  1. German Salazar took the time to compare match scores of 308 vs 30-06. At mid range targets, 500 and 600 yards, 308 had a "slight" advantage in scores. At longer distances, 800-1000 yards, 30-06 has a "slight" advantage.
  2. Thanks to all of you for your responses. I still feel that we could be only one "event" away from an assault rifle ban and that possibility gives me cause for concern. As Bill Clinton said just last week, "you just can't have people walking around with guns". I plan to shoot my AR's more and my AK's less. I will probably pick up a milled Bulgy to shoot frequently and call it a day. Again, thanks for your input.
  3. I have Saigas but frankly, I am afraid to shoot them. The ban on Chinese weapons was never lifted and I fear that the same will hold true for Russian AK’s. I recently read an article where a public range in Las Vegas would routinely have to replace barrels and cracked trunions on their AK’s. My question is, how many times can a trunion and/or barrel be replaced on an AK? Are there AK’s made that lend themselves to replacement parts i.e. bolts, barrels, and trunions etc? Is there any standardization of parts among the various countries that have produced AK’s? The range said they have neve
  4. This Memorial Day – remember those that gave SOME – AND THOSE THAT GAVE ALL!!
  5. Cruz’s wife, Heidi, is a Goldman Sachs vice president. Yes, I am cynical.
  6. Stay with it, as with most polymer guns, you cannot limp wrist or it will jam. When I started shooting plastic guns I could not hit the side of a barn from inside the barn. All of a sudden (after a lot more than a few rounds) I found myself removing the center of targets. I now feel that the Glock is the best carry and SHTF handgun bar none. I once thought Glocks were junk. For recreational range use, it is CZ for me. A CZ 75B SA is as good as it gets. I now limit my purchases to CZ and Glock only.
  7. I am in the same boat. Knights, JP and GA Precision are probably the best but out of reach for me on price. Rock River does not use P Mags as far as I know. Scar has a plastic receiver and they will not sell you a long barrel. Both deal breakers for me. I am not sure Noveske still makes a 308. My main problem is that I associate DPMS with Remington and have read iffy reviews on MOA. Same for PSA. Same for POF. SIG rifles have been spotty. I am going to hold for actual reviews to appear on the Aero Precision before laying down any cash. Would be sweet to have an 18-20 inch upper and r
  8. I thank all of you for you help! Now I know a PKM when I see one.
  9. Should ask what you are doing with it. If hunting weight is a factor. XCR is a good rifle for the African plains. The Mossberg is a 2 inch MOA gun. 300 WM is large game. Really good reviews out there on the Savage. If punching paper you may want to consider a Rem 700 5R Mil Spec in a 300 Win Mag. If you reload look for some forum posts to work from (always verify with a load manual) as a place to start for load development. I have seen a 700P beat the mil spec. The 300 WM brass is expensive and it uses a lot more powder when compared to a 308. A 308 will do 90% of what a 300WM will do
  10. Photo from Crimea, belt fed? gas tube below barrel, just wondering.
  11. I have a newer stainless ranch mini and it has been back to factory twice, first for stove pipes on ejection, second time for bottom metal dropping out if I fired mil 5.56 in it. Accuracy is horrible. I can't hit the side of a barn from inside the barn. Am considering the rod and clamps on the barrel fix but at what point do I give up? Ruger should supply the rod for free as it is their barrel harmonics problem. Did I mention that Ruger scope mounts pop off as the receiver changes temp?. Brass is badly damaged on ejection with side creases, softer brass gets mangled case heads from the ex
  12. I should trust Ishmash Saiga products from all of the great past experience I have had, but I am interested in knowing if any of you have had real first hand experience with this rifle. (seems I never go first) Fit and finish? Accuracy? Centerfire Systems has a few. Low end American rifles are iffy and I have heard only bad about Century's Zastava bolt guns. Would be nice to see in a 308 and 54R as well.
  13. I also use the lee factory crimp die. Excessive crimp widens the spread, a little is good for accuracy as pressure builds prior to launch. Crimp just enough that you can not force the bullet back by pushing the tip of the bullet against the edge of your bench. I crimp some even on bolt guns.
  14. I use the newspaper end rolls as well. Have also used the back side actual wallpaper leftover rolls. Can't never sight a scope without the paper.
  15. My research ended with the purchase of a Konus-80. I have read bad things about the Konus 100mm. Down side is that it is tipsy in the wind. One can use a sock filled with sand or ankle exercise weight wrapped around the small tripod if you are in a lot of wind. Tripods can be upgraded. Purchase based upon reasonable cost and the many users at Camp Perry. If you have lots of money there are many options. The Konus does get a little milky at max but I find it servers my use out to 300 yards just fine. Nikon, Sightron and Leupold are better. Read the many reviews of the Konus at the large
