  1. I finally got it where I want it. I lapped the rings. Then I put an aluminum shim under the base of the rear ring. That way the scope isn't parallel with the barrel but pointing down forward a degree or two. Sighted it in then shot groups in 25 yrd increments from 25 to 150. They all grouped right where they are supposed to. I don't know for sure which thing I did helped the most, but its fixed. I love this rifle again!
  2. I hate to revive an old thread, but I can't seem to figure out my problem yet. I got a new scope mount, thats lower to the bore, and a new scope. I put the rifle in a vise and made sure the barrel, mount, and scope were all level with each other. Started off at 25 yards to get on paper, and within a few shots got it where I wanted it. So then to 50, where I wanted my zero to be. Few more shots then I was right on, and thought everything was great. Then out to 100 yards where acording to Siera Infinity should be a little under an inch high. Three rounds later, and I'm 11inches high.
  3. Everybody I use is out of stock and backordered. An old standby pawn shop that normaly carries it only had 5 boxes, and 2 months ago they were 5.99 a piece now they're 15.99. What gives?
  4. I think I figured it out. I was playing with Winchesters ballistic calculator. Guess I underestimated the difference in a scope mounted 1.5" above the barrel and one almost 3". Now I think I'll toss this tall mount, and look for a shorter one.
  5. Ok, I'll remove the shims, and start over. I was shooting at four pieces of 8x11 paper. So the whole thing was around 22x16. I thought that at a 25 yrd zero should be about 3.5" high at 100 yrds. That's about how it worked out with my iron sights.
  6. I got a Promag side mount for my 7.62. It sets a bit high, but guess that'll let you use the irons if ya wanted. I had to shim it a bit to get it centered with the barrel but, after that seemed pretty solid. I threw on an old scope from my 30-06, and went to find out what it'll do. Started off just like I did with the iron sights at 25 yrds. After a few rounds It would group just a little over a quarter sized hole. So I moved to 50 yrds. Not even on the paper, and so far off I couldn't tell if I was high or low. I tried 100 yrds with the same results. With just the irons I can kee
  7. I messed with my rifle for about an hour the other day trying to move that fsb, and I was having no luck at all. Or so I thought. Since I was gonna have to cut the old base off and buy a new one anyways I'd try one last thing. I wraped the fsb in a rag and put it in a vice. Then put a rag on the jaws of a 24" pipewrench and got a bite on the bottom of the rear sight base. This will either move it, or break it I thought. Put a few lbs on the wrench and I could feel just a little bit of give somewhere in the gun, but with all the rags I didn't see where. Looked it all over and saw that
  8. Thanks for idea guys. I totally overlooked that. I'll try it before I break out the pipewrench.
  9. I've got a canted fsb on a dimpled saiga 7.62. I drilled out where the dimples were to try and tweak the base straight, but this thing doesn't wanna move. I've got the thing soaking in penetrating oil and I plan to put it in a vice and put a 24" on it. Will this work or will I just trash the base? I'm a tightwad and I'd like to keep from buying a new one. I figure if I can move it I'll tack it back solid, cause I've got no desire to thread the barrel. Anybody thats done this before and might offer some pointers would be greatly appreciated.
