  1. "Assault/military styled rifle weapon" or something like that is what I have heard in the news lately. I know I heard it come from Scarborough though at least once. I didn't care for the reference, nor the contrived tears. I'm sure we'll hear LOTS of "assault styled" or "military styled" weapon references in the future.
  2. Weren't there also quite a few studies that proved the previous AWB did NOTHING to curb crime? (Mostly because the majority of crooks and gang-bangers didn't use them in the first place.) Let me see if I can find some links, we need to get all that information published everywhere too! 3. No I haven't really. You make a good point. I guess I could say my concern would be more towards the shall/will issue states rather than may issue states (and I'm ignorant as to the particulars of every state out there), but my statement was in general. I'd like to see training required for concealed for sure. I get to do mine on the 22nd. My buddy from WA filled out his ppwk with no training and was issued a permit in short order. TX apparently honors his permit... that's where I get get nervous... no training in a training required state. Bah, it happens with all kinds of certifications thou
  4. What I take away from all of this is: 1) understand your environment and the environment you create/alter with guns 2) secure your environment (guns)
  5. Not what I heard... Okay Okay - I take it back... Dick's in Austin is overpriced... I go to Academy for sporting goods instead.
  6. I wouldn't have thought about that... cookie dough, brisket/meat, and Jello, yes... rubber, no. Thank you!
  7. The tab on stock mags is thinner than milsurp. If you filed the Tapco tabs to fit stock you should be fine when filing the mag catch. Like others said, go slow. If you get to the point where your mag catch is really tight and won't release, you are almost there... if you have to unfreeze the catch, knock gently as it WILL BEND if you try to hit too hard when releasing your mags. When you start getting your milsurp to release clean, that's about where you should stop as your stock mags should still fit snug and work fine (and in this case your Tapcos too!). Your stock mags should also work fine
  8. (I had an argument with a buddy who did service in the Army about clips vs. mags... he was adamant that his training used the word clip) I think there's a fair chance a ban might pass; to what extent, who knows. As far as taking weapons away... fat chance there. Outlawing/regulating magazines might very well happen. I can understand the argument that some make with hi-cap mags making killing in volume easier, but it does get handicapped a little when finer points are made about multiple low-cap mags. I have most of what I want so I'm not too uneasy, yet. (that's just me being self-cent
  9. It's an odd thought. I think it is in the right direction, but from a regulation standpoint, where will that stop? Higher education facilities? Corporate or state government offices? What if said CHL/CCL holder goes off the deep end? A student steals their weapon? Ack... all sorts of questions. I'm for it though. This plan was proposed in 2008... I had not heard about it.
  10. I was using a barrel mounted quick detach (QD), but it didn't have a pass through for the cleaning rod. Is that a big deal? I don't know. It didn't feel "complete" to me. I removed it (it was pretty sloppy too. Now I am trying a different non-QD with a pass-through for the cleaning rod. Yes, it's heavier, but also tighter in operation. I'll try it out for a little while longer before I make a "final" decision. My experience so far with a bipod is positive.
  11. I swear I remember watching a video where the MD-20 was run over by a truck (maybe mid size) several times and kept on ticking. I think it was being compared to other drums. He starts on the MD drum at about 4:30. That was it! Thank you!
  12. I was of a little to the side so the screw head wouldn't seat as far as expected. I wound up planing the BG so the screw head would seat as expected. I imagine if you elongate the hole in the BG you should be able to make it work fine. The carrier will let you know if you're not seated far enough. If that turns out to be the case, plane the BG a little and or the screw head a little. You can do it without a crap load of work. Remember your loctite when doing a final seat.

  14. I used a cordless drill and went really slow.
  15. They work even better when bought on Black Friday for ~$7 a piece. I'm liking the simplicity!
  16. I gently removed a touch at a time off my mag catch with a hand file until the milsurp mags fit tight (at one point TOO tight - couldn't get them out with banging mag catch with heavy instrument). Now, the Saiga mag fits like it did from the start and I can use the unmodified milsurp mags. The Saiga mag works fine with the BG installed. I didn't have to modify any of the mags in any way. If I do get mags in the future that turn out to be thicker than the milsurp, I will file those to fit the rifle, but I doubt I will go with anything other than milsurp on this rifle.
  17. Six to one, half dozen to another as far as trustworthiness when you don't have a history with an entity. Either one is going to promise you the world potentially to get you to buy. Once you find a shop that you feel has done right by you and or your acquaintances, it's nice to stick with them even if for peace of mind that you're getting what you pay for. I agree with jbanzai about deals with private sellers. Retailers are certainly more expensive on average in my history, however, the biggest rip offs I've seen have been from private sellers too. Maybe it's a crap shoot until you build a rel
  18. I'm not tracking on the amusing factor. Safe to assume that rifle is NOT what the seller says it is? Not to kill the mood but would someone explain for me?
  19. I'm late to the party, but bienvenue!
  20. I thought it funny he built on the EDGE of the property too rather than as remote as possible. Not that a central location on his property is best, but two minutes off the main road (at the most)? He's obviously got an ego that interferes with his common sense.
