9 seated slug extracted from loaded shell

From the album: GM's album
does not appear to seat all the way to the base. Maybe that helps expand the hollow slug base? -
From the album: GM's album
this slug had "rifling - like " grooves pressed into it by Remington's plastic wad when seated. -
It doesn't look like it seats all the way to the base. I have no idea what effect that would have on ballistics, accuracy, or pressure. I guess it would make sense that the air between the wad base and the slug would be compressed into the hollow base and expand it though. Maybe I have stumbled onto the missing link ninja element of shotgun slug accuracy from a smooth bore!woohoo this calls for a drink! - wait too late - a second drink!

No pics uploaded yet (will do that tomorrow- God willing) but I found something that I never would have expected when I pulled the load apart. This is pretty cool. The lead slug is grooved by the ridges in the wad. The ridges pushed grooves right into the soft lead when I pushed the slug down into the wad. I am casting slugs with lead pipe so it is 100% soft lead. It takes the shape of the wad inside the hull without deforming the hull. I am only speculating but I bet I am getting good accuracy because the slug is expanding when fired and forcing the wad tight against the barrel wall

They fire fine, and do not bulge the hull but I have not pulled one apart and now you have made me curious. I will take a look when I get home tonight.....

Finally got some pics. It is strange. Seating the slug inside the hull and wad works great but the same wad outside the hull doesn't seem to fit the slug at all! here's a link http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/gallery/album/1108-gms-album/

rough. I have been in your shoes. It sucks. all you can do is your best to keep those you love safe. -
FYI, I have tried a hand held pipe cutter and it simply crushes the shell instead of cutting it. I don't know why since I bought it new an dpresumeably sharp, but I couldn't get it to work on shotgun shells.

Just plain weird Squishy! I'll have to pull some apart and take pics. Just to throw more weird out there - someone on another board mailed me the shot from 100 shells to swap for slugs. The box arrived perfectly taped and 100% empty. No stray pellets, no empty plastic bag that shot might have spilled out of, no note that teh sender said was included - absolutely 100% empty, and the box 100% intact. WEIRD!

Using the pipe to facshion a 12 gauge version of the bullet puller is a good idea if you are disassembling shells. I'd make a hammer shapped version. No need to drill the pipe there is absolutely no way that using it properly will set off a primer. Just don't be dumb enough to bang teh base of teh shell on the floor! Squishy - I don't know why your Remington game loads don't work - mine worked perfectly dumping the one ounce of #8 shot and swapping in the one ounce slug directly into the factory loaded wad.

Honestly, you need a gunsmith. It's not a "breaking in issue" if you can't cycle 00 buckshot. When people talk about the "standard FTE on low brass" issues with Saiga they're talking about birdshot typically, like #7 1/2. #1/00/000/slugs should never have problems. I agree (and I'm an advocate of "break -in" )

gaaah - don't melt your lead shot! Buying shot to mealt is waaaaay more expensive than melting down scrap lead to make slugs. That's crazy! At $5 per box of one ounce birdshot shells - you are paying $3.20 per pound for the 25 ounces of shot. You ought to be able to bu lead anywhere for $1 per pound. Shoot the shells, then relaod them with your own cast slugs or I'll sell you one ounce slugs at 20 cents each..........
