  1. I bought some Chinese steel core stuff for my Norinco SKS and found it wasn't as accurate as the cheap non corrosive Tula. And the Tula is not my favorite. May just be my SKS, but the rest of the cheap Russian stuff seems much better for me.

    New Vepr

Some are, some aren't. I think the ones with integrated sights are, they are just capped. I hated the integrated sights though.
  3. I apologize if this has been discussed, my computer is acting screwy. I did search but only found some reviews and comparisons on the Vepr mags. I sold my Saiga .308. Bought a Vepr .308. The mags looks "similar" but not exact. Is it possible to convert the Saiga mags to fit the Vepr? I do not want to alter the Vepr itself. The mags are 25rd Promag polymer .308 Saiga mags. I cannot sell them in state, nor on ebay, so it's use them or loose them. I just didn't want to go half ass grinding and trimming without any real idea on how much, or if it'll even work. Thanks - Chris
  4. I was wondering if anyone has modified any Saiga .308 mags to work in a Vepr .308? I did try to search but keep coming up with a Saiga Forums Driver Error. Reason I ask is I have 3 25rd ProMag Saiga .308s left after I sold my Saiga .308 to buy the Vepr .308 and was curious as to whether I could still use them, just modifying the mags. I didn't know if it was a matter of cutting the bullet guide off and trimming the mag catch, but didn't want to mess with them without asking first, so if not I could sell them later. Thanks!

  7. I had a Vepr 54r and sold it to buy my Vepr 308. I didn't really care for the 54r Vepr as much as I thought I would. The Finns had a M26 machine gun that shot 7.62x54r, and they had 20rd mags and 75rd drums. It seems they only used the 20rd mags though. http://en.wikipedia....-Saloranta_M/26 I bought one of the 20rd M26 mags from Liberty Tree and was going to have my gunsmith mod my 54r Vepr to use them, but gave up in favor of the .308. I still have the 20rd mag for 54r but nothing to use it for. Maybe a Mosin one day, LOL.

    New Vepr

Okay I guess with Tula. Waiting for my Silver Bear to get here. That stuff seemed to shoot much better out of my Saiga .308, I assume the same with Vepr.
  9. If you get a Saiga .308, since I sold mine, I have 3 25rd Promag magazines for a Saiga .308 if you need them.
  10. FWIW, my first Vepr I had had the newer integrated sights and I hated them. I got another Vepr and it has the older style sights which I like more. Of course, if your front sight is canted, I can see your issue with it.

    New Vepr

Picked up my new Vepr .308. Sold my Saiga.308 to help cover it, but kept my other Saiga. I love this thing.
  12. So, if I buy a foreign made gun, install aftermarket parts that do not meet a certain criteria, I am illegally a manufacturer. I also have a car, and I have installed many aftermarket parts on it. So based on the governments view, I guess I am now a car manufacturer as well. Now where's my damn bailout?? A law is a law. In my opinion, the 922r law is a boogeyman law, like the one the government approved (both sides) to label American citizens enemy combatants, and limit free speech around government officials. "They" say in all likelihood it would never be used against the citizens. But,...it
  13. I had nice Mauser in .308 that shot well, but sold it to buy a Remington 700 ADL Varmint with heavy barrel and scope. I got mine in .308 since .308 is common and shared with my Saiga .308, so less caliber variance to deal with. I got mine with heavy 26" bbl and cheapish but usable (for now) scope at Dick's Sporting Goods for about $500.
  14. Gun guys are like car guys. There is a certain self satisfaction in building and crafting something yourself. As well as in many states, the Saiga is the alternative to the "evil assault" rifle that is out to get us. The Saiga is a brand new AK that gets in on a technicality.
  15. Sorry, didn't notice this was in "Other AK" rifles when I posted. Here's my AK Mosin Nagant M39;
  16. Any updates on the G3 ,magwell?
  17. I love the Mosin Nagants. I have a M39 and a beater 91/30. Love them both. Had a couple more but gave one to my Dad, and sold one to pay bills. Now I really want either a Polish M44 or another M39. My 2; The one I gave my Dad; Being he's older, he likes the smaller caliber guns now since his shoulder was dislocated. This is mainly one I did for him to hang, but I'm buying some 48gr practice ammo for him so he can comfortably shoot it.
  18. Will either the G2 or RSA work in the stock Saiga configuration until I convert to a pistol grip? I currently have the Monte Carlo style rifle stock still on, plan on keeping it for a while until I replenish enough funding.
  19. I have a UTG side mount quick release also. I have a basic tactical scope attached, but I have a strip of Dynamat along the scope side where it won't hinder any attachments as well as cover some surfaces with Dynamat spray to reduce vibration and shock. The stuff seems pretty durable. Figured I had some left from my car audio project so what the hull?
  20. Since I have a couple MNs and a lot of 54r, I would choose the mighty 54r. I would like maybe a thicker 20-22" barrel, adjustable gas system, at least a 10-15 round magazine. I love the 54r for some reason. Of course a small little .22lr plinker is always fun.
  21. If I get some brass, I may have some made up with the Hornady V-max or Barnes Triple shcok bullets. Maybe a variety pack like Sam Adams at Christmas. Just for defense really, the surplus will be the practice ammo, with the exception of the higher grade stuff to test accuracy.
  22. Thank you. I kept getting .223 results using the search here, even though I had 308 typed in, LOL. I guess the 203gr hunting SP rounds I got from a friend are no go then. Thanks!
  23. I have a 16" barreled Saiga .308. I did google and got between 1:12, and 1:9 in my search, not very definite. Used the search here and got all sorts of random threads. I didn't see the answer on the RAA site, or on the rifle itself that I could see. Looking to find the optimal grain bullet for target shooting at the range. Thanks!
  24. Okay. I AM going to practice, just wanted to make sure the S308 can reach out to the 600yd mark. The weak link is the optics system. Once I get my eyes lasered maybe I'll see ok. The guys have an AR10 I think it is (AR15 just in .308, and some 5.56 AR15s. My cheap "commie" gun is going to try and keep up since it belches fire. I'll practice with some NATO 7.62x51, then if I get close maybe some Hornady.
  25. I did search but mainly found responses for the 21" barrel one. We have a range about close by that has a 600yd target range. I have a Mosin M39 that I'm confident would hit it. With a decent scope, could the S308 / 16" be able to accurately hit the mark, minus the shooter's ability? Some Ar guys want me to come along and shoot, and the S308 is the biggest caliber semi auto I have. Any input would be appreciated! I am practicing, but want to be sure the rifle can do it before I make more of a fool of myself.
