I have Chinese, Bulgarian and E. German 30 round steel mags that fit and function in my AK47 and all 10 of them work in my Saiga as well with no problem. All i did was to install a feed ramp and very lightly file (@ 10 strokes) the under side of the lug on the backside of the mag.

I had zero experience converting a rifle of any kind when I did my conversion. Just follow the Shieks How-To and you won't have any problems. Here is a pic of my conversion.

THe open sight on my Saiga 7.62 X 39 were right on at 100 yards. I was spinning iron plates with no problem.

I have two 4x32 riflescopes. One Tasco Omni-View with 30/30 reticle. One Bushnell Sport View with crosshair reticle. Both of these scopes were mounted on hunting rifles that have accounted for several deer and a wild boar. They are like new and have never been abused. There are a few small scratches from the scope rings though. Would you be interested in one of them?
