  1. I want to thank Evl for this tutorial. Last year my state repealed its ban on SBS so I have several projects in process. One is a 12" S-12. I've tweaked the gas ports to get it running reliably and am now in the process of dressing up the rest of the gun. One task was the threading of the now shorter barrel. Once I got by a bit of an issue (explained below) the process when smoothly and I have a threaded section that will accept my attachments. So thanks again Evl. One heads up for anyone attempting this. Not sure if this has been covered before but I thought I would toss it ou

  3. I'm in the process of SBS'ing one of my S-12s and transforming it also into an AK wood furniture variation (will post photos of the finished product in a few months). I have my stamp and I've chopped the barrel to 12". Based on reading the "SBS Technical Info Thread" in the NFA section and particularly the post there by C&S Metall Werkes (http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/38318-sbs-technical-info-thread/?p=597096) I added 2 ports to my factory 4 and opened the opening in the gas block a bit to expose the extra ports. I left the factory ports alone at approx .078" and made the t
  4. This is just a fun gun for me and I normally would run cheaper ammo through it for what I do (just fun with my buddies at the range). I just stumbled on this while I was pattern testing my go-to defense shotguns and running the flight control through it was actually at suggestion of one of my buddies - one of those "hey, let's just see what happens" moments. I thought posting it here may may just get others to thinking about making sure they pattern test whatever they're going to seriously shoot with because you just never know. I have a number of shotguns but none have a device at the end
  5. Update: Got back out to the range today. I had taken the brake off of the barrel before heading out so I took one shot each at 20 feet with the #1 and 00 flight control rounds. They looked like the following. Nice tight small hole just like from my Mossberg guns with cyl bore. So . . . pretty much what I was expecting to begin with. I put the brake back on and took two more shots also at 20 feet. These looked like the two shots in my OP so the brake is definitely messing with the output. The berm is messy behind the targets so I was only able to recover this one wad. I do kno
  6. I don't see anything in the brake itself. No bits of plastic or anything. I didn't get a chance to try it yesterday without the brake, but will do so next time I can get out. It's not a big deal certainly. Just wasn't what I was expecting given the pattern with the Mossberg guns. I guess it just shows you always need to pattern test with the gun you intend to use.
  7. Thought I would throw this out there just for general knowledge or discussion, but also to see if anyone else had experienced this. Perhaps it is considered "normal"? While at the range today I pattern tested my two primary home defense shotguns which are a Mossberg 500 20" cylinder bore and a Mossberg 930 SPX 18.5" cylinder bore. I was specifically testing Federal Flight Control 00Buck-8 pellet (LE13300) and #1-15 pellet (LE1321B) I tested primarily at 20 feet since that is about the max distance I will experience within my house. The two Mossbergs delivered a very tight pattern with
  8. Those posting here may already know this, but many people don't so I thought I'd drop this here for the discussion on Locktite. It's not usually enough to just look at Blue or Red Locktite. Each category (Blue=Medium Strength/Red=High Strength) has a "standard" temp, high temp, and Ultra-high temp version. I race 100mph go-karts and do much of my own engine work. I use Blue Locktite on many of the nuts/bolts, but use the Ultra High Temp version to reduce the chance that the temps in the engine will melt down the Locktite. Blue or Red, I would be using the Ultra High Temp for something li
  9. Hopefully it's OK to post this here. I just bought the kit from Brian at Dinzag that allows you to put AK furniture on your S-12. I sent Brian an email before ordering online to make sure he had a kit in stock. He said he had four left and was not sure if he was going to make more due to import restrictions. So when these are gone they may not be available again. Just thought I'd let folks know in case you're interested in getting one. Got mine today and it is beautiful workmanship.
  10. He's not great about communicating but does good work. I wanted a particular color on mine when I ordered in 2013. I sent multiple emails and got replies on a couple of them so it was sort of hit-or-miss getting a reply. He did reply about my color choice and the shroud was done in that color and looked great. Shipping notice was sent out almost exactly five weeks after putting in my order.
  11. Are you talking about the issue described in this thread? http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/86987-bolt-cracked-at-locking-block-pivot/
  12. First of all, wow, hope you get all better soon or as much as you can be. Second, that is a nice looking Mosin build. Is that a Center Balanced Systems kit? I've become a bit of a bullpup nut with a Tavor, KSG, and several others. I've thought about doing a CBRPS build at some point.
  13. There was a thread on this awhile back. Here it is: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/91755-feed-lip-adjustment-on-mags/?hl=%2Bfeed+%2Blips&do=findComment&comment=946617 I did some of this to a few of my mags and reduced some of the FTF issues I was having. Still need to tweak some more.
  14. I posted these in the S-12 picture thread, but worth repeating here to give Cobra props for his great work. I got the full bolt, carrier, and FCG profile and polish and also a left side charging handle. I couldn't be more pleased with how this gun now operates.
  15. I'm pretty much done with this gun with the most recent working being sending bolt, carrier, and FCG to Cobra for an awesome job of profile and polish. He also did a great job adding the left side charging handle. The gun will now cycle the crappiest loads I can throw at it.
