  1. Yes, I felt it was a biased review and sells the V12 short.

Although I have had mine only a short time, I'm amazed at the out of the box usability.

Mine loves Federal bulk pack on up to 1800 fps slugs. Less than 200 rounds so far but no FTF or FTE's to date.

My father has a MKA 1919 and I prefer the V12 over it or my modified S12 that took a huge amount of work and money to make it usable.

  2. Hey guys,

First I'm happy to say I gave in and got a V12.

Second, this shotgun IS much smoother than my Saiga out of the box and happy to say it has run with all that I have to feed it.

    Now for the BHO,

I have seen reviews that complain that you have to have a empty mag in the weapon to operate the BHO.

I have looked but not seen anyone talk about this function in this forum (or missed it).

Clearly the release @ the trigger works well and I'm surprised at the ease of operating it.

Maybe I'm just behind the power curve but I have found how to operate the bolt hold open when the mag is not in the weapon and found it to be fairly easy to do.

Is anyone else familiar with this?

By simply pushing in on the button directly behind the mag release you can lock the bolt open without a mag inserted.

Just thought I would share this in case someone was not familiar with it..

  3. CTD also offered the factory 10 round magazine for $59.97 at the same time as the shotgun for 599.00

I had already purchased the shotgun (XN) and it shoots like a dream, straight out of the box.

Sure wish I could get some of the 10 round factory mags for the 59.97.........how about it Atlantic??

I'll be first in line for some!!!

Still have the email flier to prove the price

  4. I want a Free conversion,

We are celebrating by invoking a recreation of the battle for freedom in this country and hope that this battle does not have to be repeated!!!

STAND STRONG AMERICANS, DONT BE FOOLED.

    FREEDOM IS NEVER FREE

Ribeye steaks, Cool refreshments, fantastic company, AND a real display of arms in America shoot, this includes among others....

My first Saiga 12 with tac47 accessories and second unconverted S-12 with everyone wanting to have one converted just like the first!!

  5. SELLING DUE TO CONVERSION:

I actually have 5 flat dark earth (TAN) 10 round AGP magazines for S-12. These are Gen 2 mags

3 are new, never put in a gun

2 used (only 50 rounds) and is like new condition with only minor marks from receiver on them. No mods to either mag (They were used after gas port mod to test operation, shot 100 round federal bulk pack with the 2)

I purchased these and then decided to go with a magwell, and these cannot be modified to fit.

Would like to sell or trade for SGM magazines in like condition.

will sell all 5 for $140.00 includes shipping or make offer

I accept Postal money order/ money order/ (paypal add 3%)

I do not have a seller rating here, but check my E-Bay rating under the same user name. I do stand behind what I sell and list items accurately.

PM me for pictures if needed

  6. Just got the rail today Cameron,

Nice workmanship, if only the S-12 was done as slick!!!

I had to do some fitting of the rail to the gas block, the rail wanted to twist and angled down hill at the muzzle. After some machine work to the gas block, she fits great!

time to test fire with the rail on and then take her apart for paint!!

    Chaos

  7. What tube are you using for the MOE?

I have a CTR and waiting on the TITAN.

My Tube is the CAA aluminum and I know I will need a riser. would be good info for me too!\

And GF does have alot of good ideas and help around here!!

  8. Thanks for all the help and the welcome,

As I have read, studied, and explored. I have found that my gun to which appeared to be a 3 port has actually turned into a 4 port gas system. Removed the gas block, modified the opening and after trouble shooting a problem have it working like a champ!

if you are interested in the problem encountered, see the end of this post

  9. Folow up:

took her out to the range today, was quite excited to test her out with all 4 ports showing and expecting a great run. NOPE, didn't happen. matter of fact it was much worse!

Would not feed the same ammo that she was feeding when shoulder firing prior to this mod.

Decided it was time to figue out what the @#%@# was going on.

    my proceedures to diagnose:

    1) check bolt travel when firing: found it was only half of normal stroke. WHY?

    2) checked ejection by hand: seemed normal, but stiff. Took time to grease all contact points including bolt locking lugs, bolt rails, bolt and carrier bore, contact area of hammer. (new gun)

    3) checked ejection by hand again, felt smoother so I test fired: shell caught on barrel shroud. (some improvement)

    4) Removed extended bolt-on charging handle (to reduce bolt mass and reduce gas needed to accellerate bolt), tested: every 2nd round FTE

    5) Removed gas plug and piston: checked for fouling of any kind, none found. ran gas plug in until seated and only 10 degrees trun to lock into setting 2 (factory plug)

    6) loaded one round, removed magazine and test fired: ejected case about 3 feet from gun. Although ejection was complete it should have done so with more distance (I think). Obviously there is a lot of friction between bolt and next round. just seem to be short on gas.

    7) Removed foregrip and inspected gas block for signs of leakage: only indication was from gas vent hole.

    8) removed gas plug and piston and inspected op rod alignment in gas tube: seem to be slightly off center.( Closer to barrel in gas tube) I'm being very critical of alignment when I say slightly.

Began to wonder if gas block was not truly aligned even though gas block pins matched barrel grooves well. Using plastic hammer and 8 ounce hammer I installed gas plug until seated, placed plastic hammer against plug and set the 8 ounce in motion..I noticed the slight misalignment seem to disapear after removal of the gas plug.

I put her back together, loaded one round and removed the magazine.......ejected the case about 9 feet from gun. shot the next round with mag in and ejection was complete with the case landing about 8 feet from the gun.

The next 150 rounds went off with no FTE's and all cases landing 7-8 feet from gun with a large upward arch.....SWEET

    Summary:

I think the issue was: the gas block was slighlty mismatched (even though the retaining pins went in ok) causing some binding of the piston and/or op rod in the gas tube!!

  10. I have had my s12 for a short time now, have been out to shoot it once with some 180 rounds with 130 being 00 buck and slug. then changed to low brass Remington #8, to my supprise it shot the low brass pretty good unless the weapon was shot from the hip. I have read many posts on FTE and after reading this one I started looking at my ports, I could see 3 with one close to the edge of the gas block hole from what I could see, decided to trully look it over by pulling the gas block off. With a 90 dgree scribe I carefully marked the gas block hole opening onto the barrel and removed the block.

Much to my supprise when I looked at the barrel, the gun is NOT a 3 port, but is actually a 4 port with the port closest to the muzzel being covered by the block. After examining my scribe mark of where the gas block hole rests I discovered the port on the ejector side was covered 30% by the block, I could not see this before removal.

I used the scribe mark and measured how much material had to be removed to expose each port and transfered that to the gas block.

4 ports now fully exposed.....off to the range in the morning. will do follow-up report.

    Good article and pics

  11. @Gunfun,

Thanks for the good info, the weld work to the back of the disconnector will be done when I do the conversion and I will follow the other suggestions as well. I had seen that input about the disconnector from you in another post, you seem to be very helpful on this forum!! Thanks alot

    @Corbin,

Nice video, It has opened my eyes to one very obvious thing ( at least for the experienced). The safety really is a shorter stroke than the markings indicate, I removed my dust cover and have found what is really needed for good clearance between the safety and disconnector in the fire position. I now have additional plans for the conversion !!!

    @Caged,

Yep, as I have picked up on, the Autoplug won't cure a gas problem. I am looking into that issue to see if I have some irregular ports.

Also looking at the CSS puck, as I have read, it moves the puck closer to the gas ports, effectively increasing the pressure stroke lenght / time and should create a little more bolt & carrier speed.

I will be sending bolt, carrier, FCG to Pauly for his magic. I bet that issue will be resolved after these improvements!

    @ preparehandbook,

I had thought of a slight bevel on the upper edge. I will be welding holes for my conversion, so refinishing will be completed after all work, that makes any alteration affecting finish irrelevant. I will be following Gunfun's suggestions and will adopt what Corbin has done as well.

Thanks for all the valuble input !!
