  1. I haven't been able to get mine anywhere near the target because the rail is canted upward on the receiver. I've had two 308s and both of them were like this. Can't believe I'm the only one. Anyone know a good permanent fix? As to accuracy IMHO none of these claims mean very much without stating what kind of ammo you were using and how many kinds you've tried. If you shoot Wolf that's one thing, surplus another, hunting ammo another, match another, reloads another, etc. etc. Even if you've shot high dollar match ammo if you've only tried one brand or bullet weight you could completely
  2. I've had two Saiga 308s and both of them have had canted rails. The one I have now I have used 4 aluminum shims on it (2 under the picatinny rail and two in the rear ring) from a soda can and it still is only half corrected. Still hitting more than a foot low at 50yds and still visibly canted. I have the Russian rail mount which is nice and solid, but the rail itself on the receiver is canted upward toward the muzzle. What is a good fix for this? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! I just bought one too! If you read your owner's manual it tells about how to adjust the gas system. There are only two positions and the selector is right there under the front sight, it's really quite simple. Look at it this way. You've spent your life driving an automatic and now you just bought a manual. Just because this gun operates differently than the one you are used to does not make it inferior. Your Remington (I'm assuming it was a semi auto) probably would wear out faster shooting very high power loads than the Saiga would when set on position 1, so
  6. Why would it work better on your .223? Don't they come with the same extended trigger? I wonder how Saiga sells the ones with the Dragunov type stocks, wouldn't that make for F'd up trigger geometry too? BTW I also bought the same stock and have the same problem with my .308. I'm encouraged by how simple it sounds to swap the TCG and move the trigger forward. I typically screw up anything mechanical but I'm starting to feel like I could actually do it.
  7. As has been said visible lasers make sense up close, not across the battlefield, or I'll add, even across the yard. I think they make excellent sense though for a carry pistol you expect to use within 10ft in low light. That probably describes 90% of defensive gun uses right there. They are not however substitutes for basic iron sights shooting skills. The big plus to a laser when the shtf up close and personal is that it doesn't depend as much on your vision and fine motor skills which tend to be elusive when the fight or flight response kicks in. I see no problem with a laser on a CQB c
  8. I used to have a stock 16" Saiga .308 and I sold it a year or more ago in a fit of stupidity. Well I just bought one exactly like it for.... (drumroll).... $230. The funny thing is it actually might be my old one. I traded the gun for something else in the same store, and now a year later it might have been returned by the same guy that bought it. I'll have to look through old receipts and see if it is. I know I payed about $100 more than I just did for the rifle brand new over a year ago, and today I think they are going for $450 to $500. I'm a happy camper. Now I need
  9. The stock in question (the new T6 from Tapco) does not fold, so comparisons to an older Tapco folding design are not valid. I hear the Ace folders are more sturdy than even the new stronger Tapco folders, but again this new Tapco does not fold so its going to be inherently sturdier. I have similar Tapco 4 position adjustable stock sets on 2 of my SKSs and they both seem sturdy to me. I also had an Ace fixed skeleton stock on an AR and it was very sturdy but it did not fold and was not adjustable in any way. I think the T6 would be fine, however I have not held one.
  10. What do you mean you were adjusting the scope after each round? That just doesn't make sense to me unless you were sighting it in, and then you wouldn't have a tight group. Perhaps you mean you were adjusting the rifle position to put the crosshairs back on target?
  11. (Mods please move this if necessary, I couldn't find a forum for a non-Saiga AK based rifle) I picked up one of the AKs Century is selling these days with the bullpup kits installed. It's made on a WASR rifle. Like any bullup the trigger is a little heavy and spongy but really not as bad as I was expecting. I removed the ridiculously high front and rear sight extensions and mounted a red dot on a gas tube cover picatinny rail, which is surprisingly sturdy (the rail, not the cheap red dot). This thing is a blast! It balances more to the rear compared to a normal configuration which
  12. Good grief! Anyone know how to delete a thread? I had only shot 20rnds through it since the last cleaning so I was going to scab out on the bolt, etc. I wish there was a "smacks head" smiley.
  13. My Saiga .308 is rather new but I have had the gas tube off a couple of times already for cleaning. Its always been very tight and to be honest the last time I put it back on it didn't look like there was enough clearance for it to fit and I was surprised when it finally snapped into place. Now I can't get the frikken thing off. I've of course got the release lever up and that is not holding it, there is something else on that end that is holding it down. When I try and pry it up it will move a little like whatever is holding it is flexing a little, but its held fast. I've tried whack
