  1. Don't mean to be overly critical or come off as paranoid, but usually if the government is doing something they shouldn't, they won't admit to it. Your website is a .gov url, it's from the government. All I'm saying is if they were doing something wrong, their website would say what it does regardless. I usually stay out of the NAU debates, but I just thought I'd point out that observation.
  2. If you do put a pistol grip on a Saiga, you're going to need other US parts to be on the safe side. If you really want a "as Russian as possible" Saiga, just get the skeleton stock like the OP was inquiring about. 922r affects everything that it covers, and then a little bit more than it literally says. I for one would not risk a pistol grip Saiga conversion that is not 922r compliant and trying to use the "I only use the factory mag" as a defense.
  3. I just thought of something, as I am waiting for my Tapco trigger group to arrive. Assuming there is no pistol grip, I only need 4 US parts to be compliant, not 6. That means I can just take the hammer from the FCG, trim it to let the BHO clear, and then I'll be fine. Anytime the gun is "nonsporting," it has made in the US magazines (1 + 3 = 4 US parts. 14 parts - 4 US parts = 10 imported and thus OK). With the 5-round magazine in, it's sporting and then it's fine.
  4. You're not overcomplicating it, I'm just too new to modifying Saigas that I didn't realize that detail about the G2 FCG (it's been paid for, but has not yet arrived from Tapco). It looks like now I'll have to do a full conversion. Thanks for the information,
  5. Correct. I was asking if this is a valid argument or if the ATF will say that once an AGP has been in the gun, it is now "nonsporting" regardless of configuration (in effect, can the gun switch between "sporting" and "nonsporting" classifications regularly depending on the magazine without penalty, as long as each time it is "nonsporting" it has the US compliance needed)
  6. After reading the ATF rulings on this thread, I'm looking at just barely making a standard factory Saiga 12 IZ-109 legal for use with the AGP 10 rounds (and Mike's drum when those are produced). First of all, thanks guys for posting this information. I never would have figured that it would be a 922r violation when it wasn't any real modification. My plan so far has been to install Tapco trigger group ( http://www.tapco.com/proddesc.aspx?Id=7f8c...60-894e018c8330 ). That'll be three American parts there. As I do my math, if I insert a 5-round factory magazine, it doesn't meet US
  7. The 922r rules only concern Saigas if you convert them (ie, put a collapsing stock and a pistol grip on one). It does not affect or cover unconverted Saigas.
  8. Alright then. Does anyone have the literal text pertaining to sporting vs nonsporting firearms? I'm not particularly anxious to spend more money and convert my Saiga, but I also want to be able to have and use the AGP 10-round mags (and my drum when it's finished). Here's a question -- if I just get the FCG installed, would that be compliant? If I put in a factory 5-round magazine, it's still sporting and thus ok. If I put an AGP ten-round mag or a drum, they're made in America and then the gun is compliant. Is this correct?
  9. I thought that the magazine capacity did not matter at all for a Saiga 12, simply because it is already an "evil feature" by virtue of it being detachable. There was a list of "evil features" in the law that specified that if a shotgun had 2 (or more) of them, it was "unsporting." Among them are things like pistol grips and adjustable stocks. There are two lines that apply to magazines: Taken from: http://www.atf.treas.gov/regulations/27cfr178.html The Saiga doesn't have a "fixed magazine," so that clause can't count against it. The other clause says "detachable magazine" w
  10. I'm near the back of the list for the MD-20. I stumbled upon it by chance elsewhere, which brought me to come back here. I have one on order, and in hindsight I wish I had bought two (or more). Funds just weren't there though. I have my (still) stock IZ-109, and since the "detachable magazine" is an "evil feature" regardless of capacity, it's still legal. I've thought about conversions, but I'm fine with it the way it is. Looking forward to seeing that drum, but I'm patiently waiting.
  11. I was going to try this, but I haven't picked up the other compliant parts and I couldn't figure out how the block was supposed to connect to the receiver (and I'm fully aware I'm not using proper terms, as I don't know them). No instructions were provided, and the only ones I found online were for doing full conversions. So I guess until I figure it out I have an extra CAR stock and a grip lying around.
  12. Are there good Muslims? Sure, but they've rejected several core ideas from Islam that Muhammad himself practiced. That's the biggest difference between Islamic extremists and other extremist groups (such as the "abortion clinic bombers" mentioned earlier in the thread). The other faiths/beliefs do not have a violent imposition of their views as part of the doctrine (in their religious text). While sometimes in history other faiths have and in some cases still are fighting, it's not central to the faith. The Quran is the only religious text I have seen that calls for killing the "unb

    Drum -ammo

I had a good stock of S&B, but on hearing that they wouldn't fit I went and stocked up on some Federals that I'm saving just for the drum. The S&B can be shot through my ten round mags.
  14. Physically? Yes. Legally? Depends on if you did a lot of part exchange on the inside of your gun. Pretty sure a summary of the US Parts Count law is in a FAQ here.
  15. I'm currently in the process of collecting the parts needed for a S-12 conversion. I've found pretty much everything I'm going to need, except for a gas piston. I checked in @ Tapco's website for parts, and both "AK pistons" are not the same length as the Saiga 12 one. Where is the best place to find S-12 gas pistons? Thanks much,
