Spot in my Saiga 12 barrel - what is the cause of this?
wayfaerer320 replied to wayfaerer320's topic in Saiga-12
Update - I did some more scrubbing - it appears that most of that was indeed just residue that needed harder scrubbing to remove. I still see a spot that looks a little off in color compared to the rest of the barrel, but, it's definitely not as bad as it looked before. -

What would have caused the chrome lining to chip off? I can't reach my finger in far enough to feel it, but I'm almost sure it's not residue - I scrubbed the barrel (not too hard though) pretty good. -
I was cleaning my S-12 this afternoon when I noticed something weird inside the barrel. It's hard to make out in the picture, but basically, inside the red circle, there is a spot (that is outlined with dark edges it appears) that looks like the surface in that area is a mirror - almost as if the original coating has been removed from that spot. What do you make of this? The gun is 6 months old with probably 200 - 300 rounds through it. I only ever fired 00 buck and slugs through it, nothing else. I tried scrubbing it and cleaning it with CLP, and the spot remains:
