  1. Keep the 20". If you cut it back, just crown like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OorpZlG28fI No need for expensive reamers or tools
  2. What buttstock is that on fauxnight's gun?
  3. if you can't drill & tap, you shouldn't modify a firearm.
  4. excellent. Should make a beautiful and free Galil style charging handle
  5. yea, I already tried a magnet and it stuck reasonably well. Although some stainless steels have magnetic properties, so it's not the most accurate test. Thanks for the idea though.
  6. So I love the idea of a vertical charging handle, but i like to fabricate my own stuff. I recently replaced the factory gas piston with a Tapco one and I would like to make use of my old piston. Is the factory piston carbon steel or stainless? i've had it out for some time and no rust has formed so I assume it is stainless, but i can't tell 100%. Anybody know? If i can't use it for a vertical charging handle, does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap DIY version?
  7. yea, i'm making up for it with my USA Surefire mags (3 parts), USA handguards (1 part), USA Tapco G2 trigger (3 parts), and USA brake (1 part). Actually, If i get a USA gas piston I can start to use foreign mags too The CAA PG and buttstock are amazing. I'd highly recommend them
  8. Just put everything back together and got my new side rail on. I love the way my gun looks now. Just need 2 more things, a 74 brake and a lower handguard.
  9. Well, I haven't made it to the range yet, but good to hear that it works well. Can you post pics of your setup?
  10. When this arrived, it needed a ton of grinding to fit properly. I spent 2 hours grinding and fitting, grinding and fitting until it now fits perfectly. I plan to fabricate my own lower handguard to match since nobody makes one, but just wanted to show my progress. Yes, I know it needs paint too. This gun will also get an ak74 brake after I source the proper die. By the way, the stock lower handguard no longer fits with this gas tube in place. Here is the same gun before the gas tube and new sidemount. I have grown to agree with Tony that all the quad

  12. I bought one of these about a month ago and had the same problem. The paint on mine was extremely thin and upon first loading the mag and removing it, I was left with a nice pile-up of chipped off paint in the magwell. My solution: 1 can of Carb and Choke cleaner 1 can of primer 1 can of Rust-Oleum flat black textured paint The Carb and Choke cleaner will literally strip the paint right off of the mag once applied. Just make sure to thoroughly remove all traces of it before going on to the priming phase. I found a good wipedown with Windex works great to remove all trace surfactants
  13. yes. mainly because i want this adjustable cheek piece to make my red dot usable.
  14. That's right. It obviously won't increase you're foreign parts count, because it's US made. But it won't take away from the count either, because you're not replacing a factory Saiga (foreign) part, with a US made one. But you said you're also using the Tapco FCG, which is 3 US made parts, but you didn't add that into your 922r list at the bottom of your post. So with the FCG factored in, you're at 8 foreign parts, so you're good to go...............as long as you stick with US made mags.........but that mag doesn't look US made. The gun came with 2 surefire 30rd mags, and goo
