  1. Bvamp: If what you say is the case, then all the people that are building AKs from parts kits are doing it illegally and there will be a mass arrest by BATF shortly. I'm certain that these people aren't all licensed firearms manufacturers.Check this site out: http://www.akfiles.com/forums There are no firearm registration laws in my home state. And as far as I know there isn't a federal registration law either. As long as you are making the weapon for your own use there is no law against it but you cannot make it for sale. If I'm the owner of a AK receiver, it is considered to
  2. yeah, i'm replacing the parts on my receiver that doesn't have any.
  3. I'm building an AK from a Hungarian AMD63 parts kit and would like to rivet it together if possible. I am not equiped shop wise to make a rivet squeezer from a bolt cutter as some people have suggested. What size of factory made rivet squeezer should I get.
  4. I'm overjoyed that we finally got rid of FA990. That kid is very, very sick. He reminds me of a kid I ran across when I played "Fighter Ace" on MSN. He was stupid enough to give me his real phone number. I called his parents during the we hours several times and let them know he was harassing lots of people online. He disappeared and I never heard of him again. Come to think of it he was from Ohio. The same guy perhaps?
  5. If you convert to pistol grip and standard butt stock eye relief with a compact scope will be acceptable. (standard AK stock is shorter) If you leave the gun like it came out of the box a full length scope will be necessary for proper eye relief. BSA scopes are very good for the price, as are Target Sports and Leapers. The Russian optics are really good for the Saiga but they are butt ugly IMHO. You can't go wrong with Bushnell scopes. They are my favorite.
  6. FA990 is trashing this forum. He is too ignorant to reason with. It's time to get rid of him.
  7. IMHO FA990 is definitely polluting the gene pool and should be ignored.
  8. Let's see some pics. It should be interesting and I could learn something useful.
  9. PuddleJumper: The .223 is also legal for deer in my home state. a well placed heart/lung shot on a white tail with a .223 soft nosed hunting bullet would be absolutely devastating. With normal loads @ 3000-3200 fps it would have the same effect as a death ray. The .308 would be just as deadly and at longer range. I killed a 500 lb feral hog with a .308 and when i was field dressing it I couldn't believe how much damage the bullet caused. I was aiming for the heart lung area and the hog turned to the right just as I pulled the trigger. The bullet struck the hog in the left hip, travele
  10. If you look carefully at your scope mount you will see where the screws that would allow you to physically move parts of the mount by loosening them are secured by pins thru the mount frame. What you have to do is remove these pins from the mount and before you adjust windage and elevation with the scope internal adjustments, bore sight the scope by physically moving it's parts. Secure the screws with locktite so they won't come loose then sight in normally.
  11. Send the POS back to K-var and get your money back.
  12. Ned: The Adapter is $25.00 plus $8.00 for S & H.
  13. Puddlejumper: 7.62 x 39 has ballistics nearly identical to the 30-30 so it should be adequate for white tails. Use the heavier soft point bullets like WOLF 154gr for deer hunting. As far as target shooting, the Saiga 7.62 x 39 isn't a tack driver. If you want a Saiga that is inherently more accurate, choose the.308.
  14. Russian optics look like they were assembled by a mad plumber with bits from his scrap box. They just don't "look" right to me even though I have heard the quality is excellent. I will have to stick with western style scopes.
  15. Ned: The Muzzle brake adapter fits over the FSB ( I call it a barrel shroud) and attaches with set screws, it will be custom made to fit the Saiga. The muzzle brake screws on to the adapter. However I will put everything together for a trial fit and if ok will mark where the set screws touch the barrel shroud, drill some shallow holes in the barrel shroud for the set screws to fit into and to keep it from flying off from recoil. if all goes well I will screw on then sweat solder the muzzle brake to the adapter, recheck alignment and head for the range to try it out. If testing is
  16. Ned: I have one of the AK74 Style muzzle brakes from RPB and it is a quality piece. Well made and nicely finished. I have ordered a muzzle brake adapter from dynasystems and it has taken several months and I still haven't received it. (They are swamped with work it seems) I'm hoping I receive the adapter within the next couple of weeks. This is the URL for Dynasystems: http://www.dynasystems-ltd.com/ When I have it installed will let everyone know how it works.
  17. forget using the rivet and drill and tap a hole for a screw. I made my "bullet guide" from a piece of 3/4 inch pipe. I never did anything like that before and it came out fine. I attached it with a 6/32 sheet metal screw with Locktite and it has remained in place after 1000rds fired. If I do another conversion I will buy a guide from K-var and use it just for a change of pace.
  18. This outfit is supposed to have good receiver blanks too. http://bentmetal.homestead.com/bentmetal.html
  19. alduro: Converting the handguard on your Saiga is a lengthy procedure that IMHO is a big pain in the behind. Here is what Sheik Yerbouti had to say about it: There is a reason why you haven't read much about it - it's not easy. And as for looks, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The forearm of the AK was always the ugliest part for me. The Saiga/VEPR stype handguards are superior in ergonomics, BUT, if you insist, here is what is involved: - Remove the Saiga handguards. - drift the pins out of the FSB - Press off the FSB with your 12 ton press - Remove

    7.62x59mm

You should try handloading ammunition for your 7.62 X 39 to get maximum power. However, when handloading you should approach maximum loads with extreme caution. Heavier bullets will make the rifle recoil harder. Adding a muzzle brake will make the rifle noisier as well. I really don't understand why you want the rifle to kick harder and sound louder as it will only make it more unpleasant to shoot.
  21. I'm thinking about trying to make a AK receiver from a pre-bent AK receiver blank. Does anyone have a list of the sizes of drill bits required to do the job? I looked at several drill size charts and none of them show drill bits that are the same size as the holes on the receiver drill template.
