  1. As with any rifle ammo plays a big part in accuracy. Def. go with a .308 if you've got the dough. The mags are a little pricey though. That's the only draw back. I've got 3 factory 8rd mags and 2 of the surefires that are like 30 or so at near 50 bucks a pop. 5 mags are enough for me considering I don't shoot it very much(ammo is too expensive to blow).

  2. I got my .308 at a gun show and got all the parts their too. I think they were all from the same company. DPH arms. That's who I got all my stuff for my ak romanian "G" build too. They have alot of stuff too including the sure fire mags for the .308. I just got 2 a couple of weeks ago. They weren't cheap though....ch-ching.

  3. I'm doing my 308 right now. Three issues so far. 1st is the saftey. I don't have welding toys, so I ordered a Rom. F/A saftey to see if it will work. (g2 has no F/A tab on disconnector) If not, I'll hit the muffler shop where I used to work.

Second is the disconnector spring. The original is larger O.D. than the g2 hole. I'm ordering a new spring, rather than boring the new part.

Third, the g2 hammer has a knob on it that strikes the crossbar. The original is flat from the radius halfway up the hammer. I filed it down to fit.

I will update with more, but it may take a while.

Yup, I actually went ahead and bored out and actually trimmed the spring. Worked for 2 yrs. so far but, I haven't fixed the safey yet. I look one at every gun show I go to but never can find one. I guess I need to get the welder out.

  4. Wait until nazi pelosi has her way with us. It will probably got alot more complicated.

    :lol::lolol::lolol:

Yeah I know, tell me about it!

I don't think anyone will ever know everything there is to know about this cockamany bullshit!

If there was a way to sum it all up in one sticky post it would have been done years ago and 90% of all the questions asked on gun forums would be easily answered with a link and a ;) wink. Instead it just stinks! I wish I had a Krink! I'd go shoot a mink.

    Instead I just drink.

Uh oh Cobra's finally lost it I think...

I'm getting ready to convert my .308 and I've read about people having problems with the G-2 in the .308. Has anyone used one without the safety problem? Is this problem caused by not trimming the front right corner of the trigger cutout in the receiver?

Also...If I use a choate drag stock does that count as two parts or one?

Is this a joke? You are asking compliance and conversion questions?

  5. I think I'm going to go that route. It seems to be the easiest at this time. It would be nice if there was a one piece fsb and muzzle attachment.

Denny, I don't know if you've seen this, but here's a 74 type brake sold by one of our members if you're just interested in throwing something on there. I'm sure it makes it loud as hell and pisses off the gun snobs. I think he'll even do the work for you.

  6. that's a good attitude, life is too short. guns are cool.

Yeah, we do not communicate well, even when we try.

He thinks I should live my life the way he thinks I should. Thinks I am too free spirited. I just say life is too short to work all the time. When its time to work, I am working. But when I am done, it's PLAY TIME!

Part of the liberal brainwashing. Get ready for another good dose.

    Yeah,

There are a lot of "scared" people out there. Just wait until they need YOU, and your toys, in the future. THEN, they'll be "all happy" to have you around.

Get used to this injustice by people wearing blinders.

Yeah, I love it when hunters (read: people who only own bolt actions, but fellow gun owners, nonetheless) think any "assault weapon" should be banned because it's not "sporting."

Last I checked, the 2A doesn't read "...the right of the people to keep and bear sporting arms..."

This behavior baffles me, to say the least.

  7. It's really not that difficult. I just did mine. The only difficulty I had was in using a g2 fcg instead of the rsa for the 308. I finally got it working but the safety has to be replaced or another tab needs to be welded on the safety. The pistol grip is the easiest part.

Thanks Cobra. I think that I will take a stab at it over the Christmas holiday.

    A

    Nice conversion job.

I was going to do my 16 inch s308 but I noticed that rather than having a pistol grip mount hole, it had a slit a little less than a quarter inch wide and about 1/2 inch long in its place.

This stopped me because I am not sure if cutting out the pistol grip mount hole in the middle of this slit would provide adequate strength.

Anyone encountered this slit? Is the conversion still sturdy if you cut out for the pistol grip mount hole?

    Thanks,

    A

That slit is the factory trigger hole for the neutered imported models. I just looked inside mine and it already has the square hole for the PG nut cut out on the forward end of the small trigger slit. You should be fine for strength if you cut it out. The way the nut sits in there with an overhang around the top side it's not going anywhere. Just don't overtighten it any more than necessary and use a threadlocker.

  8. Just buy my first Saiga 308 and I am wanting to put a scope on it.... I have the mount already....

What scope should I get w/o breaking the bank??? I plan on hunting with it, mostly wild hog....

I did the same thing. I actually got a shotgun scope from wally world. It's made by tasco and it costs about 36 bucks or so. You'll definately need the long eye relief variety. I just got a T6 stock so I hope it still works.

  9. Yes, we're jealous. I'm going to try the modded m14 mags first. I'm just curious how they work. I just like the look of the m14 20rders.

Mine came in yesterday, just before work (2pm), so of course I haven't had a chance to go shooting yet. I am very, very pleased. It is an outstandingly attractive magazine. A while back I ordered some factory 8 rounders from elsewhere and those required a little "fitting" to get them to lock up. . .. NOT so with the FBMG 20's. The 20's slide into the hole with the expertice of a middle age porn star, I mean smooth. Once they are locked up, they feel solid, no wobble. These are some fine magazines. They look fabulous on the gun. I am pleased. If yours have not come yet, fear not, when they do, they are worth the wait.

I started this as a new thread with the expectation that others could add their oppinions once theirs came in. It could be that there will be some differing oppinions. And in all likelihood others will get to shoot with theirs before me, so I guess I am interested in those oppinions the most. What I'd really like to see is a thread that fills up with positive comments and happy reports, kind of as a means of thanking FBMG for sticking their necks out and getting this done & for putting up with all of our whinning when it took a while. Great job FBMG!

  10. I got a T6 and saw grip today. I also got a tapco fcg to put on tommorow. All I need now is a muzzle attach.

Has anyone used a T6 type stock or a regular ar15 stock with an adapter on a saiga 308. Can it hold up to the recoil? I want something adustable I can use for different optics so I need an adjustable stock.
  11. Ditto on that..

I saw awhile back a pin-on vortex flash hider and pin-on adapter with left-hand threads. The unit slipped right over the FSB and pinned on through one of the FSB pin holes. Who was making those and how do I get ahold of them?

Also, if anybody has any cost-effective ways of getting a combination muzzlebrake and flash hider on the end of my S-.308s without threading the barrel PM me. Please. I'm looking for a good quality brake and flash hider I can permanently put on and not have to worry about again, so if anybody has any ideas please drop me a line. Thanks

  12. I've been waiting for a thread like this since I got my S-308 back from the shop. This conversion was done by the guys at Idaho Armament Company. I couldn't be happier with the fit and finish of the rifle; no rattle on the buttstock (not yet anyway) and the retaining piece for the lower handguard came out very well. The parts on labor on this one cost me just under $640. And yes, I am advertising for Idaho Armament Company -- not because I have any affiliation with them, but because they did a superb job.

I apologize for the crappy picture quality.

Ok, how did they get the flash suppressor on? Is that the tapco forend for saigas?

  13. I got one of the 140 rd. packs 2 weeks ago for 40.

Wallyworld has the Federal 150 grain SP 20 for $9.83 down here in Florida and I found some 140 round battlepacks at Gunsmoke gun shop (mentioned not too kindly in the forums that go the wrong way thread) for $49.95 which seems to be a good deal nowadays.

By the way,I got good service at Gunsmoke

I guess most folks will get into reloading now

Quido, Thanks for the warning on the .45 cal ammo,I got 250 rounds UMC for around $50 at wallyworld too

  14. Has anyone used a T6 type stock or a regular ar15 stock with an adapter on a saiga 308. Can it hold up to the recoil? I want something adustable I can use for different optics so I need an adjustable stock.

I have one. it holds up well enough. Mine stays sturdy with the receiver. But thats mostly due to the way I installed the screws onto the rear trunion. The stock will move about 1/8 of an inch at any length of pull and rattles when you walk with it(this is just like any other AR-15 crappy collapsible stock). I would have rather just gotten an ACE folder, but being able to move the stock is nice. I like to shoot standing with the stock shortened, from a benchrest with the stock fully extended. The further my face is away from the sites the better the groupings.

here is a pic on my .308

    Thanks bro, that's pretty tight.
