  1. great! btw, they just came out with a FAL trigger too.
  2. Here http://www.redstararms.com/. Remember to buy the trigger for the Vepr in 308. I think its ten bucks more than the standard model.
  3. Here is my almost finished Saiga 308 16 inch. Its bought the Ironwood Designs laminate stock set. Beautiful, although I bought their long buttstock which is very long at 11 inches - thats another inch+ past a standard M16A2 stock for reference. (Anyone want to buy the buttstock?) I stained the handguards and pistol grip with iodine and coated it with 6 coats of amber shellac. Its got Dinzag's sweet HG retainer and a filed up East German gas tube; I think I might opt for another one which retains the retainer. The last step is in the hopefully in the mail: an Ace (now J&T) non-folding
  4. Other than the stock configuration and trigger set up, are there any other differences?
  5. or try cycling without the bolt. if the gas tube is not seated it can bind the carrier.
  6. i miss and want krebs old top-cover mounted sight.
  7. Montana - thanks for your excellent write-up. Its good to see real numbers for someones load and honest ten shot groups. Three shot groups mean little. One question though - what length barrel are you using?
  8. check your gas tube. i have noticed that if it is not seated (pushed down) it can cause the bolt carrier to drag. the result was FTEs.

    AK Gas Tube

i bought a couple east german gas tubes. they fit good enough, but i will have to grind down some of the metal so the latch will close. the ejection pattern changed once i put it on. instead of ejecting at 2:00 - 3:30, its about 1:00 now. i have previously noticed that my 308 saiga has a inconsistent ejection pattern. sometimes it throws them 8 feet out, other times they dribble out; sometimes its 2:00, other times its 3:30. the new gas tube is much more consistent.
  11. buy from freedomoptics. i bought a red dot sight that broke after maybe 40 rounds - cant remember exactly - and the guy took it back. he stands behind the product.
  12. interesting. i did not know that. i guess it makes more sense to change up hardware and cut down the barrel.
  13. good info...im mainly a 308 guy so im i dont know anything about the 223s. i really want a ak-104. texas, whats involved in milling out the slot? i didnt get that.
  14. I was looking at k-var's website and noticed their Bulgarian made AK-104 barrel assys: http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?prod...=274&page=1 Will that work on a Saiga? (And yeah I know thats a lot of work...)

    .308 Ammo

what do tolerances have to with anything? chambers are chambers (hopefully!), which is all of where the lacquer is contacting.
  16. over in FAL-land there are a number of threads on tuning the fixed ejector (just like the AK's ejector) so that the ejected brass flies where you want it. tuning means modifying the lateral angle of the ejector and also modifying its pitch. i think the brass has too much spin but im not sure. i cant figure out where its hitting for sure. once i do im thinking of doing the mods. if i mess up then ill have to weld a bead back onto the ejector and refile.
  17. dagroaner, what stock set up are you using? im guessing ace and if so what length stock did you buy? how do ya like it? im trying to figure out how to go...
  18. more power to you sopmod. i do almost the same thing - ive spent a lot on add-ons. im waiting for dinzags HG retainers as i write and perusing ace's website to figure out what folder i want.
  19. nice. but you can buy almost four saigas for the price of the DR!
  20. dinzag, correction taken. check your PMs. here is a valentines day present I can enjoy!!!
  21. THats sweet!!! Dinzag, Im awaiting my HG retainers...
