So I bought a used set of furniture that came with the gas tube in the UHG. I already have one and planned on selling it or keeping it as a spare for a future project. Upon after further inspection of the gas tube I am unsure. My current conversion is my first and when I ground my gas tube to fit, it fit much tighter than the one that came in the UHG. When the gas tube release lever is down it is tight with no movement, just some play back and forth when the lever is up. Is this normal and acceptable? What issues could arise as a result of excessive play?

Was curious what to do with the parts I took out of my conversion and if there is any use or need for them (hand guard, stock, gas tube)? What did you guys do with them?

So I am finally going to order my parts from CSS for my conversion. Besides the basic parts I need to order (trigger kit, lower hand guard retainer bracket, bullet guide), is there anything else you guys would recommend? For example, parts I could be forgetting or better yet parts that would increase rifle performance. For what it is worth, I am going to make the rifle into more of a traditional Ak with wood furniture. Which lower hand guard retainer would you recommend? Thanks in advance

Yes it did need fitting. Took off about 2/16" on the receiver end, about 1/32" on each side of that, and beveled the top to allow the hanguard latch to rotate. A touch of cold bluing to protect the bare steel an GtG. Glad I re-read my post and much thanks for the heads up. If I didn't stumble upon this I would have been pulling my hair out trying get the tube in. I finally just got started messing with my conversion and thanks to your info I got my AKM gas tube to fit pretty damn good. I filed it until I got a pretty tight fit and bingo. Thanks again fellas for the heads up....mu

If I was looking for a job I would use it. I know a couple of people who have had some good luck in bettering their careers through it. In this day and age I would utilize everything to better myself.
