  1. Keep getting an error message saying that I'm not allowed to post pics using the img extension. I've posted pics from Photobucket this way before with no problems...just wondering if something is going on. Been a while since I checked in. Someone was asking about Dinzagarms, and I was going to show some pics of the gas tube mod...won't let me post any pics. Thanks!
  2. Yes I can verify that Dinzagarms is legitimate. For my conversion, I wanted to maintain the Russian profile. I ordered his AKS gas tube mod system, which used a modified gas tube and AK front sight base to mimic the AKS profile. Brian Smithwick is first class, and worth the wait. He and his wife do this on the side, as he has a full time job, hence the wait time.
  3. I also wanted to maintain the AK heritage...I did go with the Dinzag Arms conversion, and the AK 100 style triangle folder: I also exercised the TIG welder and plugged the holes and welded the rear trunnion and reinforcing plate. Everyone has their own style conversion, and that's cool. Your conversion is awesome! Have you fired it yet? Lived in Jonesboro and Stockbridge from "81 - "05. I still have family in Riverdale and Jonesboro, behind the Confederate Cemetary. Fairly new member myself; welcome aboard!
  4. I fired some of this 3" stuff last weekend, just out of curiosity. I was shooting my triangle folder conversion, with a slip on rubber recoil pad from rusmilitary: I was using the SGM 8 rounder and the factory 5 rounder. Holy cow - no problems cycling that stuff with either mag...ejected the empty shells into the stratosphere. I'm pretty sure this stuff recoils like the Remington Express. It was also very punishing, and not really enjoyable at all. At least I know it will cycle the stuff, but I'm with TacticoolTim...don't plan on shooting anymore of it anytime soon.
  5. I shot mine for the first time this past weekend...I am running a Dinzag gas tube mod with the stock gas plug and regulator. I cleaned up the 4 gas ports without drilling them out bigger. I did slightly enlarge the hole in the gas block to make sure all four ports were accessible. I also used AK fire control parts and had to reprofile the trigger to match the Saiga trigger. I rubbed the bolt carrier assembly, trigger group and rails with a scotch bright pad to slick everything up (no polishing though) The gun was new before the conversion...I wished I fired it like the OP did before breaking
  6. Thanks for posting the offer; It's really cool of you guys, and I'm sure someone here will be very happy to win that conversion! I just finished mine (almost 6 months since I started) and I had a chance to try it out last weekend at a family reunion. I tried a variety of ammo including the 3" stuff (ouch). So far it will cycle everything except for the cheaper Winchester Universal skeet loads. The high brass and high velocity stuff seems to work fine. The 3" ammo kicks like a mule, and I'm not sure you can damper it down enough to be comfortable, at least not with the factory gas plug. Any
  7. That's great man! Everyone has their own ideas for their conversion, and there's nothing wrong with what you are doing. When I converted mine I wanted to retain the AK style look, so I ended up with this: Good luck with your project!
  8. Nice video, but bear in mind that he is shooting a Remington Versamax Tactical with a 22" barrel...an excellent shotgun but not exactly my choice for HD. Shot pattern and penetration is a function of barrel length and choke. Also, I agree that your type of residence and/or proximity to neighbors should factor in when deciding which type of ammo to use. I live on a 1/4 acre lot in a subdivision...neighbors with kids close on both sides and across the street...can't take a chance with over penetration...#6 birdshot or the Federal law enforcement "low recoil" 00 buck is my choice for my partic
  9. How long is "long"? My S12 compared to a Parker double barrel: But what about these: Benelli M4 and vintage Winchester 1200 Marine ...or these: Cobray Streetsweeper and MP40 Yes I would trust my S12 to defend my home (given the OP's conditions). With the side folder and shortened barrel I feel it is an ideal length for HD. With any semi automatic or fully automatic weapon, there always a chance of malfunction, period...could be ammo related too, not necessarily the firearm. I've learned over the years that certain automatics simply don't function well with certain type bu
  10. I would have one strictly for full auto mag dumps...for everything else the 12 round drum and 8 round stick mag is my choice.
  11. Only on about 10% of the guns can you tap the gas block off "pretty easy." The rest will take a hydraulic press or possibly a serious beat-down if the press fit is not very tight.....and some won't even budge with a 20 ton press on them and you will need to heat it up as well. I have also had some where the gas block would just slide off the barrel with hand pressure. So we have a tolerance spread here of 20+ tons to "zero resistance" in order to remove the gas block. Of course if you only work on one gun, you would assume "they are all like that", but this is the Saiga we're talking ab
  12. Yeah removing the two cross pins will probably be the hardest part of the operation. You will need to support the gas block on a hard surface, as the pins will be hard to remove. Also, the spring loaded pin for the gas plug is held captive by the upper pin, so be careful when you drive this out, as you will be releasing the spring tension on it. Then, you can tap the gas block off pretty easily.
  13. I would also check the ejector slot on the barrel: There were sharp edges in the slot that would catch on the shell and would actually shave it: Of course this affected the cycling, so I removed the barrel and filed/polished these areas. You might be able to do it without removing the barrel. I'm not sure if this is what's causing your issues but it's worth checking out.
  14. It can be confusing...either the minimum barrel length (18" shotgun, 16" rifle) "or" minimum OAL defines NFA status, not regular legal status. If one of the two measurements is less than the minimum then the firearm is SBS/SBR.
  15. Got a pic of the extended hood? Hope this helps.
