  1. Yeah I read that thread back when it was posted (dear lord, have I been here that long?!?!) My first Saiga back then was wrapped in that brown paper. Now they are using yellow bags. Is it the same anti-corrosive shtuff?
  2. What's the deal with the bags that Saigas come in when shipped from Russia? Do they have some type of anti-corrosive agent embedded in them? Do they cause cancer (asking this as I light another cigarette)?
  3. tried modifying a UTG to fit mine. Someone else did here on the forums a while back. The other guys broke. Mine held but would not stay put when I attached a bi-pod to the bottom. The recoil moved it every time. I wish Ultimak would make one for the 308. Seems all they would have to do is make some new U-bolts because as far as I can tell the gas tubes are the same.
  4. and just broke the second tap in another rifle. Punch - Hammer - Whack - Shatter method works good, definitely getting the technique down. Dunno what's wrong with me, haven't broken a tap in years. Guess I need a break; gonna go download some porn me thinks.....
  5. Just broke one off flush in the trunion. Whacked it twice with hammer and punch and it shattered. Fell right out. Chased the threads with new tap and it works fine! Someone write a good sticky on this. I was on ebay looking for tap extractors when I decided to come back here and do a quick search.
  6. thanks for the quick replies guys!
  7. IMHO anything fired from a rifle is going to go through sheet rock like a knife through hot butter. Maybe some of the afore mentioned "Air Marshall" super uber rabid pirate ninja stuff might be what you're looking for. Let's be honest though, if it doesn't penetrate a couple panels of sheet rock, what's it gonna do to a goblin wearing a leather jacket? My advice is if you live in an apartment with neighbors everywhere, a shotgun may be more appropriate, though buckshot penetrates a good bit too. If you don't have a neighbor factor, I would choose some good softpoint hunting ammo and be awa
  8. Who makes a quality (though reasonably priced)low rise side mount that has them in stock? I want one that will hold zero after removal. I'm abandoning my Saiga scout idea.
  9. One question, when did Saiga 308s start shipping with threaded bbls in the first place. I'm guessing the reason this TOOL welded the break on to begin with is because he wanted a muzzle break on it and didn't want to take the time to move the FSB back and thread the barrel. He butted that break up against the crown and welded it to the barrel, crooked as fuck, so his welding skills can't be that good to begin with. I would bet good money that rifle will have to be recrowned at the very least. No telling what damage he did to the rifle with all that heat. The best thing to do for that rifle
  10. Heavily modded UTG forarm (I don't trust it) Dinzag's front handguard retainer (The man is a genius) Tapco Pistol Grip - OD Green Tapco composite T6 tube (canabalized it off an old T6 stock) Command Arms T6 stock - OD Green Command Arms Adjustable Cheek Piece (Very Impressed with this) UTG Rail Covers - OD Green 5 Russian "8 round" mags with 10 round modification Planned Future Mods: Ace Receiver Block - No Tang Cut (aquired) AR Buffer Tube for CAA Stock to slide on (aquired) Ace Hinge Ace Adapter for AR buffer tube. Need a good Magazine Bag! Sorry, Edited to add: Simmons V
  11. The problem I had with my UTG modded for a 308 is recoil. The UTG rail clamps down around the gas tube and barrel. When I attached a bipod to the bottom of the quad rail and shot about 5 rounds, the recoil from the rifle acting against the bipod put pressure on the quad rail forcing it forward and broke the spot weld on the upper handguard retainer on the gas tube thus moving the whole contraption forward. (note this was not a standard Saiga gas tube. The Saiga gas tube has a heat shield on it and had to be replaced with a rommy gastube for the quad to fit) I had a friend re-weld it for me
  12. Thank you for the pics. i think I will end up going with that mount. How hard is it to remove the scope? Do you need and allen wrench and does it really hold zero when you replace it?
  13. Can you post pics of the rifle and the mount? I too made a scout out of mine but I'm not happy with the forend. I heavily moded a UTG quad rail and I just dont trust it.
