Confirmed... Optic Rail Not Useless after all! <edit>
DresNightfire replied to Cobra 76 two's topic in Vepr-12
The entire purpose and design of the AK platform is to expand and contract (that is why it uses rivets instead of screws in the receiver), allowing and enduring sloppy operations in harsh conditions. Will the JTE shotgun performance guide rod fix this problem? Here's the description of it from CSS: CSS - JTE shotgun performance guide rod: -

My VEPR's LRBHO works 100% of the time with Russian magazines. In my experience so far, It has worked zero times with SGM's - Do I need to do something to the SGM's to prevent the follower from sticking? -
Any problems with RAM Ext Mag Release in VEPR 12?

Did you file down the top of the RAM mag catch? It's longer than the factory mag catch. -
Any problems with RAM Ext Mag Release in VEPR 12?

Oh, I read it. I seem to be having trouble finding the "right spot" for the spring on the receiver side... This may help you out, I removed and reinstalled the RAM release (in order to file down the end to match the length of factory mag release tab as my mags weren't seating properly and my empty magazines were not falling out of the magwell on their own, so this fixed it). Try to use this as a guide for your installation with the magwell (I hope this helps): *work on a table top with plenty of light you can see the installation pin from each side 1) With the spring and installa -
Could a possible mod to the mag release help this? Or try removing the magwell and mag release and reassembling it.

I looked at it and I guess you could say that. Its not really a button I ever use so yes and no. You could trim a small amount off of the left/right side of it to have better access but its nothing moving the latch forward with your finger wont fix. It doesn't make it inoperable. I use this button all the time, especially when doing chamber checks and keeping the bolt locked back when the magazine is not inserted. I typically rack the bolt back with my thumb, and press the BHO button with my middle finger to engage the BHO. It's required by the range officer at the range, and I typically -
I almost got one during it's first release, but was very disappointed with it's unibody frame as there were no customizations available at that time, after converting the MKA 1919 to a collapsible/foldable stock and mid-length rail with the left-side charging handle, it seems like a winner. The owner of Firebird Precision understood about magazine demand, so they made a mag extender kit that let you take SGM Saiga 12 10-Round/12-Round Mags and use it in conjunction with MKA 1919 5-rounder mags (15-17 round mags!). I do really wish Molot USA cares more about it's VEPR 12 owners and produces mor

It's that damned first long rivet, and I'm still not convinced that neither the VEPR 12 nor the Saiga 12 030 needs it. It's the culprit to causing bolt carrier rubbing friction, i.e. slowing down the cycling speed and rate of the carrier. I have asked this before but received NO answer... Will the CSS aluminum rail or the Performance guide rod allow us to run our gun without the first long rivet? -
I tested two 10 rounders this past Sunday morning (shooting clay) and one jumped out of the magwell once (after firing one with only two rounds loaded). LRBHO did not engage on both mags for me after shooting two rounds in each. What is the proper break-in procedure for these mags?

Besides Bonesteel, how are you attaching other stocks?
DresNightfire replied to TheGerman's topic in Vepr-12
Cut off rear tang, CSS receiver block adapter, ACE Folding AR Stock Adapter -
I've written about this is multiple threads about the load weights for the VEPR 12 as they should be no less than 1 oz. The best ammo guideline for the VEPR 12 is looking at the 12 gauge Wolf Ammo chart for 2 3/4" shells here: http://www.wolfammo.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4&Itemid=15 I've compiled the 12 gauge 2 2/3" shells for your reference: http://www.doitdarith.com/temp/vepr12/wolfammo12gaugevepr12.html

What are the proper steps for the SGM VEPR 12 Magazine break-in process? I've sanded/filed down the lips already, but had an embarrassing experience in front of a lot of shooters today with the mag jumping out when shooting clay (the LRBHO has not been working for me as well, but it does work when inserting an empty magazine).

Yes, a shortened barrel will need gas port reliability work done to it. The ports will need to be widened depending on how much you chop off, and it's the gunsmiths' responsibility to test for functionality.
-
I've beet shooting 100% reliability with 1290 and 1300 fps. Today, I shot a box of 1145 fps Federal Target and had only one FTE.

Texas Shooters Supply sells their modified Tapco G2 (they modify and sandblast theirs) specifically for the VEPR 12, and I have had zero issues since the install (it took me 15 minutes to install it in my car). Place an order online for it, they tend to sell out quickly but try to put out new ones every week. Your experience was the same as mine with the stock trigger. Problem solved and you will have 3 additional 922r compliance parts as well.

Remember this video that was removed?

Correct. VEPR 12 Mags and Saiga 12 030 Mags are compatible.

There are no screws involved. Looks like you need to remove the retaining plate out of the way first (on the left inside wall). I used my pocket knife to pry it away from the wall and then use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull it out. Let me know if you have any luck.
-
I upgraded my trigger to a lighter Texas Shooter's Supply Tapco G2, so I'll let you know how it goes next time I'm at the range with the target and birdshot loads. The Russian IPSC mods also included a lighter recoil spring and a different puc.

I tested this out a week ago, it does not fold completely (unlike the ACE folding mechanism) because the magwell gets in the way of it folding completely: Also, I was not completely satisfied how the ACS-L looks with the VEPR 12, so I got rid of it. (I just stuck to the STR - looks much better.)
