The best bit looks like the feed ramp.
With a little luck, maybe we will see someone offering this as an aftermarket upgrade. As long as it doe NOT adversely affect reliability, I would like it on my MKA 1919.

Plus as most people know building them is half the fun.
Agreed. That's why everything in my cart can be called a "Frankengun".

How is the Remington Gun Club? As GunFun mentioned, I don't remember if we've tried that specific load, I found those cheap. 2.75", 7.5 shot, 1 1/8 oz., 1145 & 1200 fps. Says the hull is re-loadable.
The Remington Gun Club shells at 1200 fps have so far been the most reliable shells for my MKA 1919. I wait until Brownells has free shipping and buy up four or five cases at a time.
Tried the Rem GC 1145 fps and still will not run 100% so I'll break it in a little more and try again later.
The Winchester AA's I tried unsuccessfully were from a few cases in the garage that were a little bit old (bought around 2002). Based on your success with the AA 1145 fps loads, I picked up a box this morning. Hope to try them out this weekend.

When they have it in stock, Brownells has pretty good ammo prices for those with an FFL. I usually wait until they offer a shipping discount code and then stock up. You do not need an FFL to use the code.
Current code (good until 01/01/2014) is "EB2". Free shipping on orders over $150.00.

Ran by Walmart to pick up some of Winchester bulk pack but none in stock. Only thing for 12 gauge on the shelves were the Remington STS.What kind of prices do you see on the Winchesters?
Now if I needed some .223/5.56, it would have been like Christmas. Several 1000 packs of 855, lots of XM193 and Tula. Even saw several boxes of Winchester Match with 69 gr bullets.

You can also drill the hole lower and paint a red spot on the follower for better visibility.
That would also allow me to drill on the side of the magazine like Anubis suggested. I'll give it a try.
Thanks.

Mine also has the gas ring locking nut working loose but its usually after 200 rds or so. When reassembling the gun, I clamp down and put a little extra torque.
The forend nut starts to come loose in under 25 rds. Extra torque just doesn't seem to help.
I'm looking for an appropriate sized O-ring to try.

I don't see how it would cause any issues, as long as you don't leave burrs on the inside of the mag.
Thanks Chris.
My concerns would be the spring catching on the de-burred hole and on the SGM plastic a crack propagating from the hole.

I'm considering drilling some witness holes in my MKA 1919 magazines.
These magazines are used for competition use only. It would be nice to glance at the back of the magazine before the buzzer sounds to assure myself that I'm not about to have one of those brain fade stages.
My plans are to drill one 1/4" diameter hole in the back of the magazine where the bottom round's primer would show to indicate a full magazine.
In the Firebird 15 rd magazines, the hole would be drilled into the plastic SGM magazine. On the Roulette 18 rd magazine, it would be drilled in aluminum.
Anyone try this with "bad" results?
Thanks.

The Mini-14 was designed for "suppressive fire" on the battlefield.
Just kidding.
At least you found a use for them.
Although I rarely shoot my Mini-14, when I do I do not use steel cased ammo. Mine is an early stainless steel model (one of the first sold in West Texas when Ruger first introduced them in stainless).
Compared to an AR, changing out the barrel once the chamber is worn out is much harder (expensive) on the Mini. A cheap barrel and a spare half hour is all it takes to get an AR up and running again.

if you wish, I'll pm you his info
Please do. Thanks.

Copied the picture from another thread in this forum (I didn't want to do any hi-jacking).
Is this up and running reliably? This is the first SBS that really got my heart pumping. A one off? Or something that will be offered to those of us willing to do the paperwork?

The Tula brass case .223 ammo is beginning to show up on the shelves locally. So far its about the same for reliability and accuracy as Tula steel case ammo.

Well that's lame,JB weld.
I guess duct tape wouldn't work. J.B. Weld has its uses, but this is not one of them. Essentially the "gunsmith" is blowing you off and not worthy of any future consideration.

Even though my pre-XN shotgun is well broke in (well over 1500 rds), I continue to shoot it wet. If I go too long between full break-down and cleaning, carbon rings will build up on the guide rod and hang up the gas piston.
So when I get a stovepipe, the first thing I check is the guide rod. If in doubt, clean it and the gas piston. Run the piston up and down the guide rod to be certain there is no drag or spots where it catches even slightly.
I use Remington Gun Club (1200 fps - 1-1/8 oz) shells for most practice and all matches.

Now that's a neat backyard!

Thanks Jim.
Since the initial barrel fits fine, I should be good to go with a replacement barrel as long as all barrels have the same length barrel extension. Right?
-
There was a problem with some of the 1st Gen barrels not fitting properly. On some the barrel extension protruded slightly into the ejection port.
I don't know if this was an upper receiver problem or a barrel problem. Has it been solved? If its kind of hit or miss, I guess it will be best to order a barrel and see if it fits before I have a comp installed.
If I get a replacement barrel and it extends into the ejection port, can it be returned? Or repaired/modified?
Thanks.

Any word on Gen 1 barrels?
Thanks.

Is the spring Bill recommends from the SGM Saiga 12 rd mag?
If so, I'm in luck. I have several left over from FP-15 conversions plus I stocked up on a couple extra SGM 12 rounders in case something happened where they were no longer available.
-
I spoke with Bill today and am pretty confident of the setup. He explained the mods to the MKA mag and it sounds really simple and logical. He did say that the 2 round is the one to use, because the 5 round mags are not curved properly from the get go, which makes sense. He stated the curve on the Saiga SGM mags is correct and work well when mated to the 2 rounders. The mag on the bottom is a 24 rounder...and he has shot 3 gun for alot of years and says the ones he has, run 100%. He also stated that the SGM follower is the one to use...interesting. Like I said before, we shall see, I sent my MO today.
Interesting, since FB says NOT to use the SGM follower
Also, where do you get a spring for a 24 round mag?
If we find a source for a good 24 rd magazine spring, we will soon see folks with the FB-15 mags attaching a second Saiga mag to the bottom with one of these connectors. At least I would give it a try.

Maybe if you moved it to the classifieds section it would get some interest.

We had a shotgun stage this past weekend that was flat out perfect for box fed shotguns.
Per the stage briefing, at the start signal the shotgun could only be loaded with slugs. If you were accurate, you could get by with just two, but you could load as many as you wanted. Before advancing, you were required to empty the gun (no more slugs in the gun after the box) and reload with shotshells for 7 small plates and an obstinate double plate spinner.
After the slugs, I reloaded to the Roulette Tactical magazine on the move and took down the remaining steel. The gun is heavy but in the heat of competition, it don't seem bad at all.
And due to the spinner, those extra two rounds were needed.

Help ! Is my bolt carrier broken?
in MKA-1919

So far I'm not having this problem, but thanks for the tip.
I assume you are using a flat tipped punch. Or are there punches with a concave bottom?
Thanks.
