  1. Yep. We have all been talking about this at work. We really thought North Texas was pretty safe for us. Now we are going to 5 funerals. Sucks.
  2. No problem with what DPD did. I would have done the same thing if I was smart enough to think of something like that.
  3. It's happened 4 times, the last of which was in 2000. The other 3 times were all in the 1800's
  4. Man I wish I could quit. Kudos and much respect to you for it. Just a piece of advice if you don't mind. Never, ever, under any circumstances "bum" a dip off a friend. You will end up at the store with a can. I quit for 2 years and it only took one dip for me to be right back at it. And I wish I could order another case, but I just took the plunge and bought a WASR. Friend who is an FFL had one for 550. I cant believe that is a good deal on a WASR, but what the hell. I have been dying to put plum furniture on an AK, and that will be what this one is for.
  5. So where do yall think we are headed? Full on 2013 panic? Mild 2008 panic? AR stuff is not exactly flying off the shelves but it is being bought pretty rapidly. And we just now are getting powder and reloading supplies back to full strength. How far do think this panic will go? Obviously the election winner will have an impact. Just curious how bad do yall think this panic buying will be?
  6. My 10 year old daughter goes thru 30 round mags quicker than I can load them. She drops the mag, hands it to me and says "empty". This guy has never shot an AR 15. Or any other gun for that matter.
  7. I totally agree. That buying panic will be repeated, just not sure it will be quite as long. As a reloader, I am happy to see powder now available. That just now recovered from the post Sandy Hook run on guns and ammo. 22LR is starting to come around again. But I think all that ends in November. Now, let Hillary win the WH, and the Dems take back the Senate???? Wow. That will really be scary for us.
  8. Outside of my faith.....it would be my daughters. Nothing means more to me than them. 11 and 3. They are my world.
  9. It is a great idea, and looks very organized. I am going to keep it mind if I every get too many cases of ammo to effectively store. And I agree with your point about the elections. I have taken care of all my reloading supplies, but may rethink how many cases of x39 ammo I keep on hand. Yeah, those fat 50 cans look just about perfect for x39 storage
  10. That gets my vote. How much you enjoy teaching really depends alot on the school and the administration. We have two high schools in our area with more than 3000 kids at each school. One school has high turnover and the other never has openings. The schools are 4 miles apart and basically have the same demographics of kids. One has a great admin and the other sucks. My wife taught at the one with the great admin and she loved it. I spend alot of time at the school and all the teachers basically love their job. 4 miles down the road, not the same story.
  11. i just stack the 1K cardboard cases up in the corner. They pretty much pack those about as efficiently as possible, so they work great. Once I crack one open, I put whatever I don't shoot in a 30 cal can. I have two 30 cal cans that go to the range with me; one for pistol and one for rifle. All my reloads go in cans based on caliber (9, 40, 45, 223). I just seal them up in a freezer bag-gallon zip-locks. But I do like the set up yall got going with the cans. Especially Spacehogs'. That's just sexy.
  12. I've debated 9mm build for a long time. Several friends have done it, and they turned out great.
  13. Damn fine idea. I think you may have told this to me once before a year or so ago. I am bad about thinking really hard on a project for a few days and then getting distracted by another project. Back on the VEPR now, so maybe this time I will actually get a bipod on it. I just worry about splitting the wood. I don't plan on putting any unusual stress on bipod or the sling swivel stud, but then again it would be a good excuse to upgrade to the IWD or Rhineland furniture. Thanks again for the suggestion, and I am ordering a sling stud bolt shortly.
  14. No I am not concerned about looks at all. Just want functional. I have thought about a few options....such as the sling swivel stud that is basically a wood screw. Just screw it into the meatiest part of the handguard. Like I said, could care less about looks. I just want it to be functional without messing with the harmonics of the barrel or the gun. For whatever reason, the VEPR does not have a sling swivel stud, and the screw on the front of the handguard is some unknown goofy thread that it not very sturdy to begin with. So I basically have to install something to attach the bipo
  15. Sorry, I know this is in the wrong section, but I was afraid no one would see it in the Vepr 308 section. Just looking for ideas on mounting a bipod to the Vepr 308. Its the version 1, no integrated sights if that matters.
  16. Wow! Awesome. I would not be able to stand thru that dry-eyed.
  17. First choice would be my lightweight AR. Second choice would be M&P 15-22.
  18. In order of desire... Sig P320, compact size (about Glock 19 size), in .45 cal Remington 700 in .308 AR 10
  19. I'd love to tell you to get over it, but I would be the same way about it if it were me. Honestly I would try and make it look intentional, which means you will have to create the same thing on the other side. Make it something geometrical and small, and do it to the other side. Its custom to begin with, so make it even more custom. A little sanding and filing and you could make a small half circle. The scratch is easy, but the chip will be impossible to repair. So I would just smooth it out and make it look like a design element of the handguard.
  20. 2010-x39 for $299 2012-x39 for $425 Both were unconverted. I think about some of the deals I passed on in 2009 and 2010, and I want to kick my own ass.
  21. And they probably sold for $99 back then.
  22. I may get tarred and feathered for saying this, but you don't need the tang to put wood on. Yes, the tang offers structural support, but the stock will fit and hold just fine without the tang. Slide the stock in, screw it down and shoot it. It ain't going anywhere.
  23. While this is great news, I am going to miss the "Made in Russia" stamp. I have 2 Saiga's and 1 VEPR, so I didn't miss the boat, but I wish others getting into the AK market could get the sporter Saiga, learn it backwards and forwards through the conversion process, and have a damn nice AK at the end for about 500 bucks. Those days are long gone, but I do believe we will eventually lift that small arms sanction against Russia. Or at least I hope.
  24. I had a Kel Tec 9mm. It was a medium size, and cannot remember the model. It was awful. The trigger was so bad, that you had to damn near pull it through the back of the trigger guard to get it to fire. Ergonomics sucked too. It was a many years ago, and I have owned much better Kel Tec handguns since. My Kel Tec PF9 is a great little gun.
