  1. I can't believe what is happening right in front of our eyes...

You can't buy a hi-cap mag right now since these recent events have evoked panic! If you do find one you will pay 5x what it should cost. I know I should have jumped on multiple 40 round metal mags for $20 at my local gun shop. They raised their price to $35 and still sold out on MONDAY!

As was stated, hopefully cooler heads will prevail when the dust settles; I am just not so confident with our current president. Its a shame because I was looking in to actually making my first AR purchase before all this happened and now thats out the window!!

  2. I actually looked at a Caldwell today...looked pretty good. Especially for what I may actually get to use mine for.

I could go swivel mount but ereally don't want to loose my sling mount up there; anyway around this?

Theres all kind of ways I could attach a sling to the bipod itself.

Harris is the best, so they say, and what you want if you have mission critical hard every-day use. Caldwell is a respectable chinese knockoff of the Harris that is built quite well for hobbyist use. I love mine. UTG makes scrappy cheap chinese knockoff of the Harris, for use only rarely and treat with care.

  3. Thanks for the replies everyone. I am not tooo concerned with accuracy...first run x39 mostly Saiga here, but want to hit at 200 yards.

What should I lookout for regarding the bipod itself...any features/brands you would like to comment on and recommend (or not??)

  4. ^^^^^^ looks like around 160.00ish for both parts. The top section is $55. but you can have a red dot and scope and use the same side mount, just have 2 uppers. I just got 2 trs-25s for $75 each so thats a no go. I hear so much positive about the trs I had to do it.

    Pics?

I have now decided I need another mount for my red dot...can anyone lay claim to the lowest mount? With the 'low profile' UTG mount my cheek weld still suffered greatly with this cheap red dot I have. (obviously the red dot in not in these pics :) )

  5. Just getting into bipods for the x39 and want to hear your opinions...pros and cons of barrel mount versus other types of mounts? I am looking one to shoot off a bench and prone on the farm.

I'm leaning barrel mount so I can swap it to my Nagant and other rifles...

  6. Looks good! I bought the same one and installed it along with my red dot. My mount was slightly (1/8") off center (to the right) but didn't seem to make a difference. Hold zero pretty well but I CAN NOT use the irons with the red dot mounted. The mount itself is great but the flat mounting surface of the red dot blocks the irons.

Make sure you get proper rings!

My UTG Pro came in. It does allow the iron sights to be used through a V notch in the mount when it is mounted. I haven't purchased my scope rings yet because I was waiting for the mount to get here to take it with me to shop for rings.

  7. I have a red dot using the UTG mount. It doesn't allow the iron sights to be used. I just ordered a UTG PRO low profile mount to use with a Leopold VX-R scope I just picked up. The description for the mount says the top is "U-cut on Top for See-thru Application with Iron Sights" so it sounds like it sits pretty low. $59.95 http://store.carolin...6-U978S-/Detail

I just bought the same one...here's hoping, at minimum, its centered on the gun and, wishful thinking, I can actually use the irons sights like they claim.

  8. Mods if this is not allowed accept my apologies and please delete.

Just a heads up SGAmmo got 175K rounds of Golden Tiger 7.62X39 in yesterday. Selling it in 1K lots @ $218

I know it has been rather hard to find lately and just wanted to let fellow forum members know they have it and are not gouging like others right now.

$218 with what shipping charges? I'm picking up 1k either from you or SGAmmo along with some 7.62x54.

Mine was like $22 for 1k shipped UPS.

Nice, I'm picking up 880 rounds of x54 ammo as well and maybe some 9mm

  9. Good luck finding one. All the mounts i have seen sacrifice your cheek weld on the stock and turns it into your chin resting on it. I opted for a quick release side mount with a red dot. Have Another mount with a scope on it. Never any issues holding zero after 6-7k rounds. Taken on and off hundreds of times.

Any pics of your setup? I am leaning towards two mounts for scope and red dot (for fun) so I can stay zeroed. It is looking like I'm either shooting scoped or removing for iron sights.

I got a MTK-83 from belarus on mine with a cheapo 4x32 scope works alright but takes some getting used to seeing how it makes you feel like a lil kid trying to look over something to use it... as far as accuracy or how long it will last I dunno havent shot it enough to really give a good answer... was having a lil trouble with screws backing out and loosing zero havent shot it yet after fix... (in the middle of conversion) not lookin good to get to range for a while yet need more parts to keep atf happy... dont remember where I got it but I think it was either cheaper then dirt or apex

Pics? Very curious about the cheek weld...

It's possible, but you will likely need to go with a Texas Dogleg system to replace the receiver cover. I have gone that route, and added the peep sight in front of a one piece TMS scope mount with Nikon glass. The setup allows me to use the irons and still use the scope without it causing cheek weld issues. I will try to post a pic of my setup later on this afternoon.

Hmm...haven't done much searching yet but I would be open to the Texas Dogleg. What is a round about price for one of those dust covers for the x39?

Gabes kalishni-scout uses a long eye relief scope on an ultimak, mounted on 1 inch burris tactical rings. He claims that the 1" rings have holes that let you sight the irons through them below the scope. Link

Personally I think its an OK build, but the forearm is more tacticool than useful. On a scout rifle id rather have a lightweight plastic forearm than 5 miles of rail, a light plastic 20-round mag, and a lighter stock, preferably folding for an easier time humping it and moving with it. But, hes selling it, so a certain amount of bells and whistles are required to sell to the mall ninjas.

Yeah, I am not a fan after looking at it. The iron sights are not what I had invisioned and I totally agree lighter and fewer over what he has equipped there.

  11. Guys. They are a forum vendor here. Fostech outdoors.

If you are going to buy a stock like this, why would you not spend the additional ~$50 to convert? all you would need would be a trigger group, and a trigger guard that does not have a built in pg nut.

I didn't know it was only $50 required to convert big_smile.gif

I think my Saiga is a first gen model because I have had it (in absolutely stock form) for years (circa 2001) and am just now getting into them (and back into firearms in general). Now I think I'm going to go crazy...all i want to do is shoot!
