It seems like the Tapco mags are either all or nothing, doesn't it? I actually picked up a couple that were somewhat used from a guy who couldn't get them to feed his Saiga- and yet, 500 rounds later, they've been nothing but flawless in mine. No bullet guide in mine, either.

Redesigned AK? Looks like it.

I don't love it...I don't hate it....I certainly wouldn't turn one down if it showed up in a Centerfire catalog, though. Looks like a great platform if you have picatinny hands. Your grip would be excellent! -
What is thew easiest way to get the thread protector off
DisThunder82 replied to wtjosaas's topic in Saiga 5.45
I threaded my barrel, since I wasn't one of you lucky dogs that ordered the non neutered one from atlantic. It wasn't terrible, but I did put some loctite on my muzzle break to permanently mate it to the thread adapter. So far so good, though. Couple hundred rounds (did some more shooting today) and it hasn't loosened. It would've been nice to have the authentic FSB already threaded, but you make do with what you get... -
I took mine out yesterday as well! Not sure what part of Utah you're in, but I went to the PMAA range outside Park City. I had a great time, this is quickly becoming my favorite gun to take- cheap to shoot, recoil like a 22 on steroids, and impressive accuracy- I tested out my Krebs FS also and spent the rest of the day grinning. At 50-75 yards, it's untouchable. I shudder to think what a real marksman could do with this thing. Being as this is the Police Mutual range, I definitely got some interesting looks from the LLE's doing their spray and pray M4 practice alongside me....

Saiga IZ 340 AK74 Rifle NEW Model
DisThunder82 replied to Atlantic Firearms.com's topic in Saiga 5.45
Gah! That's a great price. If I had waited a month longer, I wouldn't be ordering thread tools.... Well, there's still hope, I suppose. The lady's fond of shooting the 5.45, so maybe I can get budget approval for another one.... -
Preference Question for 5.45er's: Thread barrel or new FSB?
DisThunder82 replied to DisThunder82's topic in Saiga 5.45
Very true. Have you come across any good AK74 type (as opposed to cosmetic) brakes for 1/2-28 threads? -
Preference Question for 5.45er's: Thread barrel or new FSB?

That's exactly the kind of comparison pics I was needing. Thanks for the quick reply! -
Hi guys- First and foremost, I friggin love this site. I've been lurking around here for about a year, and I seriously walk away smarter after each topic I browse. Which is good, because what I thought I knew about AKs and Saigas comes up to about a 3rd grader level on these boards... So, I'm on my second Saiga rifle project, the smooth-as-butter 5.45, and the conversion process has been going equally smooth, up until this part. I picked up a US copy of the Bulgy '74 brake, and a 24mm thread adapter, and I was about to order the parts for threading the barrel when I saw how cheap the 7
