  1. I know some people cringe when this brand is brought up, but Cabela's seems to have plenty of Herter's stuff in stock. I use if frequently. It's not the most accurate ammo, but it always goes "Boom" when I pull the trigger.
  2. This is where I purchased mine a few weeks ago. Great service.
  3. My 7.62 will be wearing one of these soon. Does one hold an advantage over the other? I appreciate your thoughts and comments.
  4. Anyway, it looks like the OP's found a way to remove his rifle's gas tube already, but I'd like to share my favorite method to remove an extra tight fitting tube; rotate the locking lever up until you have a flat plane, (no obstruction to the tube moving up), then loop a zip tie down between the tube and the barrel. Pull steadily up on that tie and the tube will pop off, without damaging any of your rifle's parts, even cosmetically. This is a great idea and I'm going to use this method next time. Thank you ALL for your great advise!
  5. Got the dust cover back on with a hearty whack. Good gravy! This gun sure seems to like punishment.
  6. I ended up taking the forearm off then giving it a little tap with a small mallet. Came right off. Now I' trying to get the &%%$^ dust cover back on.
  7. AK platform= loose tolerances. You may have to play the release lever back and fourth a bit to find the sweet spot,AAND you may have to take a screwdriver to it and pry it off, dont worry about hurting it give it hell!! I can't even figure out where the head of the screwdriver should go to pry open the cover.
  8. Just took delivery of my new Saiga two days ago. I have not had a chance to shoot it yet, so last night I thought I would try to familiarize myself with field-stripping it. Everything was OK until I got to the gas tube. I lifted the lever on the side and tried everything I could to get the gas tube out. I tried moving the lever to different positions. Nothing. I tried tapping on the forearm. Nothing. It would not move, It didn't even come loose. (Yes. I removed the bolt carrier assembly) How in the *&*&&%%^#^^% do I get this thing off? Do I need to remove
  9. Just picked up 500 rounds of Herter's at Cabela's this morning. The 7.62 FMJ was priced at $119 / 500 before tax and comes in a plastic ammo case. SP ammo was a bit more expensive. Better deals are out there for sure, but I've always wanted to try Herter's for myself and Cabela's is the only place to get it. I
  10. Surprisingly, there does not seem to be that much out there comparing these two options. The few posts I was able to find seem to say that the SGM is well built and easy to install, but wobbles a bit. The Tapco is easy to install, but has a "Toy-like" quality and seems prone to burning after sustained, heavy use. I'm hoping for a few fresh opinions.
  11. I need to replace the forearm on my Saiga and was wondering which is the better product, SGM or Tapco. I simply want something thats easy to install (I do not want to make any modifications to the gun to install this), and have the ability to hang a flashlight or possibly some type of optics. http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/intrafuse-saiga-shotgun-rifle-trirail-handguard-od-tapco-p-576.html http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/saiga-rifle-trirail-forearm-sgm-tactical-surefire-p-398.html Cost isn't a factor. I just want something well made, easy to install and durable.
  12. So no "Break-In" necessary? Just got my shipping confirmation from Atlantic Arms a few minutes ago. I haven't been this excited since my wedding night.
  13. Hi All, Brand spankin' new to this forum and Saiga's too. I should be taking delivery of a new 7.62x39 ordered through our friends at Atlantic Arms next week. I'm not new to firearms by any means but I am very new to Saiga's and the AK platform in general. I remember firing an AK back in college (many moons ago) and loving it. AK's have always been on my radar, and I finally decided to pull the trigger on a new one. I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but can you tell me how to go about the initial cleaning? Also, is there any procedure I should follow to
