  1. I'm one of the lucky one's having bought a few Saiga's before the ban. But I did miss deals on 2 as the ban hit. I saved the barrel ends caps after I cut them off so I'll have to do a photo ASAP. For $ the rear converted Saiga was the best bang for the $. Some were selling in the last year for $565. delivered at Cheaper Than Dirt. Then just before the ban these went for $535. delivered and I ordered one but they sold out & I missed out. Now the unconverted Sport model are $600. and up so it's time to look for used one's.
  2. Dollar for dollar you can't beat the Tapco slab sided mags and they look good also. No snob appeal but thye work and have tested better than other poly mags for abuse.
  3. Having worked in the Tool & Die industry for over 35 years I have seen many CNC vertical, horizontal , machining centers and turning centers at work. The rate at which these expensive machines can spit out parts is truly amazing. I've seen these CNC's run unattended over night with no issues. The higher the volume the lower the costs per part of course. The hardest AK parts to produce would be the bolt carrier and bolt. All the rest is easy with the right machining centers, fixtures, and heat treat. How these companies tackle these issues will determine end costs. I suspect our governm
  4. I have a nice collection of muzzle brakes never having paid more than $50. for any of them. Best cheap and light brake as supported by tests on You Tube the Tapco slant brake, under $20. , very light and short. Best muzzle control the Shark brake, usually under $35. on E Bay. If the difference between a $20. brake and a $100. one is 1 to 3% it's a waste in my book to pay the extra $, buy more ammo. Best brake from the experts the SRVV Jet Russian brake for $85. + shipping at Circle 10 AK. Just my 2 cents.
  5. For hog killing I use Remington soft nose rounds for $23. per 20. Drops them but good. I've hear the hollow point Ruskie ammo doesn't open up on impact ? So I bought 200 rds. of Wolf soft point it's the same price so why not ?
  6. Century fixed my FTF issue on my new 5.45 Saiga by chamfering the chamber entrance and filing the mag catch.
  7. I've done 5 Saiga muzzle threading jobs myself and to answer your question about how far back to cut I recommend 5/8. The thread cutting die has a tapered lead on it so you have to factor that in. You don't want the muzzle brake hanging on at the end of the barrel. I've also learned that the tube cutter can't cut back far enough and have had to use a Dremel cut off disc. Note on photo I hadn't as yet painted the brake to match.
  8. March 2014 7n6 imports banned without warning. July 2014 Russian firearms imports banned without warning. If you think this is all by chance guess again? I expect all Russia ammo will be next to be banned from import without warning and soon. Then the rest of Combloc surplus items. The Liberal retards are over joyed with these bans and eager for more ! Time to ammo up if you haven't already done so. The times are a changing sadly !
  9. Bought from Cheaper than Dirt new and is my fifth Saiga. Bolt would hang up about 1/4" from closing. I deburred all moving part and no change. Finally took to local gun smith and no go gauge hangs up. I called Century and they have sent me a UPS pick up return label. Century seems more than willing to resolve this issue. Rifle is still at gun smith so it will take a few days to get this shipped. I'll post developments here.
  10. Smith Vortex is the best IF you can find them in 14-1 LH MM. I didn't realize what a flame thrower the std. AK74 is until I shot at a indoor range, whoa !
  11. I see that Apex Gun Parts is carrying these in a different style now in 14 x1 MM LH for $50. The 14x1 models do away with the large dia. at the threaded end. I wanted a Smith Vortex but everyone is sold out except the high price dealers.
  12. Apex Gun Parts I tried to cancel this post but can't figure out how to do that ??
  13. CAA adjustable stock goes out to 12 5/8 with out added recoil pad.
  14. Per my SG Ammo invoices: 5.45 x 39......... 1080 rds spam can 31 lb. 7.62 x39 ........500 rds. 1/2 case 20 lb.
  15. GREAT job ! Welcome to the Saiga "sickness". Some tips follow. On one of my conversions I used a CAA adj. stock and installed the CAA adj. cheek piece. CAA also makes a riser for the Magpul stock that snaps right on. Amazon had them and I think CSS does also about $20. And this riser make one heck of a difference when using a Red Dot. CAA stock w/riser in place. Adjust foreword/rearward and up and down. Weight penalty sad to say.. Another option is the RPB Industries triangle poly stock about 8 oz. [ $35. ] then add water pipe foam covering to raise cheek weld. Not shown w/ foam.
  16. Excellent, thank you. It seems AK brAKES ARE EVERYWHERE BUT FLASH HIDERS THAT REALLY WORK ARE VERY RARE.
  17. Example using a CNN stock w/riser.
  18. I found out the hard way that losing cheek weld affects accuracy. Get the optic low as you can and a butt stock riser.
  19. Just recently been to the indoor range and shot with the ZZ. It's a flame thrower in dim light conditions. So I ordered a few flash hiders and will report on that.
  20. The WW are good looking rifles but there have been way to many problems. My has been sent back for the second time. You may get lucky or you may not ?
  21. Seems as of these days there isn't really a good substitute for 7n6 matching it in performance and price. The GT and RAS both leave my rifle very dirty unlike the 7.62 GT which has very little residue. Thus this issue of expensive ammo , low fps, and excess fouling needs to be addressed.
  22. The Red Army Std, clocks at 2300 fps which is less than the 7.62.
  23. The specs I saw on the RAS 5.45 were sad. It may have been a misprint but 2300 fps is sickly.
  24. I really like the tactical look and that is the wave of what's coming to AK's. What brand butt stk. is this ?
  25. I'm all for a $400 -$450 Sportster delivered ! Fienstein is pushing a bill to ban importation of all military weapons, kits, and accessorizes AGAIN. But In a election year I expect it to die until after the elections. But she has power and a big following of well heeled backers, yah never know like the 7N6 ban overnight w/no warning. Went to buy another rear converted Saiga in March from CFS but they sold out fast. Atlantic was sold out also but Classic had them so I paid the $600. price.
