Read the law. It's simple. To be an assault weapon, the rifle must have a detatchable magazine AND ONE of the following characteristics: Pistol grip Bayonette lug Flash surpressor Collapsable or folding stock As long as you load no more than 7 rounds in the mag, you are good to go. So, the law as wriiten, means Saigas do not need to be registered. Also, SKSs, dispite having a bayonette, are still legal due to the fact that they do not have a detatchable magazine. (if left in original configuration, of course)

I really do not remember. I have not handled the rifle since the pics were posted in 2004. I'll have to take a look at it again sometime. Looks like you did a nice job making it work. Would it be possible to swap the hole from the old stock onto the Yugo stock? Just never seen a K98 without one and it makes removing the pin from the bolt very easy.

Are you looking for lightweight polymer? If not, I would check out a Browning Hi-Power or a Baretta M9., but I prefer things that are made of metal. I like the heft and feel like metal frame handguns would be more durable.
