  1. I would agree, but 2 things prevent that; 1. Time + money = do not have 2. I am in MD, and being the guns are already black, they are very scarey. Put into an Ak configuration as opposed to the sporter configuration will have politicians spinning in their graves. I would likely be classified as a terrorist or gang banger. Just keeping it simple for now. Just the cost of .308 ammo is taking up most of my extra gun money. Maybe later on after I aquire parts I'll convert the x39 then maybe the .308. I took the x39 out to the range this weekend and forgot how much more felt recoil it
  2. I bought a Remington 870 Police Magnum off GB a while ago. When I went to my FFL to complete the transfer they had a Pardner Pump Protector for sale. I held both shotguns side by side, inspecting both for about 20 minutes while they were doing a backgound check on someone else. Sadly, as nice as the real 870, I felt disappointed I could have gotten something as good for about 1/2 the cost. Both have machined components, not cast, and the Pardner is supposed to have a strong receiver. The Pardner is a very nice, affordable shotgun for those of us with a mortgage, kids, daycare and medical expen
  3. The Yugo ammo, while good is corrosive. I bought some for my Yugo SKS. Many Yugo SKSs were brought over with the gas systems completely corroded up. Fortunately mine was unissued I guess, as it was spotless. For plinking I just use the cheap Walmart stuff in my Saiga and SKS. It's OK stuff. If I want to push my accuracy, I'll use the Yugo stuff, but you REALLY need to clean the gun very thoroughly after shooting. I have heard the Russian surplus 5.45 is the MOST corrosive stuff out there, but I don't own a 5.45 Saiga yet. I have a little bottle of water and Ballistol mix with a tube attachment
  4. I chose the Saiga Semi for the simple fact here in MD, I bought mine unregulated. That said, in a SHTF scenario, if the governments attempt to confiscate firearms, it would make them easier to hold on to. The Saiga is a very reliable rifle, doesn't scream "Terrorist", and I don't need the bayonet or fancy grips. In a SHTF scenario, I think my Saigas would be adequete. I'm more concerned with food, water, shelter, medical supplies, communication stuff. I have enough other guns and knives, but the Saiga is enough of a gun for what I need. Just my $.02
  5. I am fairly new, mainly been lurking, but just got my Saiga 7.62x39 a big brother. A Saiga .308. I plan to keep them fairly stock for now, maybe doing the bullet guide conversion for the x39. I live in MD, and was very fortunate to get these both as unregulated rifles, not the evil "Regulated Assault Rifles" they are usually transferred as. As a regulated firearm they are subject to approval (or disapproval), longer wait, and more fees. In there stock sporter configuration they are, or should be regular long guns which can be sold by a dealer with the quick Federal check, or face to face with
  6. I haven't bought a .308 yet. I found one on GB but missed out. I am considering getting a Saiga .308 as a all purpose heavy hitting rifle. I thought about a shorter barrel for general use, then maybe a longer barrel for looking like a PSL as I'm also considering a PSL in 54r. Didn't realize swapping the barrels wouldn't be so easy. Saiga would have made this sooooooo easy if they had a 7.62x54r rifle like VEPR will. I hope to get my .308 in the next month or so.
  7. I am looking to soon purchase a Saiga 308 to go with my x39 Saiga. I have read the debates over the 16" vs 21" barrel but I think I've decided on 16" for versatility and I'm probably going to side mount a scope. However, since I haven't opend up the x39 Saiga yet, how hard is it to swap a barrel on a Saiga 308? That said, does RAA offer/sell parts like extra barrels and other parts should I ever want to swap out? As far as accuracy and precision, my rifle after the S308 will be either a Remington 700 or Savage in .308, so I am not to worried about the accuracy restraints of a Kalishnakov actio
  8. New guy here. I have an ultra rare (insert sarcasm) fully stock Saiga 7.62x39. I bought this as a complimentary weapon to my SKS as they share the same ammunition. Love the rifle, and I'm currently looking online to buy a 16" .308 Saiga, and then maybe eventually a .223 or 5.45. I may alter this rifle later, but for now it's a fine rifle. May not be after I "moderfy it".
