  1. my 5.45 mics out right about .571 i think that is pretty standard, but id check with some of the more knowledgable guys on here first. but i believe you should be able to carefully cut that sleeve and thread or just take the whole block off and install a 74 fsb that has integral threads. thats what i did.
  2. ok well i turned the FSB journal on the barrel down 2hundreths of an inch, god bless belt sanders... got the handguard retainer mounted and fit nice and tight, as for the GB i dont have the tools or the patiance to open it up 4hundreths of an inch and didnt want to sand the barrel anymore so instead i cut the accessory lug of the 74 gasblock and welded it to the saiga GB and reinstalled it. so thanks for the elp and info she is all done now, well except for some kinda reddot anyways.
  3. i removed the block and added the third hole mine and slightly opened the manifold into the block but like i said it runs like a champ now so im happy and its fairly unique in that it has Kalishnikov on the side and I love it
  4. again Mancat much good info. thanks. like i said ive done several for myself and friends but this is first heavy barrel ive run into and as confident as i usually am I just didnt wanna F-it up. thanks again. guess i should work on my search-fu as well totally missed that post. thanks again.
  5. awesome guys thanks for the info. it was a 24" barrel.... i may have converted it already... it used to have the vent rib on top and 24" barrel. i must have gotten a lemon from that batch then as it only had 2 small ports. ive added a third and it runs like a champ now with everything. but yeah im not gonna give this one up. ever.
  6. I have a saiga 12 that i purchased approx 7 years ago and it says Kalishnikov under the ejection port where all the normal import junk is. i have never seen another S12 that says that. what gives? anybody else have same? I'm not complaining but im also never letting it go so dont ask.
  7. i am working on my 223 conversion and it seems that i have the heavier barrel it mics at .590 under the FSB but my bulgarian 74 fsb is .570 - .571. should i just ream the FSB 2 hundreths of an inch or try to find a bigger fsb? i have done other conversions but this is the first heavy barrel ive run into and i just have basic tools no mill or lathe. also the handgaurd retainer location has NO index slots or anything. my russian hand guard retainer will fit "just barely" if i grind out the alignment tabs inside it but wont that cause my handguard to possibly spin? I havent posted much but ive be
  8. i ran a HALO quad for a long time and it never caused the gun to malfunction, my only complaint was how much extra weight it ended up adding to the front end, made the gun very slow in fast target aquisition. i sold it off put the original handguards back on and now run an ultimak rail across the top with a burris fast fire II, it is super fast and light ad i love it. also have handled the surefire and tapco on buddies guns and both were fine and neve caused any issues, though the surefire is by far the more comfortable and better looking IMO.
