  1. +1 I have some Promag and CSSPEC 20 rounders, and the Promags are okay for the range, but if you seriously need to depend on the gun, the CSSPEC ones are the ones I'm carrying when the Russians invade. "Wolverines!"
  2. You know, if you put a robe on her and a hood, she'd look just like the Emperor from Return of the Jedi. She acts the same as well. Coincidence??????????

    VEPR

That looks awesome. Does anyone know if someone makes a dragunov stock for the square back Vepr? I googled it and all I see are the ones for UNconverted Saigas, Mak90s that have a slight angle, and the Vepr with slant cut. Am I missing something somewhere or has my google-fu been much defeated?
  4. FWIW, I love the feel of the stock Saiga stock and hand guard, but also like the look of wood. I bid on a couple wood sets on Ebay and GB recently but lost. I have been thinking of taking my durable polymer stocks and having them hydrodipped in a wood theme. My gunsmith does an amazing job, and the patterns look just like real wood. Just an option since Saiga wood stocks are hard to find. Alternative for us in states with stupid gun laws fearing black rifles.
  5. FWIW, after I heard rumors of the slip on brakes flying off, I had mine spot welded to the FSB by my gunsmith. Pretty tight, solid, and if it should need to be removed, just a small grind here and there. I also opened up one port just a tad. Touched up with some black paint and put thru 100 rds of .308 silver bear. Haven't shot since last fall, but hope to this spring. To cold and remote at the range. No Dunkin Donuts close by.
  6. I have seen these, and they look pretty neat. They have an adjustable gas system too. I don't think the non-chrome issue would be a problem for about 99.9% of users. The only .308 I am familiar with being corrosive is some old 80's Sellier and Bellot, and some Norinco 7.62x51. The stock looks very similar to a Mak 90 with the angular gut, so maybe a Mak 90 stock would work??
  7. I did see some steel FSBs for AKs listed on Ebay a bit ago. They are listed for "airsoft" rifles mainly due to ebay's rabid anti-gun policy. Typically anything referring to an "assault rifle", gets removed. Search AK front sight or AK sight. They clamp on using a set of screws, but you may be able to also use more permanent methods. Good luck.
  8. I think I have a spare plastic monte carlo style original stock set if you need one. If you are really wanting wood, you could just have the plastic set hydro dipped, where they coat it with a wood like finish overlay. My gunsmith does it, and it looks really good, and realistic. If interested, message me. Just pay shipping and handling, and it's yours.
  9. I have pretty bad vision. On my old 1895 Tula M91, I got some of our parts labels at work and cut them to fit the sighs. The Mosin sights are not the best, but the bright color contrast greatly helped my sighting, they are not permanent and pretty darn cheap. Did the same to my SKS irons, and my M39, while retaining the original military sights. Cheap and easy for those that aren't scoped. For my Saiga 7.62x39, I plan to paint the front sight hi vis orange, and use the green label on the rear sight slide, or use a fiber optic front sight post.
  10. My father's Ithaca 12G and Winchester 94 both have ornament engravings in them. I woulda never thought to do designs on the stock of an AK battle style rifle, but I must admit, it does look pretty classy. I like it.
  11. You drive all the way up to my Post Office from Norfolk? Whenever I go on vacation, I go in to tell them to resume delivery, so they'll hold it. Our Post Office was great until they forced out the ones who knew what they were doing and replaced them with mutant clones. We live in a townhome community, and when our road was repaved, the pavers knocked down our multi unit mailbox down. It took 1 month to get it replaced. Then when the box was put up, the carrier stuffed a ton of mail in our box, along with the envelope containing our new mailbox keys. It only took 2 days for her to get them out
  12. The KSG looks pretty cool. How heavy is it? Looks mainly plastic (lightweight). I wonder about recoil, if it is really light, but 14rds of 12G ain't bad. Congrats, they both look awesome.
  13. I wouldn't recommend getting shot by a 25acp, and people have been killed by that cartridge, but that wouldn't be my choice for self defense or hunting. The purpose of this discussion is to objectively and realistically look at the performance of different 7.62x39 loads. The fact that your uncle is still around to not recommend being shot by an AK tells me that he survived being shot by an AK. That doesn't prove that the round is ineffective but it doesn't prove that it's effective either. My uncle was shot by a 7.7mm Japanese at Quadalcanal. He didn't recommend being shot by one.
  14. ^My last purchase was also a can of 7.62x54r from Sportsmans Guide for about $90 shipped. Hope to get some .308 soon for the Vepr.
  15. I bought a M57 Tok a few years ago to keep my Yugo SKS company (since they speak the same language). I really like it, the machining is nice, built sturdy, and I also bought a 9mm conversion kit for it. Glad I did because right after I bought it, cheap surplus 7.62x25 dried up. The 7.62x25 is a cool little round, but I am glad I got the 9mm kit. Basically you just need the barrel and bushing, as the mags can hold 9mm a bit loosely, but still work fine. I love my M57
  16. I am holding up in Carroll Co. Hello.
  17. I don't know what is okay in CA, but do they allow thumbhole stocks? Here's a good looking one if unconverted; http://www.troupsystems.com/saiga.htm
  18. Generally, in my Saiga and SKS my defensive rounds are Yugo M67, ammo with 8m3 bullets or softpoints. I have some steel core Chinese, but would probably only try that if someone had some body armor on. Also have some Golden Tiger if needed, but use that for sighting in a rifle since it shoots pretty well in everything I run it thru. The Wolf, Tula, Bear FMJ is just range ammo for mine. If anyone is looking for it, these folks have some 8m3 HP 7.62x39; http://www.quietriotfirearms.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=U762 Not a bad price, and I checked the nose and the hole IS larger and see
  19. I was going to buy one of the 23" 54r Veprs within the month, but CFS will no longer sell to MD residents. Sucks............ Now I will have to pay more for one off GB or something.
  20. I am looking for a finished thumbhole stock for a Vepr rifle with a square back. I understand some came finished, some came unfinished as throw aways wood. Looking for a finished stock for a sqaureback rifle, preferable 7.62x39 or smaller caliber, as I "think" the larger 308 and 54r ones will need to be modified. So, if you took a finished squareback stock off your Vepr to put on a typical AK stock, and aren't using it, I'd like to buy it and give you some money to put towards ammo. Please name your price, and if you want shipping to 21158 in MD, and if you have any pics. Thanks a ton. - Chris
  21. Nvermind, changing look of rifle. Disregard, thx.
  22. Still never got around to converting my 7.62x39 Saiga, but I really really like the thumbhole stock on my Vepr rifle. I kinda want to clone that look with my Saiga. I searched on Google and found standard Saiga wood stock pictures, and the dragunov stocks, but no nice thumbhole ones. Anyone know of any wood stocks for these non converts? Thx
  23. I HAD a 7.62x54r Vepr, but sold it becuase I didn't like the mags or integrated sights. They have a short sight radius and only flip from 100 to 300 meters. I bought a Vepr .308 with a 16'' bbl, and has a slant back receiver, but I am keeping the wood stock. Mine has the standard AK sights, up to 1000 meters, and is a pretty slick heavy duty rifle. Alos have my side mount for a scope. I have some 20rd Promag and CSS mags. Oddly the Promags seem to lock up tighter in mine with no wobble, both are metal not plastic, but the CSS ones are built like a tank. If you run outta ammo you can beat someo
  24. I am looking for a vented handguard for my 7.62x39 Saiga. I tried a couple aftermarket ones, but none were as comfortable as the stock one. I Googled and can't find them for sale anywhere, but found this sample picture from an expired Armslist posting. Looking for one, as I don't want to cut up my stock one. I'm not that skilled at cutting/drilling plastic. Thanks
