  1. Like any prejudice, it's learned. With the way the world is going, many libs are going to come running to us to protect them. They're going to wish they knew how to use a gun when reality strikes. The world abhors academic, utpian thinking.
  2. Hey Guys: I finally got a break from work and got my scope mounted onto my Savage 10 FCP-K at my LGS. Can't wait to zero it in. I'll be the last to claim I "know" rifles as well as most of you. I've simply been impressed with what Savage has been producing lately. However, I really don't understand their designation system for different models. Seems like there are a jillion Savage Model 10s. I am wondering what is the Savage Model 10 FCP-K's reputation. Mine is a .308. I put an SWFA 12x42 MRAD scope on it, I have a Dark Eagle 10-round magazine, and a bipod. The Accu-trigger is nic
  3. Well .... I have told folks that with regards to pop culture we need more "Gunsmoke" and "Rawhide", and less "Will & Grace." We need to stop stigmatizing all the masculine things the left fears - like guns.
  4. At Indy: Hey .... what I'm getting at is we need real leaders who act in an assertive masculine manner whether they be physically male or female. Mentally and culturally the left acts in a feminine way. For what it's worth, I've heard a woman on TV call Dems. the "mommy party" and Repubs. the "Daddy party." To try to illustrate, Carter is a "feminine" leader compared to Reagan who was a "masculine" leader. Or .... Margaret Thatcher was a "masculine" leader compared to Obama or Harry Reid or Pelosi. I did not say Thatcher was once our President. I use her as an example of the type of leader Wes
  5. I thought the 2008 election was a big sham. Perhaps I'm a bit more perceptive than those who voted for Obama, but I thought he simply was not qualified for the job. Also, the way Axelrod used propaganda on steroids and used a messianic portrayal of Obama had shades of Goebbels. I thought it was 1930s Germany and half expected "Triumph of the Will 2" to show in theaters. This, combined with how many confuse charisma with leadership, was scary to see happen in our country. I am not a "gun nut" in the stereotypical sense, nor am I a survival expert or trained soldier. However, I long for such
  6. Hey Guys: I have a good rifle. Now I'm trying to learn how to carry it. I want a backpack that allows you to carry your rifle at the same time. The only brand I know of is called Eberlestock. They make "Gunrunner" and "Gunslinger" models. Some are called X1 and X2 also I think. Any opinions as to which pack is best for carrying a Savage 10 FCP-K on your back? The only difference I can see is various models have different capacities for the conventional backpack part itself. I'm not familiar with packing/hiking gear. I just want to be prepared. Thanks.
  7. Hello: I simply do not understand the .22 famine, but I was wondering if you guys think maybe it's starting to come back. I've seen more .22 LR at local Academy stores, but it's still kept behind the counter. I got two 200 rd. bricks of CCI .22 Mag at Cabelas today. That's the first .22 Magnum ammo I've seen in half a year. I abused my checkbook and bought as much as I could today along with more .308 too. I really do hope .22 is finally returning. I want to do some shooting with my nephew. I also have a new Savage 93 FV to put a scope on and try out.
  8. Hey Guys: AK Monty's post reminded me to finally ask all of you for opinions about my 1911 .45 ACP. I've had a High Standard 1911 for several years and I've been very satisfied with it. It's been reliable as long as you don't get stupid and try to Hollywood rapid fire it. The interesting thing is I previously owned a "regular" parkerized Springfield 1911 (that I gave to a friend who joined the Marines) which was more expensive. However, I've experienced tighter groups with this High Standard 1911. The majority of the time I shoot Winchester 230 gr. FMJs. Lots of Federal ammo too. A
  9. Hey Guys: I have a Savage 10 FCP-K in .308. It has a 24" barrel I think. 26" at the most. I'll break it in with 150 gr. bullets, but I'm stocking up on 168 gr. match ammo whenever I find it. 500 yds. is pushing it for me. I've never shot more than 200 yds., but a sillohuette range next door has a 500 yd. target. I've seen video of this gun reaching 700 yds. with apparently no problem. I assume a heavier bullet is needed for longer ranges. I've no doubt this rifle is a tack driver at 100 - 200 yd shots., but it supposedly is very capable at ranges I've never fired at before. For som
  10. Hello: I will be receiving a scope that can be used for long-range shooting. It's a fixed 12 x 42 SWFA MRAD scope. Neat scope. I want to get into long-range shooting and I found a place that has a 500 yd. range. I am wondering if I should sight this scope in at the usual 100 yards and use the lower dots for longer ranges. Or should I go ahead and sight-in at 500 yds. and use the upper dots for closer ranges and lower dots for even longer ranges. I'm just wondering which option is customary.
  11. Hello guys: I've been buying some match ammo lately and I have a question: what's the purpose of the tiny hole that's in the tip of match bullets? I'm the son of an aerospace engineer and I'm scratching my head. It seems like the regular pointed tips of other bullets are more streamlined and less drag inducing. Just wondering. I'm sure the tiny hole serves a purpose or else it wouldn't be there.
  12. Hello Everyone: I don't doubt this question might have already been asked, or it's something "everybody knows," but does anyone know how to replicate a Federal Gold Medal Match 168 gr. Sierra boat tail .308 cartridge? Obviously, it uses Sierra 168 gr. match boat tail bullets, but I don't know which powder is used (nor how much powder). what's the C.O.L.? I assume Federal primers are used too. I ask because I've recently entered the .308 world with the purchase of a Savage 10 FCP-K bolt-action rifle. It's a cool rifle capable of long-range shots. I get the impression that 168 gr.
  13. Hey there Tiger! Want to ask that girl out? Tired of being "friends?" Don't let social dysfunction get in your way! Get Teenagra! And ask your Doctor if you're healthy enough for dating. Teenagra stiffens your confidence and lasts through any movie. Use Teenagra to make her laugh with you - not at you. Teenagra might not be suitable for all geeks and nerds. Call your Doctor if you experience sweaty palms for more than four hours. Heavy use of Teenagra can cause bug eyes, distracted driving, frizzy hair, giggling, hives, munchies, shaking, sharing feelings, shoe shopping, slobbering
  14. Hey Guys: I decided to get a Savage 93 FV in .22 Magnum. Any scope recommendations? I don't think a NightForce is necessary in this case. Per some comments in Mike Roger's prior post regarding MidwayUSA, I feel guilty having gotten it from Cheaper Than Dirt, but no LGS had it. Sorry. It seems like a neat little rifle that's good to at least 100 yds. for small game and target shooting. Now if I can just find some .22 WMR ammo somewhere. I am willing to pay LGS ammo prices to help. I've been buying IMR powders from them. Anyway ... does anyone here have experience w
  15. Hey Guys: I assume many of you shoot .308 rifles too - maybe Saiga .308s. I am wondering if I am correct in thinking 168 gr. bullets are good at least to 500-600 yd. ranges. If you are trying to go 1,000 yds., you need 175-180 gr. bullets. Of course, 150 gr. bullets are good up to 300 yds. maybe? Just wondering. I keep hearing folks talk about 168 gr. and 175 gr. bullets for .308 cartridges. It leaves me wondering why 150 gr. .308 cartridges are available.
  16. Hey Guys: My adventure with my new Savage 10 FCP-K continues. It's been a decade since I mounted a scope onto a rifle. So ... I've forgotten many pertinent details. My Savage 10 has the round "bridge" at either end of the chamber. I've noticed one can buy single- piece or two-piece bases for your rings. Which is better (if any difference)? How do you know if you need small, medium, or large rings? I'll be getting a scope with a 42 mm front and a 30 mm tube. I want to get into long range shooting. Are certain brands of scope bases & rings better than others? I suppose you can't
  17. Hello Gentlemen: I want to begin learning long range shooting (at least 500 yds.) and I need an explanation about the difference between two styles of "mil-scopes." I am on a budget, and I've learned about SWFA scopes. They seem to be more than enough for my purposes, but don't cost as much as Leupolds. Interestingly, they were developed for a Navy contract. http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-Scopes-C1719.aspx What is the difference between MOA and MRAD scopes? Obviously, the reticles are different. How are they functionally different? I am wondering which style is easier for a newbie like m
  18. Hello Everyone: I finally got to visit the range last weekend after a long absence. Got familiarized with a .44 Magnum lever rifle. I thought I knew something about guns until a couple of guys showed-up with Accuracy International rifles and I got to talking with them about their guns' specifications, and their hand-loads. I don't think anything except match bullets go through their barrels. We're talking about at least $4,000 rifles. I often see guys with tripped-out customized AR-10s and AR- 15s too. It seems like you're really "somebody" if you have a NightForce scope on your rifle.
  19. Hey guys: Can the Savage 10 BA 10-round magazine be used in the Savage 10 FCP-K to replace the flush 4-round magazine? Both are .308 rifles. It sure is an expensive magazine, but it'd simply look cool having an "M-14" style magazine hanging from my gun. Of course, having 10-rounds would mean fewer reloading interruptions when sighting-in my rifle. I'm just not familiar with Savage accessories. I'm just happy to have found my FCP-K in .308 because they seem to be getting rare. I've heard good things about it. However, it might take a year for me to afford a proper scope. Thank
  20. Amendment: my rifle came with a flush detachable magazine. Can it hold one like the SR's magazine that's "M-14" style?
  21. Hey Guys: I found one of these and decided to get it since they're apparently getting rare. I've heard good things about this rifle. Mine is .308 caliber. My initial questions is: is this supposed to come with a box magazine or is that an aftermarket item? I've seen pictures of it with a box magazine, but my rifle didn't come with one from a local store. My second questions is: does this rifle prefer a certain kind of bullet and powder combination? The manual says it was tested with 168 gr. bullets. Which brand? Which type? FMJ or hallow point match? My third question is
  22. Hey guys: I work two part-time jobs in the medical field (thanks a lot obama). I shoot x-rays and I've gotten to see what kind of damage bullets can do to folks. It's impressive from a medical point of view. I actually rarely see gunshot victims, but a few stand out in my mind. I've seen a shoulder that got hit by a .44 Magnum. Frankly, the guy was lucky to still have an arm, but his shoulder looked severely prematurely arthritic with parts of the jacket embedded all over the joint like glitter on steroids. I've helped tend to a bad guy who had also had his shoulder hit, but with
  23. Hey guys: I don't mean to sound like I've been living under a rock, but I've only recently learned about this rifle. I'd like to get one in .308 caliber. I can't find one new at the on-line folks I know unless it has had some super-duper ultra macho scope added to it already. Just wondering. I assume you know more places to shop than I do. Thanks.
  24. Guys .... I am not a veteran, but my Dad was a Marine fixed and rotary wing pilot and my Grandfather was a U.S.A.A.F. bomber pilot who flew at Midway so I humbly hope that gives me some "credit" with all of you in some way. It seems to be the societal "elephant in the room" emanating from the political left/Obama administration with the VA, gay "rights", etcetera is narcissism - pure and simple. If we could rid America of narcissism things will get better. Those currently in control seem to have an "it's about me" attitude about everything as opposed to honestly being concerned about o
  25. I'm just an x-ray tech at a small, long-term care hospital. I don't do x-rays all the time so I help the nurses as much as I can. There have been moments when I've seen patients during, and then after, their last moments - often without family present. I'm still sort of young and such stuff makes me realize life IS short, the end waits for all of us, and you can't take your toys with you. I want to get married, but I'm no "Don Juan" who's mastered the art of flirting, so I make it a point to simply abide by the golden rule because you never know when you'll encounter someone again. It happ
