  1. "I have a Lyman .54 cal flintlock....I had more fun missing a deer with that then I did getting a deer with my 30-06... now if I would just stop that infamous "flintlock flinch" from happening" Yah Joe- Flintlocks are another whole set of things to deal with.
  2. I finally got out this past Sunday to shoot the Hawken. I have to say that I was a bit intimidated by a guy one point over that was shooting a more modern BP rifle. He was popping a 3" group @ 100yds and seemed pretty disappointed. I hadn't loaded a black powder rifle in my life. My experiance was 9 months working @ Colonial Williamsburg back in the mid 70's firing muskets with paper wads for tourists. I ambitiously started out @ 50 yds with no paper after 3 shots. Moved in to 25 yds- no paper. At 15 yds I had 4 shots touching @ 6 O'clock on the 7 ring. At this point the gun was pre

  4. That means that yours is smaller than mine? "my sagia 223 gun certifcate is 88mm " gunguy51
  5. My certificate said 108 mm. That puts it over 4"s. The first time out, while trying to zero my scope, I fired this group with Wolf FMJ ammo @ 100 yds. This is close to a 3" group. I think that I will do a little better next time. Excuse the target but it's what I had.
  6. That's a beautiful collection. Which is your favorite? I am interested in buying an SKS in the near future. Which would you recommend?
  7. Does anyone else out there have a kit they need finished? I'll get right on it! (Delivered with an antique patina like mine) Dinzag, I have an order for a muzzle brake in the mail. I'll finish my Saiga project MUCH sooner! G O B, I'll sight it in for 100 yds.
  8. No, the gun isn't particularly interesting at least not as a collectible. It's not especially beautiful either. (except to me) What is interesting about this gun though is that I purchased it as a kit nearly 30 years ago and I just finished it today! I picked up this Thompson/Center Hawken .45 cal. kit sometime in 1976 for $99 after I was married and before two children. The stock was finished in short order and the barrel flats were ¾ complete when family responsibilities made it a low priority. I can't even tell you how many times this kit got moved around from one corner t
  9. Wolf works well for me also.
  10. Here ya go! http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=10983&hl=
  11. Congrats on the new .223! I have the 20.5" and have only put about 50 rounds thru it. It is awesome. I have already ordered the parts to convert it into a Dragunov "style" with a forward FCG, U.S. gas piston and Choate stock. I will be all set to go to hi-caps if I want in the future. Good luck, Good Shooting! Saiga Sickness is in full bloom!
  12. Very cool! You did a great job! Enjoy.

    Saiga .223

You said Dragunov so I assumed you wanted the longer barrel. I'm not the one to ask about relative accuracy. Try searching this forum. Good luck.

    Saiga .223

If you are looking for a new 20.5 inch barrel for $220 with shipping and tax included, it's gonna be tough. The used one's I saw are going for more. On Point Supply has 16.5 inchers for $216.95 http://www.onpointsupply.com/cart.php?targ...ategory_id=1549
  15. I bought the 4 X 24 for my .223. I didn't see the need for a 1000 meter scope since I will be firing at 100 meters the majority of the time. Mine will remain stock also. If I need the 200 or 300 meter chevrons, I got 'em.
  16. Hello to all . I am new to the Forum and have read almost all of the posts in the last few days. I will be picking up my new Saiga .223 next week and the wait is driving me crazy. Saiga-12.com has helped take the "edge" off and given me a lot of useful information to boot. Thanks for the great posts. I do have one question (I'll have lot's more later) I have not seen addressed on the .223. Is the installation of a recoil supressor desirable on this rifle? Will it prevent damage to the receiver as advertised? What brand would you recommend?
