  1. Thought it was straight piped, the old EAA 22"s had fixed full chokes. The "paralax rifle choke", "barrel extenstion" and 2rnd mag Looks like a good system for geese! Have you tested it yet? If so how does it compare to teh straight pipe?
  2. Anybody know what choke is built into the 24 inch barrels?
  3. Anybody know what choke is built into the older 24 inch barrels?
  4. Your so called fix is not appreciated and uses language I don't want to be associated with. You may not know it, but velocity has little to do with accuracy.
  5. In NY if I read the regs right - you need the 2 round plug for waterfowl but you can use the full 5 shell mag for turkeys and partridge.
  6. If a firearm proves unreliable, I have no place for it in my home. If it breaks, it leaves and I get something more reliable to replace it. That's why I like the AK platform. It has never failed me. I don't expect an AK or a S12 to break anything in my lifetime. But I believe in having duplicates in case my kids need them. I can not understand why anyone would own just a single version of anything that your life may depend on. Just buy 2 and get it over with. Not only will you have a spare, but you can share the spare with someone to help you in a time of need. And then - buy a bac
  7. Now that you have decided I will tell you the exact opposite. I tried shooting trap with the 19 inch and went from breaking 20 out of 25 with my side by side to hitting just 10 out of 25! Tried several different loads and really never was able to hit more than 15 or so out of 25. I just couldn't justify teh S12 for more than home defense but I wasn't willing to give up just yet. So I bought the 24 inch model and am now hitting back in the 19 and 20 out of 25 bird range. Going back to try 2 more loads with the 24 inch tonight.
  8. Its possible for factory loaded shells to have the same problem that reloaded shells could have. A slightly protruding primer or a "soft" primer could contribute as well as any stray bit of crud that would keep the firing pin from fully retracting, combine that with a shell not fully seated forward into teh chamber and you sure could get a detonation of primer. But even though I single feed my reloads through the mag well to shoot trap, I've thankfully never had a slam fire.
  9. I'll just have to practice more! I'm only getting about 10 out of 20.
  10. I have tried several powders (H322, BLC-2, IMR3031, R-7, Alliant 2400) but have not found a load that actually performs better than factory ammo. BLC-2 produces a load with jacketed projectiles is accurate enough to hunt with, and I have a load that functions well with 155 grain cast lead bullets and IMR3031. It is not a tack driver but I can plan on having something that goes bang for teh next hundred years if I need it and don't run out of powder and primers.....
  11. Red - have you ever gotten it to work well? When I use mine I end up with more slag to cut off than round balls. Any tips?
  12. Thanks - I sent him the info and I think he is picking one up.
  13. This always makes me laugh. Ever been shot? Ever see a deer, coyote, or hog flip to legs in the air when they get hit? That doesn't happen to the shooter when they pull the trigger.
  14. A friend of mine saw my Saiga 12 and wants one. If anyone happens to have one for $600 or less shipped. Give me a shout. Figured I'd try here before he just orders a new one.
  15. I want a free conversion! THANK YOU! I spent the 4th with a family BBQ ended with shooting the S12 at night to test my new flashlight / red dot mount
  16. 2 points to the OP - you don't need to put all your ammo in one place. And lessons from Hollywood movies - "There is nothing to fear but fear itself, and running out of ammo." and "I don't mind getting shot, but I don't want it to be because I wasn't shooting back!" Beyond that here's something I published nearly a decade ago but it seems worth sharing again, even if the prices quoted below have already doubled! How much ammo should I have? First and foremost I am a firm believer in “Buy it cheap and stack it deep.” I mean – c’mon, what other useful yet consumable item
  17. Dang JRW - your avatar makes me wonder what the heck she was saying! lol As for cleaning the S12 - open gas tube, dump plastic bits from hulls onto floor, stick a paper clip end in the gas ports to be sure they are clear and maybe wipe the sooty powder residue off the puck and inside of the tube if you feel ambitious. Reassemble and repeat after 10 or 20 boxes of shells.
  18. I ought to try skeet then - maybe I could hit more
  19. I've never shot skeet but I undertand that the targets can be closer than typical for trap.
  20. Yep. I was hoping it would reach out for trap (which I consider practice for hunting). I can only break birds about 50% of the time with it as opposed to much better scores with other shotguns. So I'll keep the short barreled version for things that go bump in the night but I don't think I'll use the saiga for live birds.
