  1. Was over on Calguns, and saw this post. Just wondering if there is any truth to it, and what the real experts thought about it.
  2. Hello all. I installed an FSB that would allow me to put on a '74 muzzle break. I shot it and decided it was straight and am now ready to pin it to the barrel. The kit came with the sight from Dinzag. One of the pins is barely longer than the other, and it came with different sized drill bits. Is there a certain way to pin it given the different sizes?
  3. The thing with the SGL21 is I would end up replacing all the furniture. Are there any other significant differences? The only thing the SGL21 has that I want and is lacking on the Classic Arms conversion is the front sight block and muzzle break. I figure it would be cheaper than $300 to get that done down the line. Is it worth it? If you have a dremel tool with a cutting wheel, and a rubber mallet it really isn't hard to cut it off and put another one on yourself. Thats what I did. I was nervous at first, but it proved to be a pretty easy process. Google and YouTube are definately y
  4. Thats what she said. Anyways, I have had the same problem. Really annoying. I'm thinking about replacing my Kvar stock set with a wooden Russian set.
  5. Spanky If you are just looking for a way to clean your barrel I use "weed whacker" line. I take a length long enough to run the barrel length, tie an knot at the end, heat the knot to make it melt a little. Then I cut the other end at a sharp angle, push a patch over it and slide it down to the knot. Use your favorite cleaner and pull it through from the breach end. Use you thumb and forefinger at the muzzle end to keep the line from rubbing on the muzzle and your good to go. Cheap, effective and you can keep it in your pocket. I have also been known to use a piece of paper towel fol
  6. Nice job. Just paint 'er up and she'll be all ready to go.
  7. Hello all. Can some one tell me what cleaning rod the Arsenal rifles come with? From what I have read, not all AK cleaning rods are the same length. So, if someone could let me know the correct one that will work, that would be be great.
  8. I dont have first hand experiance (I just installed the '74 brake on my rifle, have not shot it yet), but I remember reading another forum that said it does indeed make the rifle louder.
  9. The way I did it was I cut off the old FSB (as described in my previous post), and then used a different FSB that I got from Dinzag Arms that is threaded to accept a '74 muzzle brake. All I did was simply used a rubber mallet to pound it on until it was flush with the muzzle. You have to make sure your the FSB is not canted though. There are different methods to this, like using a laser bore sight or shooting it to see where its at. After you have the FSB straight, use a drill press and drill holes through the bottom of the FSB that will go through the very bottom of the barrel (you can se
  10. Thanks guys!! I also have one more question though. I put the FSB on as straight as I could judge with just my eye. I dont hve a laser bore sight or else I would use that. I was reading on another forum that it is ok to shoot before it is pinned to make sure the sights are lined up. Is this true? It was pretty tough getting on there, even with penetrating oil, so I dont think it would fly off once I started shooting, but just wanted to be sure.
  11. I actually just did this tonight. The way I did it was I used a Dremel to cut a horizontal line down each side of the FSB sleeve until I was just about through to the barrel. I stopped and used a rubber mallet and beat the FSB off. You are not trying to cut all the way through to the barrel. You are simply just trying to cut the metal thin enough that you can use a hammer or mallet to get it off the rest of the way. If yours is pinned on then someone else will have to chip in on how to best remove it. Mine just had the dimples.
  12. No no, I would never put JB weld on rifle. I dont like using that stuff on anything.
  13. Well, I added a '74 muzzle brake to my Saiga. This was the last thing that I wanted to change for the conversion. I ordered the parts from Dinzag three days ago and they arrived at my apartment today. A little over 2 hours and I had the old FSB off and the new one with muzzle brake put on. I did it by cutting the horizontal lines down the old FSB and beating on it until it came off. I still have to pin it, but that is going to wait until I get up to myparents house and use the drill press there. I do have a question though. When I take the brake off, the barrel is flush with the end
  14. Yeah, it is kinda hard to get to with a bullet. It is a pain, but if it allows me to legally have the gun then I'll deal with it. I think it would only be illegal to alter it if you altered it in such a way that you could reach the mag release with your fingers, thus being able to take it out. As long as you keep it so you still need a tool to drop the mag, then I think you would be fine.
