  1. considering that I had 20 minutes to submit the photo, I think my tossing of everthing on the floor turned out better than it could have!

And yes, I'm asking for votes. I want to win 3 free suppressors. Who wouldn't? There are a lot of great photos in the contest - if I had known about this sooner, I would have gotten everything together and taken it out on my boat, anchored in some super scenic bay with mountains and a morning fog, then placed everything on the back deck in a well thought out and organized way. And had a hottie in a bikini! LOL

In reality, I did my weekly check of my spam filter, and found the email about the contest. I had to submit the photo in the next 20 minutes, so what I got is what I got. Quite frankly, I'm very surprised to be in the finals (they said they had hundreds of entries)... maybe it was adding the cigars, or the booze, or the fact that I have a pack and food for my dog to go with me. Dunno, but I'm doing what I can to win.

  2. I need your help... my photo is in the SilencerCo 'Living in the Red' contest, and I need your vote! I'm a longshot, the underdog, the fat kid to be picked last! SilencerCo has a contest, for 'bugout bags and readiness'. I put mine in, with a few 'fun' additions (and subtractions), and lo and behold my photo was one of around 80 to be picked. Now it's up to Internet voting to pick the winner(s). Help me win!!!

    Here is the link: http://www.silencerco.com/living-in-the-red/?mc_cid=14d9c7497e&mc_eid=54fea7193e

And there is no good way to tell you which photo is mine - their position changes as votes are cast. You have to find it by the name - hold your mouse over the images until you find bugout(1) and that'll be mine. Here is a direct link to the image so you know what to look for and make it faster/easier to find: http://www.silencerco.com/wp-content/gallery/living-in-the-red/bugout1.jpg

Pass this request to any and all!! I need votes!!!! You can vote once a day, for a week. If I win, come up and go fishing with me and we'll take the suppressors with us for some fun!

Of course, if YOUR photo is in the contest, you can still vote for me... [biggrin.png]

BTW, I was allowed to enter 3 photos, the other 2 of which had either my Saiga12 or 7.62 but they picked the AR... go figure.

  3. Dumbass... it was pretty obvious he saw it at a distance and still advanced on the moose. I ride a lot, and have damn near ran over/into moose on a few occasion coming around a blind corner. They usually run when you get too close if you are at speed... I wonder if he had just kept running, would it have ended differently. But, he stopped, got it's attention then advanced. Textbook on what NOT to do... in 40+ years up here, never had to shoot a moose I did not want in my freezer (prefer caribou anyways...)

Lots of posts on this all over the internet... and a LOT of people are slapping the guy on the back. Sad... just because you carry a gun does not mean you have to switch your brain off. It's the best thing going for you. This could have been handled much better.

  4. So Efrom is mainly for corps. entitys. and Trusts? cant file Eform if you are an individual and need fingerprint cards, LEO signature, etc.

To file this form electronically, the maker must be a legal entity, such as a corporation or trust, where fingerprints, photographs, or the Law Enforcement Certification are not required, or a State or local government agency.

Correct... and the Class III dealer does the submitting UNLESS it is a Form1 - I did my own Form1 and dealer did my Form4.

Also... he told me today, that you can actually cancel a paper form4, get a refund started and re-file as eForm4. I do not think that is common knowledge,as my dealer said he ha dtalked to the NFA branch about that and they were not very happy with that but it was allowed.

  5. eForm is the way... 3 months from filing to approval for both an SBR and suppressor - both submitted 9/30/13 and both approved on 1/14/14

I have 2 form4's mailed in the same dates, and my dealer told me I can cacel them then re-file eForm form4's...  not sure if I want to do that, but if they come back in 3 months I'll be 3-4 months ahead of the game.

  6. Got mine today - thanks, but I have to say that due to some health issues at home I have not been active in any way, shape, or form here, or anywhere regarding shooting. I need to apologize for that as I have really done nothing to help with the testing of these mags. Hell, have not opened my gunsafe in about 2 months. I'll have to catch up on the postings and see what I can do. Trust me... I have GOT to get to range to blow off some steam and de-stress. At least now I have a good reason to 'go play with my guns' as the wife calls it.

  7. yeah, any BCG should be good. I like to stay with the ones I know... Colt, BCM, so on. Really, as long as they are C158 bolts and properly staked gas keys I'm happy. That said, I have the stuff to stake my own so really it's just the material that concerns me.

As far as the buffers, I like to go as heavy as my rifle will run reliably. Slows down the cycling, and reduces any problems... to a point. Too heavy an you induce more problems. I've switched all my AR's over to Vltor A5 systems, they seem to run so much better, smoother, and slightly slower cycling.

I do headspace  any rifle that I change barrels or bolts in, just to be safe. I know some guys that haven't and have no problems, but on the other hand I have seen the results of NOT headspacing, and I don't want to be on the receiving end of that fiasco.

The only realy way to know if the buffer spring/buffer/BCG combo works is to shoot it. It took a few tries with different buffers to get mine dialed in, but not that I have... it shoots so damn nice it's scary.

but then I takemy S308 out and forget I have an AR...

    and this

    http://www.wtsp.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=2654049258001

Dude in the first vid was found 1/2 mile down the road, dead as hell, with his three kids in the car! (all ok) Cop was shot in the side but survived. Surprised no one in the lead car in the second vid was hit... lots of glass flying before they stopped. Could not pay me enough to be a cop... I can predict fire a WHOLE lot more than people.

  9. Sorry for the lapse... life came crashing down around my head the last week or so.

I haven't had much time to play, but should start having more this weekend. NetPackrat, I'd have no problem meeting up if we can find a time to do so. Altho I really doubt it's my S12.... I can re-create my issue without my S12 anywhere near the magazine. I'll see if I can do a quick video showing that, but I will say the more I use it the less it happens. So I really think my mag had a burr or other tight spot that caused this and it's wearing down/loosening up some.

  10. well crap... I have been posting in the other thread... didn't pay attention to this one- sorry.

Got back from the range just now. Did the feed lips, and *seems* to be better. Put the spring and follower from an Izzy 8rd mag in and it runs flawless. Tried with the spring and metal follower and seemed to work much better. Just trying other things to see what differences there are.

Unfortunately, I had someone with me that needed watching, and the range was PACKED with people, so didn't get the time I really wanted to put a bunch of rounds downrange. I'm going to try hand cycling tonight, and with luck, I can get out to the range again in the next couple of days.

  11. Made the mod to the feed lips, but it does not help my situation. Look at the first pic I posted, the round stops advancing up before it even gets to the lips. Something is causing it to bind... I sanded the back area with no luck, and I can make it happen almost every time by pushing on the round as it advances up. I have a couple of the Izzy 8round mags, so I took one apart and used the spring in the metal mag and it helped quite a bit, but when I put the Izzy follower in it seems to work flawless. I looked in the mag and I do not see anything obvious that might be the problem, so I'm going to hit the range again today if I can, tomorrow without a doubt and put some more rounds thru it to verify all this.

  12. Also have shot one a buddy has, and LOVE it. very little muzzle rise - much MUCH better than my .308 (duh) and at least as good, if not better, than my .223. Like it so much I am putting one together myself from the ground up - already have 2k brass ready for reloading. Also read somewhere a number of 3gun people are going to it, since a mere scrape on a target will trigger a hit, vs a .223 that will not. But since I believe everything I read on the Intertubes, I have no reason to doubt that :)

Oh... and mine will be a SBR, most likely in the 10" range.
