  1. I used the FSE single hook FCG in my conversion from RPBUSA everything fit just fine and works flawlessly. The FSE FCG is also $10.00 cheaper than the Tapco FCG.
  2. If you just want to fill the holes left by removing the Saiga trigger, 1/8 inch X 1/8 inch pop rivets with thin backup washers on the inside will fill the holes. The pop rivets will not stay in the holes without the washers. I think flat washers for 4-40 size screws is what I used. If you want to make sure you have correct size, take a pop rivet to the hardware store with you.
  3. Hartzpad: This is what I would do if I was going to put a forward pistol grip on my Saiga: (By the way I think a forward pistol grip looks like crap on AKs and Saigas) 1. Cut a suitable piece of wood or plastic to the proper length (I would probaly use a piece of 1 inch dowel or something similar. ) 2. Drill a hole all the way through the center for a long bolt. 3. Drill a hole in the bottom of the Saiga forend. 4. Epoxy and fiber glass a proper size nut that fit the long bolt inside the forend where I drilled the hole. 5. Shape the wood or plastic to a pleasing countour, and apply
  4. Hartzpad: Use the RSA retainer plate and trash the springs unless you are real short of cash. I couldn't get the Saiga bolt hold open to go back in so I cut a notch in the Selector/Safety Lever and that works fine.
  5. You are spending way too much for parts. RPBUSA has high quality parts at rock bottom prices and excellent service. I spent right around $100 for my conversion parts. I filled the leftover holes from the Saiga trigger with 1/8 inch pop rivets backed up with small washers.
  6. I hate to say this, but that is without a doubt the ugliest contraption I have ever seen.
  7. IVAN: I have one. Sent you 2 emails already. vps@juno.com
  8. Yes. My stock Saiga 10 rd mag still works in my conversion with feed ramp.
  9. The BSA Red Dot sight from WalMart is very good. It performs like sights costing a whole lot more. Had mine at the range today and it's so easy, put the dot on the target and shoot. For the less than $30 price it can't be beat.
  10. I emailed Ultimak and they do not have a gas tube for Saiga rifles at present but are working on one.
  11. The receiver cover scope mounts DO NOT WORK!! They are made to fit regular AKs and will appear to fit the Saiga but will not actually fit properly. The 1st round you fire the mount will come off with the scope! Side rail mount is best. I bought a AK74 style muzzle brake from RPBUSA for $14.95 that is the lowest price of any AK parts vendor. However you will have to buy a barrel adapter from Dynasystems-ltd.com. The muzzle brake and adapter are both available from Dynasystems-ltd.com A muzzle brake that will fit on over the barrel shroud of a Saiga rifle and has to be welded in place, is
  12. I just finished my 1st conversion a few days ago. It's a no brainer. Just follow the steps on Sheiks' Conversion web site and/or get the Conversion CD from Messiah Jones. I enjoyed it so much i'm thinking about buying another Saiga to convert.
  13. Finally got to try out the scope this past Sunday. Seems ok and point of impact was so good after boresighting I didn't even adjust it. What really surprised me is that the iron sights were right on and didn't require any adjustment at all. I must've gotten a exceptional rifle.
  14. K-var has all of the buttstocks and pistol grips you could possibly want. http://www.k-varcorp.com
  15. I used a single hook trigger on my conversion and it dropped right in with no trimming. However, my single hook trigger doesn't move very much at all before the hammer drops. Have you tried installing the entire FCG and see what happens when you pull the trigger? The trigger pull feels completely normal even though it moves very little when pulled.
  16. Suppose you removed a piece of the barrel shroud in front of the sight (seems to me a tubing cutter might work) and then threaded the exposed part and screwed on your US made muzzle brake?
  17. Bigfoot: Going to take it to the range on Sunday. Will let you know how it turns out. Eye relief is sufficient with my standard length Warsaw Pact buttstock, don't know how it would be with the Nato length stock.
  18. Bigfoot: Scope is a Target Sports 3 X 9 X 42 from CDNN Investments with MilDot Reticle $34.99. Stock # TAR39X42P4 with Duplex Reticle #TAR39X42. Also available with lighted Duplex Reticle for $39.99 #TAR17 Mount is also from CDNN Investments (EAA factory mount) $ 38.99 Stock # EAA170003
  19. My conversion finished. Many thanks to Sheik Yerbouti for his excellent instructions and conversion web site and Messiah Jones for the informative CD.
  20. I have seen quite a few AK parts kits for sale from various vendors. All of them are classed by the ATF "for replacement parts only". What I want to know is how can you legally build a AK from a parts kit if they are "replacement parts only"? Since a receiver is considered by the ATF to be "a firearm", if you own a receiver can you use the parts kit to replace parts on the receiver and construct a complete rifle?
  21. Zachman: Most people use a new US made 3 piece FCG on their pistol grip conversions. That way the addition of a US made pistol grip and buttstock will satisfy the requirement for 5 US made parts.. You must have at least 5 US made parts to be legal. If you made a new trigger out of the original trigger parts it is not legal unless you have the required 5 US made parts. What 5 US made parts did you use in your conversion?
