  1. I can respect adhering to the law as the punishments for this offense are stiff. However, if you Lone Star sell a short barrel + perm attached brake, the buyer of that weapon is under zero obligation to explain that to the ATF. If you have affixed the brake on to the end, its now a 18''+ inch barrel. I'm not advising that anyone brake (Freudian slip) the law, however, its not fair to say that even, someone who had it legally done, now has the burden to show he had it done legally. So you're going to stand there (figuratively) and argue with someone who does this for a living. Now
  2. The potential 10 years in Club Fed, might put a damper on things. Nothing gets people going like talking about shortening a barrel. Anyone have a report of one of these inadvertent SBS owners getting prosecuted? Anyways, yes, I will be cutting it down on my own. I've read the tutorials and have all the parts needed. However, I may only remove an inch off my 19'' barrel. FYI. The total was around $30 for the die, die holder and guide. You came in here asking if loctite was ok for permanently attaching a brake. Not meant as in insult, but that question leads me to beli
  3. I hope you know what you're doing if you plan to cut and thread the barrel yourself. I strongly recommend having a good gunsmith do it. And of course, if he's got half a brain he won't cut the barrel shorter than 18" and just give it back to you as an illegal sbs. That's prison time for him. He'll have to attach the brake himself so it's legal before he gives it back.

    sight 3

Its an illusion I guess. It looks dead straight in person. Possibly because the flash was on the right side of the lens.
  5. Red Jacket conversion from Atlantic Firearms (2007). Came with the folding stock. Forend and bolt handle from CSS, 12rd drums and poly choke from Saiga-12.com, Russian front sight and AFG from eGay, Galil pistol grip from don't remember. I just need the improved safety lever and I'll be happy (for now).

Almost done. Still need the improved safety lever.
  7. Got my Russian front sight today from eGay. http://www.ebay.com/...9#ht_500wt_1287 Took a few snaps to share. It lines up with the stock bead and exactly doubles the sight radius. The post is slightly wider than the stock bead as viewed from the shooting position. I'll have to try it out in various lighting conditions to see if I need to remove the stock bead.

  10. I ordered an AFG for mine. With the AFG the forward grip never has to absorb recoil. Your hand is in front of and below the grip. Recoil is back and up. With a light properly positioned on the left side rail it should be easy to operate with the thumb.
  11. Been off doing other things. I recently decided to finish upgrading my S12 and started looking for parts. Can't research the S12 without winding up back here. I hear ya, i would probably be worried about something like that also. FYI, Dinzags FSB uses two set screws, side by side, perpendicular to the barrel. I'm not sure if there is a FSB on the market that uses a single set screw. From reading the description of the original Ishmash sight it uses a single set screw. I've never examined one so I can't say for sure. The 2 set screws in the Dinzag are better. But I st
  12. I don't like the idea of a sight that is loose on the barrel with only a set screw holding it in place. A single set screw is a single point of failure.
  13. I came across this front sight on egay and decided to order one. It's supposed to be a Russian made sight and it looks like the Izhmash sight but it has clamping screws instead of the set screw. The set screw was the reason I didn't want an Izhmash sight to begin with. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Saiga-12-front-elevated-sights-/320870747407?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab5630d0f#ht_500wt_1287 I did some pixel measurements on the picture and took a micrometer to my S12 and it looks like it will work fine with the stock rear sight. I may have to remove the stock bead because it w
  14. I'm a do-it-yourself kind of guy but this seems half-ass to me. Given that: A ) I live in the desert and wouldn't trust the wax not to melt.... B ) The times I would want to use a frangible slug I would need absolute reliability.... C ) Factory frangible slugs will NOT melt, WILL cycle, and are less than a dollar each... It's not even a question. The factory load would be my choice.
  15. My 12 is a Red Jacket conversion (from '07, before they were TV stars). Maybe they tuned it up but it has always run flawlessly on any load.
  16. I just got my 2 12rd drums today (along with my poly choke/flash hider). They did come with fitting instructions but appear to fit well without modification. I hand cycled a full mag from each one with no issues. I'll wait to see how they work for real before voting.
  17. I have been looking at iron sight options for a few days and this is what I've come up with. What have I missed? CSS - Easy installation, fast target acquisition. http://store.carolin...SAIGA-12/Detail HK Style - Requires welding, not as quick as the CSS or Krebs, high "cool" factor. http://store.carolin...il?sfs=f385cfb0 Krebs Custom - Easy installation, fast target acquisition, AK look. http://store.carolin...il?sfs=395ebd26 Chaos rail mount - Requires rail (which must be drilled and tapped), will co-witness some rds, sight radius depends
  18. I love the way she tried the duck and weave, but the interviewer just came right back at her. "Do you know what a barrel shroud is, and why should we ban guns that have them?" "No I don't know what a barrel shroud is." Target! Cease Fire!
  19. Assuming this letter exists, exactly what does it prove? Everybody has the "full legal power to build and distribute" magazines. That doesn't require ATF permission, or even an FFL. And as it stands right now there are no federal restrictions on magazine capacity, so it seems that this letter gives him permission to do something he doesn't need permission to do. The question is whether or not the ATF will use the availability of these obviously LEGAL magazines to reclassify our beloved S12s. As I've said elsewhere the best thing we can do now is nothing. The worst thing we can do is p
  20. Well the genie is clearly out of the bottle, so I guess we wait and see. But the worst thing we can do now is to pester the ATF demanding a ruling. They're aware of the drums. If they choose to do nothing then that's EXACTLY what we want. Forcing them to rule can only be bad. I wish in all this fervor to build drums, that somebody would make a 10rd drum. Those 20rd behemoths just aren't practical.
