  1. In case people aren't aware of it and certainly not trying to jump on your case BUT computer components contain many nasty chemicals, heavy metals, mercury etc.. If you want to have kids without birth defects DO NOT SHOOT CIRCUIT BOARDS. They're bad for the environment too. Just go to the grocery store and buy the cheapest canned goods you can. They are cheap and fun to blast. Easy to clean up too with no risk to your health or the environment. It might seem like common sense but you never know.
  2. You could try Ammo Bearer in Iowa City - http://www.ammobearerltd.com/ I got one there for $199. You can also buy 30 Round Clips for about $35. They are preban AK mags converted for Saiga. I see the the 7.62 x 39mm all the time on Gunbroker for pretty reasonable prices.
  3. I thought it was pretty nice to have access to the hi-cap mags for $30 to go with my 7.62 for $199 at a small local shop. All in all a pretty good deal since CDNN raised their prices to $179. Now I just need to pick the scope. I'm thinking a 4X POSP but I'm still up in the air.
  4. You can contact the Ammo Bearer http://www.ammobearerltd.com/ to purchase pre-made 30 and 20 round Saiga mags made from pre-ban steel AK mags. The 30rd is $30 and the 20 round is more like $40. They add the feedramp and shave the Mag catch thingy (not sure what it's called).
  5. Ok I found the info I have been looking for and it doesn't look good. http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/user/wbardw...tf_letter88.txt A magazine manufactured prior to September 13, 1994, would not be a large capacity ammunition-feeding device as defined. You asked about altering such a magazine so that it could fit in another type of firearm. If the altered magazine could no longer function in the firearm for which it was originally designed, it is our opinion that a new magazine has been manufactured. The fact that the materials used to construct the new magazine were made pr
  6. Title 18 U.S.C. (United States Code), Chapter 44, section 922(w) provides that it shall be unlawful for a person to transfer or possess a large capacity ammunition feeding device except those which were lawfully possessed on or before September 13, 1994. I mean this seems pretty clear. It doesn't apply to pre-ban mags. Now I know there is a law out there about modifying a magazine to fit another weapon and that it must be useable in the original weapon it was intended, but I would believe that would only apply to post ban mags as well. Also if the hi cap mag is the only "assault
  7. Here is what I don't understand. I went to a well known gun shop here in town. Bought a Saiga and they have right there on the shelves pre-ban 30 round and 20 round mags labeled as Saiga 30 rd Mag and 20 rd. I have asked multiple times and they have said because it's a preban mag the ban doesn't apply. I cannot find the law that says that it's not legal. Until I see the law I have no reason to believe that they are wrong about them being legal. Also the owner of the shop http://www.ammobearerltd.com/ has been selling SKS and AK rifles for like 15 years and I would say seems very familiar with
  8. Yeah I'm waiting right now to get through the NICS check for my 7.62. I have been delayed twice. Pretty disappointing to have to wait a week to get a straight answer but I'm sure I have an FBI file for security clearances. I picked up some Wolf ammo any way at the Gander Mtn. The guy at the register sold me 200 rounds for 50 cents. I had picked up a topo book for Iowa and he went to put in the 5% discount for 10 boxes and apparently came up with a total of 50 cents. I didn't notice until later when I checked the receipt. I'm hoping that's a sign for good things to come. I know even if I do get
  9. I just wanted to comment that one of the ways in which shooters get a bad rap is by littering and exposing the environment to unnecessary pollutants. Computers would most definitely fall into this category. I'm all for blowing stuff up with your Saiga except when those items contain Mercury, Flame Retardants, Cadmium, etc.. In fact the process of cleaning up a computer you just blew the bajesus out of with your Saiga may increase your chances of getting cancer. So hey if it's pumpkins and bottles of pop I'm all for it, but I think we should display that shooters are environmentally smart by di
  10. Ok Here's more info I ran across in support of the local folks. Now this is just for the mag and not the implications of adding the mag to the gun. But I haven't found the specifics on adding the mag to the gun yet. (O7) Are replacement parts for grandfathered semiautomatic assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices subject to regulation under the law? No. Parts may be replaced in grandfathered semiautomatic assault weapons and grandfathered feeding devices without violating the law. However, if the frame or a receiver for a semiautomatic assault weapon is defecti
  11. Is an otherwise stock Saiga even have these laws apply to it since it doesn't have any of the Assault rifle characteristics? Title 18 U.S.C. (United States Code), Chapter 44, section 922(w) provides that it shall be unlawful for a person to transfer or possess a large capacity ammunition feeding device except those which were lawfully possessed on or before September 13, 1994. As defined in 18 U.S.C., Chapter 44, section 921(a)(31)(A), the term "large capacity ammunition feeding device" means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip or similar device manufactured after September 13, 199
  12. Ok this is stating that the law applies to post ban magazines so I would need to know why this wouldn't apply to the magazine I may purchase. Is it because the gun is post ban? Is it because the magazing is being modified? Is it because the mag will no longer work in the AK? In other words I need the specific legalese. Could this magazine be the ONE item I am permitted to have? Title 18 U.S.C. (United States Code), Chapter 44, section 922(w) provides that it shall be unlawful for a person to transfer or possess a large capacity ammunition feeding device except those which were lawful
  13. Since this would be the correct thread to post this in, I'll do so here. Ok my local gun shop sells 20 and 30 rd pre-ban ak clips modified to be used in Saiga 7.62 x 39. They claim this is perfectly legal and appear to be pretty savvy with the laws. They claim because it's pre-ban it's not an issue. Can someone please point me to the exact law that states that this would not be a legal item to have with my Saiga? Your assistance is greatly appreciated as I really want a 30 rd mag but don't feel like getting busted for someone else's ignorance.

  15. I'm completely baffled about whether to get the .308 or the 7.62. I thought about about a Cetme as well but it is a crap shoot and a local shop has a nice old one with the flash hider (I think that's what it is). That ones $400 and that's too steep. It also fits the HK addons but pressed steel not cast? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm no gun expert. I have just been wanting to get a decent all around but bad-arse looking rifle. The 7.62X39 Saiga has cheap ammo and it will be $60 cheaper via the local route but not quite as accurate. Is the .308 that much more accurate? I wouldn't mind hunting de
