  1. the riveting tool I used was around 16 bucks from Big Flats rivet co. Looks like a big drift with a dimple in the end to perfectly buck a rivet against a suitable piece of steel. I also had to turn the drift down in a lathe to get a straight shot at riveting the trigger guard. My project ran just shy of 400 clams, but it is a accurate .223 It does take time to do it right but I am happy with it.
  2. grinding the hammer took care of the jamming and feed problems, also the plastic bulgarian 223 clips work fine if you grind the feed lips and the catch on the clip
  3. ok, Ak ken I get it now, the disconnect stops the full auto action. Mine works fine then except the hammer which drags the bottom of my bolt and binds causing jamming on the 2nd shot. The cure for this is like you said, grind the hammer [tapcos] to look like the saiga. And the reason why we just don't go back to the saiga hammer is for the US parts count issue, right?
  4. When mine was stock it cycled fine and did not dent cases, check the action with the cover off at full cock see if hammer is hooked at disconnect and the bolt is not binding on the hammer this is where my problem lies. good luck
  5. Ak ken, ok so the disconnect cathes the hammer first then when you pull the trigger the disconnect lets go of the hammer and the single hook takes over for the second stage then it fires, My gun never uses the disconnect so even if I push the hammer down with my thumb the disconnect does not have enough travel to catch the hammer. So I think there is a little grinding due on the disconnect base area. Thanks for helping , Tapco doesn't
  6. Ak Ken does your hammer in the cocked position have 2 edges caught , one by the single hook and one by the disconnect hook ? I think that is the way it should look at full cock
  7. On my saiga conversion I installed a Tapco G2 single hook trigger, my floorplate has the correct cutout for the singlehook. The first problem was the hammer was too wide at the pivot, I should have measured my old one first, there was nothing in the instructions about . I got this remedied now my disconnect doesn,t reach my hammer edge when it is cocked, the single hook does though and yes the disconnect spring is in place. Tapco does not know, the owner is on vacation. I have'nt taken it apart to compare my original saiga disconnect with the tapco yet.
  8. One point, I used new ak mag catch and trigger guard, mag is seated fine also. My problem is my Tapco G2 singlehook trigger. The disconnect is not catching the edge of the hammer and holding it down far enough for the bolt to cycle back freely without binding / riding the hammer. I have called tapco twice and the owner is on vac. this week, this problem probably can be remedied with using my old saiga disconnect if it will fit or grinding my tapco disconnect where it touches the trigger itself, I think. The hammer was too wide at the pivot on this tapco to fit also, had to grind and match
  9. I checked the gasport it was not dirty I guess I will reclean the action and piston but I think it is something else
  10. I have a saiga 223 with original clip, no feed ramp, single hook trigger and dragonov stock. Before I did the conversion it cycled shells fine, after the conversion , I get 1 or 2 shots then it has a shell jam over the clip with the bolt hitting the middle of the case puttig a dent in the case and ruinning it. The only thing I did in the clip area was grind the lowest side of the clip catch tab, not the top of the tab where it rests on the reciever. I did this because the mag catch was installed without grinding the part that would catch the clip, its a orignal ak catch and trigger guard.
  11. Apparently not all saigas have the butt trap tool kit mine didn't , or any tool for that matter
  12. You can buy a PSO 8x42 , thats 8 power 42mm obj., for $100 clams with the mount from centerfire systems inc. I like mine. Rangefinder built in scope, illuminated reticle, and sunshade, cover, removable rubber eyepiece, and carry bag. You can't beat it for the money...
  13. thanks for the info, just read another post on this site under saiga 308 where the guy gets 1'' groups with 165gr. sierra BTHPM bullets I didn't see any load mentioned though, I really like that Romak, I was hoping there was one out there that shot a tad better than 2moa, I sure can't swing a russian drag.
  14. Shiek I am a long fan of the 25-06, it covers varmint to elk, where I live woodchuck to deer. I have had some great friends that were one rifle farmers there was nothing safe groundhog size out to 5oo+ yds. I was made a believer and used to reload for these guys long before I owned one. I too have owned the 270 and many others but the versatility of the 25-06 and the accuracy outweigh the others imo. My son and I have 2 savage 25-06's, one 112BVSS w/26" bbl. and one 110FP tactical 24" bbl. Both are tricked out tuned triggers, cryoed, choate sniper stocks, 8-32x scopes. Very effective, very ac
