  1. It's a .223 with a tight-ish bore. The factory proof paper says 4 shots in 137mm! Maybe he wasn't trying very hard? End of a long day? We used a pilot for the 5.45x39 with the annular cutter to remove the shroud, since the .223 pilot wouldn't go in. thanks to all for your help! FraserMaine
  2. Thanks, mancat! I'll look for the box with the paperwork in it, and see what it says. I'll also try to get a picture of the barrel with a .223 cartridge in it. I'm also looking for a 5.45x39 cartridge, to see if it chambers. I've never owned one, but a guy I know probably does. So it sounds like I either have a .223 with a tight bore, or a 5.45 with an oversize bore. The rifle is currently at another guy's house, I'll pick it up and take some pictures. FraserMaine
  3. Stops about a quarter inch shy when you hand-feed it into the stripped rifle. A buddy slugged the barrel, and reports .222. FraserMaine
  4. Halfway through two conversions and just discovered that the pilots for the annular cutter and threading die won't enter the muzzle on one of the rifles. They do on the other .223. Both are marked .223 but were purchased probably a decade apart. Could one of them (it's the newer one) actually be a 5.45x39? Thanks in advance for any help! FraserMaine PS. I really want a .223 one!
  5. M: Ah. I'd like to have an argument, please. R: Certainly sir. Have you been here before? M: No, I haven't, this is my first time. R: I see. Well, do you want to have just one argument, or were you thinking of taking a course? M: Well, what is the cost? R: Well, It's one pound for a five minute argument, but only eight pounds for a course of ten.
  6. My slapped-together Saiganuv .308. Waiting for my 20-rounders to arrive. FraserMaine
  7. So, I'm trying to make my Saiga .223 look more Galil-ish. I order up a Krebs FSB/ gas block and discover that the gas port on the barrel doesn't match up with the chamber on the gas block. Do I : 1. drill another gas port in the barrel, or, 2. move the gas block to where it lines up (which would involve forcing it over the step in the barrel and shortening the gas tube and maybe the piston)? Can a barrel have two gas ports drilled in it? The old hole would be covered by the body of the gas block. Thanks for any help!!! Oh, yeah, it also looks like the Krebs FSB is going to be t
  8. Has anyone ever tried to make a bullet guide with Acraglas or JB Weld? Seems like it would hold up, but there must be a reason that no one does it that way. A no-drill/no-tap solution if it worked, and you could shape it to provide just the contour you wanted. I haven't tried it, just curious as to whether others have and found it unworkable, or if nobody's tried it yet. FraserMaine
