  1. I got mine close like you talking and I put a pair of channel locks on the shroud and tried turning it like a nut. It will break loose of you are deep enough. If it won't break loose by trying to turn it, cut a little deeper. It isn't threaded on there, but the action of turning it will break what material is left. That's how I did mine.
  2. I do enjoy the build. I got a really good deal on my 762, and it was already converted. Sometimes evan though I got a good deal, I feel like I got screwed or ripped off because I didn't get to do the conversion.
  3. Here she is, all she needs is a cleaning rod and painted. http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp83232%3Euqcshlukaxroqdfv38%3A6%3Dot%3E%3B6%3B8%3D46%3C%3D345%3DXROQDF%3E2639467%3A45254ot1lsi
  4. I bought my .223 right, I only paid $300 for it. It's almost done. I converted the rear and replaced the gas tube and installed the correct handguard. I welded the holes shut and removed the original gas block and fsb and installed Bulgarian fsb and gasblock. I just need to wait for warmer weather to touchup or refinish after the welding and the bare spot on the bottom of the receiver. I'm getting ready to replace the gasblock and fsb on my 762.
  5. The reason why I'm asking this question is I'm trying to justify to myself (and more impotantly explain to my wife) the extra time and money to change the gas block/handguard, welding the extra holes shut, intalling AK74 gas block and FSB etc. Does returning them back to their former glory and adding this stuff actually add to the value of the Saiga? Or is it like most firearm add-ons, your SOL when it comes time to sell? Sorry if this has been discussed before, I wasn't sure how to word the search. In the end it doesn't really matter because it makes me happy, just curious. Thanks
  6. Great range mag's not for my collection. Although some were nice enough to add to my collection. I finally got around to cleaning the 20 that I got from Apex, had to work on a few to get them to work but still very nice for the price.
  7. Is that an Izzy stamp or a Romanian? I have a mag with that stamp and that oval stamp and can't make them out.
  8. Mine had threads under there, just took a hack saw and worked my way slowly around it. I'm removing the FSB and the gas block and installing Bulgarian AK74 anyway. I checked the year of and it's an 09, just in case yours is the same. The folding stock didn't come with it. The mag is a Bulgarian training mag.
  9. Hey mancat, I want to order Tapco's from J&G and they advertise that the m85pv mags for the Saiga .223 Now you said from personal experience that the Tapco Galil/Golani mags do work right? I just don't want to listen to j&g and buy something I have to file on to make it work. I have slabside if that matters. Thanks
  10. If you want to go with a bolt on without notching the barrel Dinzag makes a nice one, it's not cheap but it's very well made. But like the others have mentioned it is part of the original design and won't hurt anything and it's easy to do.
  11. Didn't know if welding the guide in was normal for them or they broke off the tap and then welded it. I got mine from a guy at work that needed rent money. He offered it to me during the scare last winter for $450. I told him he could make more if he advertised it on the net. He said he didn't have time, he needed rent money today. I have had guys offer me quite a bit more than what I paid for it. But once I changed out the gas tube and put on an ak hand guard I fell in love with it. http://images2.snapfish.com/232323232%7Ffp83232%3Euqcshlukaxroqdfv9983%3Dot%3E%3B6%3B8%3D46%3C%3D345
  12. I got 10 from Apex and they are very nice. I went ahead and ordered 10 more
  13. Does your scratched out area seem raised? I always though that they would be sunk in a little. Like W8lifter said mine will be easy to grind down.
  14. I was going to suggest that the rivets they installed in the extra holes. The one on the rear is close to being in the way.
  15. I bought a used Century conversion last winter. Pretty nice compared to the Century horror stories I've heard. I gave few questions for a fellow Century Saiga owner. Did they weld the bullet guide on your rifle? Did they put rivets in the holes left over after the conversion?. Thanks
  16. Seems like you could drill and tap the plate on the back of the receiver, and install an Ace folding mech.? But once you do this you will need to get a sbr stamp right?
  17. Apex has a deal 10 surplus mags for $90. Buy em cheap and stack em deep.
  18. Will the Tapco Galil mags require a bullet guide?
  19. I just found some 40 rd 84S .223 mags pretty cheap. It looks like someone did a little work to the front of the mag where it goes into the receiver. They lock in rock solid in my .223. Do I have to do any work to these to get them to work? I know every gun is different, but I know for the other .223 ak variant mags out there you have to do a little work to get them to work in Saiga's. Thanks
  20. I thought that I had read it in the instructions, but wasn't sure. I do know it was easy to oval it out.
  21. I just took a drill and made my hole the grip screw goes through a little oblong. I did this on all my conversions. Took just a couple of minutes.
  22. All my G2's say Tapco US G2 on the part of the trigger just outside of the receiver.
