  1. I've read numerous threads (here and other forums) about a cleaning regimen for corrosive ammo. I own Mosins and I've shot a lot of corrosive ammo. Fortunately I live in a relatively dry climate but I still clean up as soon as I get home from shooting. Is the Saiga happy with hot water, patches, solvent (like Hoppes #9), and then some CLP?
  2. Thanks for the encouragement! I will definitely spend more time reading/watching videos on saiga conversions. If I like this one as much as I hope I will, I am getting one in223 too.
  3. Sounds awesome. Maybe you could post pics of your conversion along the way. I've looked at a bunch but still feel most conversions are beyond my skill level. Heck I even considered laying down the silver for a Red Jacket conversion but then I saw this and it was more of what I was looking for and the right price. Hogs of East Texas...I'm coming for you.
  4. Cool! I think this one is just about to the level of conversion that I wanted but I'm a big chicken when it comes to wrenching guns. Sure I'll field/detail strip them and all that jazz but when someone says, "Now take your Dremel...", I lose confidence.
  5. Order has been placed... Can't wait to get it in!
  6. Does this one need a bullet guide installed so it will take other mags? Also, does Atlantic Firearms give forum members a deal on shipping or anything? I may have to order this one. Looks good...
  7. Thanks yall. I will be ordering mine soon.
  8. Awesome. Thanks for all the info. I just need to order mine now.
  9. If you do, what has been your experience? I won't be targeting hogs at more than 50 yards away and I was going to use milsurp ammo. Any suggestions, stories, pros/cons, would be great. (I'm planning on a hog hunt once I get a Saiga 5.45. It will be my 5.45 against my Dad's Ruger Mini-14 tactical. Should be fun.)
  10. Thanks for the info in this thread. I've been wondering the same thing (i.e. are all Saigas from different importers the same). I'm looking at getting a 5.45 and a 7.62. I originally wanted to go with a .223 but too many people have told me to stick with a caliber the gun was originally designed for. This forum is making me rethink that though. I love the 223 and 5.45.
  11. Another question for those much more knowledgeable than me: Other than barrel length, ak handguards, thumbhole, is a Saiga 5.45 going to be the same regardless of which armorer imported it into the U.S.? Thanks for putting up with dumb questions.
  12. Thanks for the info. I was also wondering if there are some known issues with the 5.45 that I should be aware of.
  13. I recently joined the forum in order to gain more info about Saiga rifles. I'm interested in the 5.45 and 7.62. I won't be doing a conversion for either most likely. I have a few questions though and even though I've done a lot of searches and reading...well I've done so much my head feels like it will explode. (BTW, this isn't my first rifle/firearm etc. but it is the first time I've looked at getting into AK variants) There are different model numbers on the 5.45 saigas. Is the only difference in model the barrel length? There is one or two local dealers that sell Saigas but they hav
