  1. Can you do a Galil style vertical left side charging handle?
  2. Went to the range yesterday with 2 8rd ccspec and 2 SGM 10rd mags. The SGM mags consistently had FTF, stovepipes while the ccspec mags performed flawlessly. The feed angle on the SGMs have a steeper angle and would hang up when the shell tried to enter the chamber. Also the top shell sits higher causing more drag against the bolt which is causing the FTF and stovepipes. Update: Got to the bottom of the problem today. With the gun empty and all live ammo put away, I took a 12 guage snap cap and loaded it into one of the SGM mags. With the top cover open I observed the BHO lever front secti
  3. So I'm in for when Legion has the railed Vepr 12 lower hand guard and Kvar lower retainer combo available in Dec. for $75. That Zenitco buttstock looks wicked.
  4. Thanks ordered one from Atlantic firearms.
  5. Your making me want to get that pistol version. Picked up my SAM-7R today and had to do a bit of filing to get the surplus laminate furniture to fit, pre drilled holes for the screws so it doesn't split the wood. The Polish surplus bayonet doesn't click in the lug so I'll have to file the tab so it catches. The lever to loosen the top hand guard front bracket bent from trying lock it back. I'm not able to lock it back in fear the lever will snap (update: I needed to file the front of the upper hand guard and now the lever can be pushed down to lock in place). I used Pauly's technique to stai
  6. Anyone know if I can use surplus AK mags without installing a bullet guide?
  7. I ended up getting a Polish laminated stock set from RTG and also some bakelite furniture from AA-ok. What should I apply for the finish, shellack? I want the Polish laminate butt stock to match the bakelite.
  8. It was a matter of timing. I just sold the IZ132 (in the pic above) I converted for $1100, but purchased used at a higher panic price of $800 in stock sporter config. Never got to shoot it.
  9. Where'd you buy it? Wanna sell it to me, just secured a SAM7r. You could buy the similar stock for a stamped receiver from AA-ok.com Pm'd you. Here's the stock I bought from AA-ok on my Saiga conversion I just sold:
  10. Atlanticfirearms.com has more in stock right now for $1299. My LGS's have them for $1499. I do want to change the furniture to a more traditional look like bake lite upper/lower hand guard and pistol grip. As far as the stock I have to find one compatible to milled receivers, anyone know where I can buy this? For the stock it seems it would need the cut out at the top and bottom for the dual tangs, right? I'm curious to any performance improvements with the double hook trigger as opposed to single hook. Also for the look I want to buy a bayonet but the lug on this rifle isn't on the sight bloc
  11. Thank you for your response. So out of the ones I've listed either Bulgarian gas tube should work? Did you buy yours from K-Var?
  12. Still need help on which gas tube will work, other than the Russian one from K-Var since its oos.
  13. I just did this on my IZ-132. The original FSB has four dimples holding the FSB to the barrel, two on each side. Drill out the dimples but only the depth of the FSB metal slowly trying to keep watch so you don't go into the barrel. After that use a rubber mallet and hit the front sight towards the muzzle. After repeated blows it should slide and fall off. Some tutorials suggest to dremel a cut along the dimples throughout the length of each side of the FSB but you may cut into the barrel if your not careful. I don't see the need to cut the sides. Once you drill out the dimples there really isn
  14. Thanks to Shot show delaying any response from K-Var the Russian gas tube AK-080R I ordered was void because they said it was oos even though their webiste allowed me to order it because it was in stock when I purchased it online, thanks for not notifying me and their website for that order still said "processing". Now I'm not sure which one will fit and when someone finally answered their phone K-Var didn't know even when I told them what gun it was going on, they're cs is useless. Which one of these will work on my Saiga IZ-132? So they have an East German version AK-030EG, a Romani
  15. Just be careful when you cut off the FSB. The shroud is not as thick as it looks. Nicking the barrell is okay as it will be covered up by the new FSB. Creating trenches in the barrell not a good idea. I have to cut off the FSB? I thought it slips or hammered off. Any vids of this procedure?
  16. The gas tube I ordered from K-VaR comes with a retention spring but not sure if it's the flat or the curved. Do I need to get another one for the bottom forend or is there one already on the gun I could reuse?
  17. CSS closed their site again. I want to fully convert with the cleaning rod holder and bayonet lug. This Bulgarian AK-167B one should work from k-var?:
  18. Just dros'd the gun today and will pick it up on the 21st. It didn't have the 1 x 24 threads on the front sight block like my IZ-340 and the end of the barrel was covered integrated with the front sight block. It looks like the one in this pic from Atlantic firearms below. Do I need to replace the whole front sight block? Maybe it's the 1 X 14 threading. I want to put on an AK74 comp on the muzzle. I did see the round trunnion so I know I need the round bullet guide.
  19. Have you guys ordered anything from RTG? Is this site reliable or have you had any problems receiving your order. I've called but they're not answering their phone. Also who sells the AK74 gas tube besides K-var? Just trying to save money and find some other sources to buy parts.
  20. hdskumm, the Gas block you mentioned did you mean gas chamber? That bolt on HG retainer is the one I'll get since it's a drop in without pressing or fitting. If I did have to file the gas tube what is it you file? But I may not need to since the K-var one worked without modification.
  21. Thanks for helping guys, I hate to buy a bunch of parts finding out later I over bought and didn't need all of them.
  22. Hello just bought a Saiga IZ-132 sporter config AK47. I've owned the IZ-340 and have done the FCG to original config moving it forward, adding pistol grip. I just just want the same AK forend my IZ-340 had, which I just sold. I already have a red laminate wood set with pistol grip, stock, and upper and lower forend to put on. Parts list: Gas tube, which one? Will the K-var AK-080R fit? Does it need to be vented? Filing to fit needed or is there a drop in no fitting needed one like I've read the CSS one is? AK gas tube lock: RTG version gtg? AKM gas chamber: RTG version gtg? AK lower h
  23. Basically a Saiga AK47 7.62 X 39. IZ-332 with AK forend or IZ-240 with sporter forend. Sorry made a mistake on title of this thread on the model number, not a IZ-109 sporter S12 but a sporter AK47 IZ-240. If you have one to sell or if you have seen one available at an CA friendly online dealer. Please email me at b17a@sbcglobal.net or pm me if you have either BNIB. Thanks, Ron
