  1. I have been slowly working on a adaption to ar15 mags. I dont plan on cutting the trunion as much as you did. just enough to bring the front of the ar15 mag up to feed right. the width is perfect for ar15 alone in the front if I were you I would have cut the adapter not the trunion. working on making a permament adapter though thats fixed into position. taking a while with cad and cnc.
  2. they are not wood just look like it. fiberglass with metal reinforcements. fits the saiga magwell good. though requires mods to work with 223. needs feedramp. is little more hassle than 7.62x39 mod.
  3. press is your best chance. have heard mixed results. some had access to press and it wouldnt budge they end up cutting the bottom of the whole FSB and using a wedge to break it in half on the bottom. another guy got it off with press though didnt post any other details just press could of done an extra step. tried the hammer myself. didnt try oil or heating anything. could help though doubt it will budge.
  4. I did that too. I was comparing a AK74 mag with robarm follower and a ar15 mag though ar15 mag doesnt fit in all the way yet can tilt the rear of the mag. when finished I wont have the mag very high in the well the top will not contact the rail like ak74 or stock saiga mag. will use my 223ak feedramp and try and get the same feed geometry the stock mag has and the ak74 with robarm follower. the catch arm will sit below the receiver though only by 3-4mm. on other side the button will be just underneath the receiver. you could probably raise it and go without a 223ak feedramp but you
  5. would be wary if parts not marked US and claimed to be US made. all parts I have bought that make the claim have USA on the side.
  6. find a retainer that works then cut the top bend it open enough to slide over the barrel and gas block once you get where it needs to be you take a punch and hammer and get the bends back together then you run a drill through the pin hole and then tap it then install handguard and insert bolt into the pin hole its been described numerous times here. besides that will cost your $100 unless you have a 12 ton press. got the press you use a plate with holes for the front sight block and gas block you press both of them off and then install the handguard retainer. then press the gas block back
  7. I thought bout that for minute but it wouldnt line up with the AK trigger. like my FAL pistol grip but also like the AR15. its a fun project to try. my hands bit sore from filing out the magwell and fitting the magazine. would of had pics earlier but camera batteries died. here it is, I already cut the bolt catch lugs off and ground them down. bulgde on the left has to go have it cut up little another pic another pic bottom of magwell. your average Ar15 receiver has smoothed edges at corners and is finished this is not finished and ready to take magazines. you have to do
  8. yes thats anubis from stg1. getting the magwell from www.tanneryshop.com but they are not the only place to get it. www.ar15plus.com www.ktordnance.com http://shadetreearmory.com/catalog http://www.southern.trading.freehomepage.com http://www.cncgunsmithing.com/ http://www.footpounds.com/ http://www.ar15tools.com/index.htm william at tannery is cutting a 80% in half and sending the magwell section. $45 shipped. in fact just got my piece today and began working on it. the magwell requires work and fitting. inside the magwell have to file down 4 corners inside an
  9. not interested in new handguard. then again if you gave more details could change my mind. like the full length saiga handguard though prefer some vents. been thinking of playing with a AR15 midlength or standard handguard see if I cannot make some sort of Franken AK/AR. then again I am working on that already with ar15 magwell and saiga 223. be nice if someone made a 2 part handguard retainer that you bolt on to the barrel forget how many people we had come and post they have one coming out. if only I had a cnc mill and could stand installing windows on a pc to use cad/cnc programs.
  10. all I used was a dremel, file and handdrill for fire controll group conversion, hammer and pin punch. good conversion website http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/ drill out two pins on right side of the receiver that holds the extra trip and trigger. remove the plate from the bottom used a dremel with cutoff disk to grind down rivets. pin punch comes in handy for punching ground down rivets. drill also helps want some nice drill bits too use oil keep heat down. or you can spend hundreds and have it converted professionally. if your not good with tools, shaky hands whatever
  11. I dont know but if you find out please post. I am interested also.
  12. no you dont need a feedramp if you mod every magazine with metal bit. imo unless you weld the mag I would not trust jbweld or epoxies to hold. its easier to put in 1 feedramp than to mod every magazine you may want to use. its possible in 7.62x39 rifle to have a feedramp installed and use stock saiga mags.
  13. nice tool to have for this besides the dremel is reciprocating saw. can get a nice ryobi for $50 cordless or you can get a cheap yet working one from harbor freight corded $25. easier to start with bigger piece and cut down to fit. like the cordless myself could be used in a emergency or accident.
  14. nice job. what is duracoat exactly is it more of a paint or epoxy type finish? tried some brownells teflon/moly spray can sucks. but the finish was absolutely tough. love the park/overcoat type method. vjor just curious what medium did you use to blast? have had great results with glass beads forget what size havent toyed with the cabinet for while.
