  1. I have a quad rail and if I had it to do all over again I'd buy a high quality, precision machined one. I'll probably redo it sometime in the near future, when I get a little money saved up. One of the reasons I like it is because it acts like a huge heat sink. But you either need to wear gloves or you need rail covers.
  2. It's possible to get Type 53's as "you fix em's", as long as you don't give a rip about your numbers not matching. I've heard of rifles going for as little as 60 to 70 bucks a pop, but you take your chances... And it's a foregone conclusion that there will be parts missing or the stocks will suck. I picked up a Russian M-44 from Gander Mountain that was missing its bayonet. Other than that it was in almost perfect shape. All the numbers matched, the rifling was razor sharp and really shiny. Best 150 bucks I've spent in awhile.
  3. OK, first off, it's your rifle you have the right to do whatever you wish with it. Secondly, given the case that it was in, I believe you certainly did the ol' girl justice by doing the polishing and bluing. And even though it could be classified as a "bubba'd" Finn, I for one, would be proud to add that one to my Mosin collection. By chance. would you happen to have a "before" picture? (I haven't read through the rest of the posts yet so sorry for the possible double post). Peace
  4. Did all the serial numbers match (butt plate, floor plate, barrel and bolt)? Would you consider selling it with all the original hardware, you can keep the boyd's stock, don't need it. You did do a beautiful job of putting it together and the stock is incredible.
  5. Jess, About everybody is out of stock, including Promag. They appear to be running 10 to 12 weeks behind the date you order. Thankfully, they don't bill you before shipment. After hearing 6 to 8 weeks from their customer support (nice ladies, btw), I just got pissed and cancelled my order. Found it cheaper somewhere else and was able to get three 10 round mags and the stock for 200 bucks (with shipping). It looks like a great product, but between their over hyped marketing, manufacturing not able to keep up with a reasonable amount of demand and really shitty communications with th
  6. Just a simple note to the rest of my bothers & sisters, from any service and of any nationality: Tomorrow we celebrate Memorial Day in remembrance of those who have fallen in the line of duty. I will raise my glass in their honor and to the family and friends who are here today, as a result of those selfless acts. Thank you.
  7. That thing is friggin beautiful! Congrats and I truly do envy you (and everybody else who has one).
  8. I witnessed a similar event, where someone handed a weapon, complete with loaded mag to an "expert" and it almost ended in tragedy. The really sad part is that I know for a fact that the oner did NOT have a round chambered, prior to the hand off. Since then, I don't let anybody I don't know touch a weapon of mine, when at the range and when I'm with people I do know, all mags are put into my ammo box and the weapons are cleared before I let a single soul touch them. I'd rather look foolish by being over the top safety conscious, then worry about, let alone live with the fact that someone cou
  9. I can't understand why they'd want to flood the cavern? Be that as it may, I wonder what the reaction of the people who discovered it might have been? Or what kind of cooling suits they used, when first preparing it with lighting?
  10. I remember when Slick Willie turned a blind eye to military technology being given to China, by lorance. Almost every thing obama has done, when negotiating with other adversary governments has been a fucking disaster. Based on how he's flailing about right now, this guy is minor league, and shouldn't be allowed to lead a pack of cub scouts, let alone lead this nation. The only reason I don't wish bad luck on him is his vice stooge. Probably the only more clueless idiot in DC than Obama. I just hope the man doesn't destroy the entire country before the end of his term. Now, whomever
  11. Big John, I just watched the video and I think that's about as good of offer as they will get, unless some cemetary quietly offers to take the body. If it's shipped back to Chechnia, I'd send it C.O.D. Why should the American tax payer pay to ship the body back?
  12. I went through the exact same excersise, only I broke the #6 tap in the hole a number of times. I wound up shattering the bit with a hardened punch. I had a number of the older craftsman drill bits and some old vermon american and all of them were ruined on that fucking tap, because the metal in the tap was a hell of a lot harder than the drill bits. Take it to a competent gunsmith, or someone who has one hell of a machine shop, that doesn't mind working on weapons, and have them drill it, just a smidge bigger than what would be necessary for a #8 metal screw. You'll have to either find th
  13. I'm sorry, but Arlington is reserved for heros and defenders of democracy. Not two bit, piss ant extremist terrorists. Especially the type of trash that intentionally attacks non-combatants. The dead one's body should be ground up, thrown on to a deep ocean trash barge and disposed of as the human debris it is. Should the other one be tried and thrown into a US prison, he should be given pine boards, a wood mallet and a number of nails, so he can build his own coffin. He should be forced to live with that in his cell, until he dies. As for the individual who was willing to give up her
  14. Take the bolt face off and guide rod off and using the "U" shaped end of the guide rod, rotate the firing pin exactly 180 degrees, until you clear the 75. But, if you can't go any further, you may need to think about getting a new bolt face, as that could be an indicater that there's a bit too much head space. That is rather dangerous on these weapons, as there isn't anywhere to really vent the gas, except back towards you. Just remember, since there is a little play in those parts, make sure you're holding it so that all the joints are good and tight, as if it were in the locked and loa
  15. I couldn't agree more. I'm getting really tired of the gun debate. There is no debate. Shall not be infringed. Fuck... More people are killed with a hammer in one year than a rifle of any kind in several years. This is all a takeover of some kind agenda and with the sheeple following the feel good bull shit, I don't see any way to stop it. 27 amendments and only one says "Shall not be infringed..." What's to interpret? It's pretty clear fucking cut to me.
