  1. Yes, my 20" barrel is nearly 1/8" thicker than the 16". Measured with a micrometer just ahead of the gas block the 16" barrel has a diameter of .580" and the 20" has a diameter of .691".
  2. I have Saiga 5.45's in both 16" and 20". I have been able to get groups of 2" at 100yds with both rifles consistently using surplus (The 20" does not like Wolf ammo... groups open up around 4"). I have not tested them side by side at longer ranges than 100yds but I do suspect the 20" would probably get better performance at ranges past 200yds. The longest I have shot them was 200yds and both group well but I did not measure the group size at that range. I do notice one difference though. The 20" does perform better when the guns heat up. My group sizes open up noticeably more on the
  3. I would like to add one thing I forgot to mention when I converted my 20" 5.45. It would not work with a Tapco G2 trigger. The tab on the selector that engages the rear legs of the trigger was too short. When the safety was engaged the trigger would still fire. So I put in an old Century made two-stage trigger group which I had laying around for nearly a decade. It was from an old WASR-10 before they put in the Tapco triggers. It would engage the safety because it had longer legs extending from the back of the trigger. So those considering this rifle may need to consider a different tri
  4. I did get a chance to go out and shoot my new 20" 5.45 Saiga pictured on the first page. The weather was frigidly cold and there were 35MPH winds that day so I didn't bother setting any targets up past 50 yards. With the weather as it was I didn't attempt to shoot for groups. Hopefully when the weather improves I can truly see what it is capable of in terms of precision. My first impressions on how it shot were great. The iron sights were dead on out of the box. With the heavier and longer barrel it handled recoil like a champ. It had less noticeable recoil and muzzle rise than my Bulgaria
  5. Do you have any suggestions where I can find these? Thanks! Try J&G sales, Rguns, What A Country, 44mag, or RRC firearms
  6. It has a Round Trunnion, actually both my saigas do.
  7. Saiga 20" I did the rear conversion the night I got it, hopefully I will get to shoot it this weekend. For those looking to do a front end conversion of some form, the barrel diameter under the FSB is .673, GB is .710, and barrel between FSB and GB is .693 With Saiga 16" 5.45 and Bulgarian 74 for comparison
  8. I just picked up a 5.45 Saiga with 20" barrel at the gun show and I can confirm it indeed does have a heavy barrel with the .308 style front sight base. The front sight base and gas block are pinned on and not dimpled. I just converted the back end and will have pictures soon. It also has the TGI engraving and dimples. I can't wait to see how it shoots!
