  1. Had the exact same issue. I think for those to work properly you need weaker springs or something because with the factory springs it just *barely* clears the action and I was getting FTEs at least 2-3 times per mag with the recoil buffer in and the gas turned all the way up. Removed it and setting 1 is just fine with 0 FTEs. I don't know if they make thinner buffers or what but the ones I got off CSS (the blue ones) didn't work for me at all.
  2. I think the problem is that people will drill out their ports or perform other permanent modifications before adjusting springs. Every change has to be tested and you should do the least possible - aftermarket springs have definitely given me issues in the past. As an example, a replaced main spring caused the bolt hold open to have too much slop and go up into my action causing the bolt to lock open. The replacement BHO with the notch cut I had to drill out for the axis pin because it wouldn't clear on its own. Had one failed retainer plate and another had to be drilled open to receive my
  3. Not sure why people would say $1000. Saiga 12's these days routinely go for almost $700 by themselves and that red dot sight is several hundred bucks. That chaos warthog is $100, rail another $150, assorted components probably about $300 with the folding stock altogether, plus $100 for the bolt. Assuming it hasn't been shot to hell and the barrel and action are in good shape it should be worth at least $1700 for the weapon, plus the mags. I would not dismantle it and sell it separately, it's fantastic the way it is - looks like it is ready to go kick some ass. Someone's going to have
  4. Not at all. I think most of the people here are with you 100%. Here in MD we're fighting to get the 'good and sufficient' clause removed from concealed weapon permits. Anyone who asks me why I think I need to carry I gun I respond to by saying look at all the people who are denied CCW's *UNTIL AFTER THEY ARE ASSAULTED*, at which point the chances of them being assaulted again is almost none. As a law abiding person, I want the permit because if I ever for any reason feel like it's a good idea to carry my handgun somewhere then at that point I'll want to have the permit already instead of h
  5. I don't think anyone questions porting for muzzle flip. I think it'd be interesting to measure the recoil generated by both though.
  6. This is really what it boils down to. Incrementally changing the expectations of what amount of firepower a person should have access to, until ultimately they have no access at all. Every incident of any type is an excuse to tighten gun control, regardless of how ineffectual or irrelevant just because of lack of resistance. The sad part is this isn't just a gun thing. This is every law, tax and restriction of civil rights in this country. It's like dropping dimes into a shot glass filled with water. It might take a long time but eventually it overflows.
  7. A gun that is bothersome to shoot is not a gun worth owning IMHO. Unless it shoots nukes or something. I want every gun I own to be tip top and feel like I can empty a couple hundred rounds through it without being beaten to hell by the end. In a gas operated gun there's really no value in it kicking you more - except if you want it super light as a carried/patrol weapon or something but there's better choices for that than an S12 IMHO.
  8. Jack is a good guy and knows his stuff. Can't wait to hear the range report .
  9. Alternatively you can avoid posting until you have something worth a shit to say.
  10. Heh. Maybe not, I don't deal with many bad guys. You're definitely more experienced at being a condescending ass though. I initially thought your post was along the lines of there's no need to worry about protecting yourself in your home against home invasion, now though I'm getting the idea you're just mostly trolling. Edited to contain less harsh curse words.
  11. I'd buy this if I would accept the standard AR style recoil pads. Would give me something to put my limbsaver on.
  12. Ever been robbed/mugged? If you ever are, you'll think less of HD as a time waster and more as just a basic insurance policy. I've been mugged a couple times when I was a teen and had two houses broken into over the years. Now that I have a baby, I know if someone tries to get into my house and I'm home they're going to leave in a pine box.
  13. I cannot comment on the Vepr 12 (I don't own one) but I can tell you how I have my S12 set up for recoil... 1) I swapped the cheap Tapco pistol grip that I bought it with to a VLTOR EMOD with rubber pad. 2) Put a 14oz mercury tube in the back. 3) JTE brake on the front (the 9oz maintains a solid balance). 4) 2point sling (Viking). My handguard is a Phoenix tri-rail, which is fairly light for what it is. You might have to adjust the weight numbers (like going with a shorter/lighter front brake, like the Molot or mini-monster or simple slant) to maintain a proper balance if you have
  14. I'll disagree with that. With my S12 setup it doesn't kick almost at all due to how it is weighted. The KSG12 is a mule, I'd take the longer S12 any day. It's back weighted so it swings nicely, has almost no recoil and if someone wants to try grabbing the barrel well good luck with that . As for how to store it, I have it next to the bed with 2x 10 rnd mags, one with buckshot the other with low-recoil hollow point slugs. The mags are not loaded into the gun. I have a p226 with a red dot laser, 15 loaded but decocked on the night stand. p226 is to give me time to load the S12, then it
  15. Why? You're trying to see which is better. Yes, heavier will be better lol. Adding weight just makes the lighter ones look like they will work better than they actually will - skewing the results.
