since the rounds are supersonic. 7.62x39 is more popular than 5.45 - so you may have better luck finding subsonic ammo in that caliber. If you reload, it may not be an issue. But I wonder whether a subsonic round in either caliber would cycle the AK properly. The gas system is very loose on the AK. There may not be enough pressure without modifying the weapon for subsonic ammo. I'm not sure about that though. All that said, the 5.45 should suppress better because it is a smaller caliber = less blow-by in the suppressor.

How round is the dot in Aimpoint Micro H/T-1?
sickness replied to mnemonik23's topic in Saiga / AK Optics & Sights
Variable power scopes (1-4x like the one linked) won't give you a true 1x. It's usually more like 1.2x. Just enough magnification to be distracting. There are a few true 1x scopes, though. But you're talking a bit of money. On the lower end is the Leupold Prismatic. About $500 for the optic. Leupold will replace the reticle for your for $150. Google "Leupold reticle chart" to see the options. IOR Valdada makes the "Pitbull" a 1x and 4x (no zoom, just switchable between true 1x and 4x). I forget the price, but it is north of $700 to be sure. The Soviet Rakurs optic is also an -
Q: "Cheap" , "Cheesy" and "Chaos" Which one doesn't belong? A: Chaos It is very well made. It is THE rail system for the S12, period. Adds weight though.. which is the downside. Other than that, there isn't really much to find fault with. The only thing I would have done differently, if I were Cameron, is to have the rails themselves screw down to a base. That way some of the weight could be shed, if not being used. But having them machined out of the same billet adds stability with no chance of things loosening up.. I'd prefer loctite, but hey. Still a great product. But.. back t
