  1. Cobra,

I read this last night and I didn't even know how to respond (I was too tired and in shock over all of it). I didn't want to glaze over everything you have been through. Some people may feel my response below is excessive but ultimately, I talk to strangers the same way I talk to old friends and I wanted to write something personal. The tragedies you have been through are the same magnitude to your life whether I know you or not and that is why I wrote something more personal.

I don't know you at all but all I can say is that I have NEVER met anyone who has been through SO many tragedies (yet alone in the short time span they all happened) as you. I can not EVEN begin to imagine the fortitude, suffering, depression and mental torture of dealing with the health issues of you and Sandi (and her tragic loss as well) as well as the life altering aftermath of the Hurricane. The closest I can empathize is a very close friend of mine lost his amazing wife and two boys to a multi-repeat offending drunk driver. He said that a huge part of him died that day and he will never be the same. He loved them with all of his heart and I imagine you feel the same about Sandi. He also said a small part of him is the same but he had to get comfortable with the new "him" (the person he is without them) and he still battles with his own unfamiliarity every day.

The storm could have been the "last straw" for you but you are still fighting. Not many men would have that kind of fortitude and will and that probably comes from the part of you that survived Stage 3 Cancer (which again, i have NO idea what that was like). I don't have any comforting words for you to help you get through all of this (and you obviously didn't need them to get through). I have NO idea what it must be and feel like to actually survive everything that you have so any words of "optimism" or Hallmark Card-esque sayings would be pointless and borderline insulting.

I can say that I wholeheartedly respect and appreciate your genuine communication about all of it and the best thing I can do is give you my business, be patient and have full faith you will provide the same level of excellence and craftsmanship you built your great reputation on so that is what I am going to do.

I hope that this post provides future clients a commitment to work with you and help get your life back on track and your business expanding again. Focusing on your work is probably the best way to heal (pride, focus, and fulfillment) and serves as a great distraction to avoid getting lost in your head about the past (just speculation on my part).

I have a request that anyone who has thought about having work done recently please send it to Cobra as a gesture of Faith and contribution to him and you. I couldn't feel better about my decision to send it to you given everything you have been through.

I will "PM" you the particulars with a few questions and my cell number.

    God Bless,

    Patrick

  2. Hello!

I'm a novice and it has been years since I have been on. I was going to send my S12 to Pauly's but never did. I read the horror stories and I feel absolutely terrible for people who were caught in that massive scam.

As far as I can tell Cobra's Customs seems to be the only vendor still providing that work? I did not see any recent posts so I am not sure if he is still open for business or what his turn around time is. I don't trust myself or have the tools/time/knowledge for it. Basically, I was going to get the glass bolt service done from Pauly's (I plan on owning the S12 for life). I currently run it with a Kushnapup (fun at the range and bought it for home defense).

I would prefer to send the entire shotgun (less the Kushnapup on it of course) because I would like to the Bolt Hold Open option installed also - maybe some trigger work as well.

Any thoughts please would be appreciated!

  3. That looks awesome. Does the GK-01 work better with a shorter barrel?

No. It worked a little better when it was on the barrel at 19", but it was crazy long and nose-heavy. Losing the weight of 5.5" of barrel, 2.25" of op rod, moving the brake back 5.5", and moving the block back 2.25" made it feel like a completely different weapon. It was worth the small performance loss. Don't get me wrong, the brake still works great.

    ETA:

Almost forgot to mention, this brake pushes a very noticeable blast backwards when firing in a narrow indoor stall. It feels like someone is aiming a blow dryer directly in the face. I didn't notice it outside. I may need to amend my statement about using it on a bullpup. It might not be much fun.... and don't forget the eye pro'.

I'm not too worried about it.

My face is ~27" away from the gills of the GK-01. Given they are cut on ~45 degree angle I don't think I'm going to feel it outside. If anything I might feel it on my left forearm a little but no biggie.

Because you were in a stall, the exhaust bounced off of the walls and came right back in your face.

I went to the local range and I typically go to the patterning area but they closed it because some door knob was shooting a .22 there. Now it is only open to members (I'm not one). I have 100 shells of AA heavy target 7.5 shot. I'm going to *TRY* to talk to letting me rip it off.

  4. I dont wish to cut the tangs off my Saiga 12 but I'd like to get one of the KPUPs where are people getting the extended Buttstock Caps?

I "hogged" out the CSS pad.

When it came in the mail i was surprised because it felt a little firm on the shoulder. Then I took it to the range and was BLOWN AWAY with how comfortable it is!!!

There is a flat plastic plate that the rubber pad is mounted to. The flat plate is a PERFECT FIT on the inset of the K-pup butt stock. UTG did a superb job making this! It looks absolutely OEM and feels fantastic!

  5. video plz?

    Range report also

LOL! I'd settle for some pics of that with a nice looking flatbelly holding it. I already know how well it works wink.png

LOL!!!! My friend was in Maxim twice! She is smoking hot but she is 5 months pregnant now. LOL!

    video plz?

I'll see what I can do. I am VERY busy with work. Not sure when I'll get to a range next. If I do I'll get vids of before and after. I have some Winchester AA Heavy Target (1300 fps) shot I'll use. The closest range to me let's me use the patterning area to run rounds through the gun. Although I have to wait 1 second between discharges. :/
  6. Get that GK-01. I think it is going to be absolutely fine as long as you don't intend to fire from the hip (I hate that gay shit anyways, lol). The flash is relatively small on a full length barrel like yours, with or without the brake. I think the GK-01 is going to look and work great on your BP S12. Bear in mind that I do not advocate products or services that I do not wholeheartedly believe in. The GK-01 is a winner. It is extremely lightweight compared to other market offerings and offers a very noticeable recoil/muzzle rise reduction benefit. Post some pics and give your own impression of how well the brake works.

I hope you feel better. By the way, I have some in-laws in SE Michigan, near the pond wink.png

Ok ... almost back to normal after having the flu run through both my 10 year old then my 6 year old! UGH!

I'm going to buy it just for kicks. I'm not sure if I will leave it on for my HD set up (or if I should just leave the Polychoke II on set wide open).

    THANK YOU for your input!

I am VERY close to the "pond"! My brother lives right on the canal. The Great Lakes are amazing and the quantity of inland lakes is unbelievable! Also, it's nice to be 45 minutes away from Canada. :)

  7. Ok, I have a Kushnapup set up for HD (VERY cool pictures coming soon once I finalize the top pic mount).

Thanks to ALL of the wise and generous knowledge of the forum I now know it is not what you add, but what you remove and replace. 5 parts need to be replaced.

I want to buy an Izzy 8 round mag for the gun and be compliant. Here are my mods below:

Kushnapup stock counts for 2 parts (stock + forearm).

CSS performance puc = 1 part

    TAC 47 Autoplug = 1 part?

    Poly-choke II = 1 part

Is all of this accurate please?

    Thank you!

  8. Take a look at Sightmark. inexpensive and plenty good enough for a shotty.

    http://www.opticspla...ightmark/cat~20

or an enormous 1x40 Tasco like mine. XD

I just bought the Sightmark SM13001 and I'm VERY pleased with it! VERY small! Only two brightness settings but the second is VERY bright. I bought it from Gander Mountain on sale for $70 and paid $10 for a 2 year extended warranty (even due to accidents).

FYI - I also liked the Bushnell VERY much as a close second. The Bushnell is considerably larger. I bought the Sightmark micro dot for home defense and short range recreational shooting.

I might buy the Bushnell and compare them though on the range because I like the variable brightness and slightly larger viewing area.

  9. I've been following this stock since there were about 100 orders and I could have sworn they said it would work on a restored gun. Was about to order one but the site said will only work on unconverted guns. Is it true?

Yes. The trigger needs to be in the stock position.
  10. tactical light that I can mount to the front and right side of a Kushnapup stock.

    I bought a Laserlyte FSL-3

    http://www.laserlyte.com/products/fsl-3

It mounts VERY low to the pic rail.

I'm looking for something VERY light that will mount behind and above it. I don't mind paying for it.

I have not found a combo light and laser that is small that I like but I'm open. I bought the laser at Gander Mountain because it was on sale and the extended warranty is amazing!!!

Also, where is the best place to buy side pic rails for the Kush?

    Thoughts please?!

    :)

  11. Any Saiga can accept a drum as it is shipped from the factory, without modification. The seller did nothing except buy a drum mag, place the front of the mag in the well, and rock it back into the latch. He's trying to find someone who is unfamiliar with the Saiga and rip them off IMO. It would be inadvisable to put that drum in an S12 that doesn't meet 922. You risk running afoul of the law.

    2nd on what "mixednuttz" said.

The *ONLY* modification to get the drum mag to work would be a little bit of potential filing on the mag itself, not the gun. That is VERY common with all drum mags (a little filing to fit) because different model year Saiga's have slight inconsistencies.

Honestly, I'm a newbie here but I have learned a TON in the last month thanks to the boundless knowledge and selfless generosity of the Forum members who have spent their life's time to document, teach and give amazing advice!!! You have a bit of skepticism in your posts but I promise you, every person who has posted in this thread is spot on and you would be wise to take the advice that you asked for.

922r: What I know from the members here. It's not what you add, but what you remove and replace. You need to remove 5 russian made parts and replace with American made parts for mags larger than 5 rounds!!!

The magazines count as 3 parts

The butt stock and pistol grip combo count as 1 part because you only have to remove the Russian butt stock for that.

*** UNLESS HE HAS REPLACED THE FORE ARM, FLASH HIDER/BRAKE, PUC OR GAS PLUG HE IS STILL SHY 1 PART AND IN VIOLATION OF ATF 922r ***

To me, this dealer may be nice and very knowledgeable about many weapons but I feel he knows VERY little about the Saiga and it is a bit of an unusual animal. It is VERY easy to learn and work on. I bet a full 20 rounds of low brass Federal Wal-mart will not run through the drum with FTE's or possibly FTF's. *** IF *** it did, you might have a nice gun on your hands but not for $799. I'd work him down to $700 or $725 max.

I am only passing on what I have learned over the last month for what it's worth but I would listen to the advice.

  12. based upon the recommendation of a VERY helpful forum member. I'm THRILLED with the quality and operation and the price was VERY cheap! He was spot on!!!

My problem is I'm an architect and I can't get that oh so seXXXy image of an Izzy 8 round mag out of my head. I want to buy one but I can't justify spending more than $100. I mean, it's an 8 round mag for cripes sakes! When/how is the best time to buy one? Is it even possible for that price? Functionally, I think the Surefire has to be damn close. It's smooth as glass and is VERY well built. The Izzy, well, it's an Izzy. Paying for the mystique and name. Yes, I'm sure the function is amazing as well.

I don't need a ton of magazines. I have two Izzy 5's, I want to get an Izzy 8 and maybe a Pro-mag 12 round drum for fun. :)

I plan on the Saiga to run as a Kushnapup for HD but I like switching back and forth depending upon when I go out to shoot. I also have a UTG quad rail, Tapco fore arm and Phoenix Kick-lite stock (I have a bad right shoulder). It literally takes 10 minutes to completely swap the gun from one set up to another. I have a Tapco fore grip but I think I'm going to buy an AFG2 for kicks to try it.
